What do y'all think of Michelle's upcoming trip to China with her daughters

Now I'm curious where the "you should be ashamed of yourself" - poster from below is!

Keeping not only the first lady and her mother but the KIDS in China sounds good to you? Lovely.

Yes, it does. She can't spend any more of our money then - n/m

Who's paying for this trip? I wonder also if they're all using separate airplanes like B.O. and the Mrs. did in Hawaii. Maybe she's going there to teach them how to grow a garden or to teach them about childhood obesity. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Guess-- it's US, who else? She thinks she is Marie Antoinette and royalty - n/m

Hopefully it will give the Obama girls something to think about and make them more compassionate toward people, if not Michelle herself. We traveled there recently and absolutely loved the people we came into contact with. They are some of the most hospitable people I have ever met. They usually go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. However, there are a lot of things in China that aren't so great. For one thing, there is so much poverty. Their healthcare system is atrocious (pay up front before treatment, which is one reason why so many babies/children are abandoned...there are a lot of birth defects and the parents are unable to pay for the treatment the child needs). Plus you have the whole 1-child policy (which was recently upgraded to 2 for certain people), but forced abortions, forced sterilizations, huge fines, etc. Most of the people have poor nutrition, water that you can't drink without getting sick, some of the worst air pollution in the world, and just generally poor living conditions. We had our hearts broken by what we saw there and came back totally grateful for what we have here in the US. Oh, and totally HATED the squatty potties and tried to find the Western toilets wherever we went, but some places didn't have them. That's just my 2 cents, though.

What makes you think the Obama girls are not - compassionate? nm

I think everyone has room to be more compassionate... - Tink

I know our children have developed a whole lot more compassion toward people and circumstances based on what we have been through in our lives than most of the kids they know and certainly more than if we hadn't gone through things. It makes a difference to see people's problems with your own eyes.
Yes I agree, but I guess I misinterpreted your - statement.

It seemed to me that you were saying they were not compassionate kids. I didn't realize you were talking about everyone in general.
=) I've never been the best with words, but you got it...in general - nm - Tink

I know exactly how that is. Sorry I misunderstood. - :)

I do know what you are talking about though, to see people living in poverty. Years ago I traveled to India and had an extreme culture shock when I saw how people lived. I lived in a little boat and just getting from there to the marketplace, it was heartbreaking (and very disconcerting) to see children begging for coins and tugging at my clothes. You give some but can't give it all away. Then I got sick from the food and water and rehabilitated in England for a long time before I got better (I had a parasite).

Anyway, it was an eye-opening experience, for sure.
I think your post was excellent and well written. - sm

And getting more compassion is always a good thing. I remember Princess Diana taking her sons to AIDS clinics, etc., to teach them about having compassion for the less fortunate. Although M.O. is NO Princess Diana, hopefully her daughters will learn a valuable lesson. I just hope this won't be like Michelle's other vacations filled with lavish in-your-face spending and just general excess at the American taxpayers' expense.
Well, that makes two of us, then. - nm

I have absolutely no respect for either of the Obamas and doubt they are capable of learning to be compassionate. However, unfortunately, your experience in China is the same shared by my closest friend. She adopted a little girl four years ago from China and she said it was heartbreaking seeing so much poverty. Thankfully my friend was able to give a beautiful little girl a good home.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1). For there are many rebellious people, mere talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group. (Titus 1:10). and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. (2 Peter 2:3). Leave them; they are blind guides. If a blind man leads a ...

DaughtersApr 16, 2017
my daughter forgot my birthday so I sent her an e-mail telling her i was disappointed and she sent me an e-mail back telling me how she felt - that I neglected her when she was child, I was a failure as a mother, and that I never made her or my grandchildren a priority.  How am I supposed to feel after that?  My heart is just broken.  Please pray for me; I can't feel anything but hurt and unloved. ...

Teenage Daughters (long)Jul 17, 2011
My 13 year old stole some Barbies from my cousin's daughter.  Nothing big, but was special to the other girl and she was very upset.  In my heart I knew she did it as soon as I heard but she lied to me multiple times, lied to her my cousin and her daughter and then finally when my cousin drove across town to my house to confront her in person, she said she had thrown them away in the trash can at the restaurant we were at when I confronted her the first time.  Went back and m ...

Trump's Daughters Say He Always InspiresApr 13, 2016
Guess so since apparently he has more than a fixation on at least one of them: Trump was asked how he would feel if Ivanka posed for Playboy. “It would be really disappointing — not really — but it would depend on what’s inside the magazine. I don’t think Ivanka would do that, although she does have a very nice figure. I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.” Earlier in 2003 on The Howard Stern Show, Donald Trump was also bragging about his dau ...

Nyc TripSep 11, 2011
I am planning a day trip to NYC on Saturday, Nov 5th.  I have been to NYC many times, mainly with my girlfriends to shop and eat.  This year, I would like to take my family, which includes my husband and 3 sons - ages 9 through 14.  I'm looking for suggestions as to what to do and see, as I know they would not enjoy shopping the entire day.  I had hoped to see the Rockettes, but their show doesn't start until the following Saturday and there's no way to resche ...

My Kids Just Left For A TripAug 01, 2014
Mind you, they are 22 and 25.  They are driving from upstate NY to Long Island to stay with friends and see a concert.  Now, each of them has been gone on their own, my son's been to the other end of the country on both a plane and train.  I think my problem with this trip is that they're together in his car.  I have these visions of a crash and losing both of them at the same time.   I know - silly, right?  Yes, I know it.  But a mom worries.   ...

Changing Clothes In School For A Trip May 25, 2010

I Noticed No One Saying Anything About Beyonce And Jay-Z's Trip To CubaApr 09, 2013
It was their 5th wedding anniversary and they went to Cuba, which is against the law; but, of course, they got away with breaking the law. According to the Treasury Dept. spokesperson, they were on a "cultural exchange." The story lacked a named source, and the $200 million claim was credited to "a top official of the Maharashtra Government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit." The claim quickly gained traction on the right, thanks in part to a lin ...

Are We China?Jul 02, 2016
This is meant very seriously... I was in a store the other day called "5-Below" - everything in there between 1 to 5 dollars.  Okay.  The smell right away was that plasticy skunky smell as soon as you walk in.  Okay.  They sure did have tons of stuff very cheap, and very cheaply made.  Of course, I can go into Sears and see the same quality really; shirts as thin as tissue paper, funky smells, a size 2x is really the old 'large' to save on material, etc.   ...

Sarah Palin's Hunting Trip To Feed Her Family Cost $42,400 Or $141.33 Per Lb. Of CaribouDec 07, 2010
When Sarah Palin took us on a hunting/camping trip with her dad Chuck Heath on the latest episode of Sarah Palin's Alaska, she said hunting was necessary to "fill her freezer!"  Hunting for caribou means “food on the table and in the freezer for a lot of Alaskans,” the former Govenor extolled. She opened her freezer to let us see how the Palin meat pantry was getting bare. “For many people in remote areas of Alaska, there’s no grocery store nearby, we just g ...

I Thought It Would Be China, (Romney's Olympics)Jul 16, 2012
I just knew Romney had outsourced the 2002 Olympic uniforms, but I was surprised to learn it was to Burma/Mayanmar. Since my last question didn't fly well with a few (perhaps because it hit to close to home in our chosen career field), here's a new one I'd like to try to understand. The same career politicians responsible for the recent revival of "communism" fears are the exact same names who pushed for us to outsource overseas from 2004-2008, mostly to communist China, though we were already in tremendous debt to them. And this doesn't this seem odd to you? To me, that goes stri ...
