sister wives

Has anyone watched that new show on TLC, Sister Wives?  I had stated I would never watch something like that, but then were talking about it on the news in the middle of the night one night and I was curious.  I have watched the first two weeks and just don't get it.  My husband is going to watch it with me because I asked him to, as I want a male point of view of the show.  I am sure he will think it is crazy, but I am curious.  I just do not understand how you can share your husband with someone.  I would be very jealous and it would be so emotionally upsetting to me, I do not think I could deal with it.  I can not image, even if I was raised that way, I would participate in it.  I understands that they are all intimate separately but isn't that what you have girlfriends for, to go out shopping with and help each other out watching each other's kids?  And maybe I am missing something, but isn't this illegal?  Why on earth would TLC want to show this?  Although I have watched two weeks out of curiosity after the news piece, I can not image that I will watch more.  Is it just me, am I too 'sheltered' or are other people just as confused I am?

Since it seems they fashion their lifestyle after biblical patriarchs and their multiple wives, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, etc., I guess they try to come to terms with the natural jealousy that any woman would have for her husband. Even in the Bible there was vehement jealousy between Sarah and Hagar as well as Leah and Rachel. Samuel's mother was miserable during the time the other wives were fertile and had children and she could not. I am not knocking their lifestyle, but it does seem heartbreaking, harsh and unfair in my opinion.

Heck, count me in. I could use a wife or 2. - nm

I've watched and thought it would be great, except for all the kids. I would love to sleep in my bed alone and have someone else wash my husband's dirty shorts, and still have the advantage of his paycheck.

I've also thought the same thing about being a lesbian. It would be great except for the sex. Have someone fun to hang out with, someone to talk to who actually might listen.

Do I sound like an old married woman? LOL. Men, ugggg.
I must say, having had one same sex encounter way back in the day, - it was not bad. Like making love SM

Back in the days of all that fun experimenting stuff! I wouldn't mind having a fun, cute, sexy sister-wife! My husband wouldn't mind either! Could he possibly handle 2 of us with PMS!!!

It is illegal and the authorities are considering charges. - sm

I would NEVER be involved in such a relationship. Those women ARE experiencing feelings of jealousy and lack of attention. There were quite a few tears on last night's episode and more to come from previews. Even some confrontations.

When I saw the pitch for it, they all spoke as if there were no jealousy - just all love and acceptance. Now, however, we are seeing that there really are those issues.

My biggest concern is for those poor children. While I think these children are being loved, taken care of physically, emotionally and financially, and he is doing a great job with that, it is still not an appropriate environment to raise children. Some of their teen girls have already stated that they do NOT want to live like this in their own relationships. Even the teenagers can sense it is inappropriate.

When I hear those wives talking about feeling hurt, jealous, "like I lost my best friend" and "I'm not getting enough time with him," etc., it makes my heart just hurt for them.

He seems very charismatic in personality and concerned but I'm not convinced he is in love with all of his wives. I think he needs that "spark" of a new girlfriend and new excitement. Then, once they become a wife and things settle down, then he tends to need to look again.

Dangerous charmer, he is. LOL

It's only illegal really.. sm - Gigi

if he legally married more than 1 of the women. In most plural marriages, the first wife is usually the only one the man is married to and the rest are called wives but not legally so. I did see somewhere that someone was looking into charges for some reason, but I'm not sure the reason, unless he has more than 1 marriage certificate. If not, basically it's just a bunch of women and children living with a man and his 1 wife, so nothing legally wrong with that.

I agree that I feel sorry for the children; they didn't ask to be brought into that situation and it's unfair to them, but that's just me.

I'm sure that show, which is truly fiction, uses a lot of literary license - but I just love those characters!!

I haven't seen the show, but have watched advertisements. I could not share my husband. Do they seem sincere with the sharing or do you think they are burying hard feelings?

to another. If they were raised in that culture, then that is what they know and probably feel more comfortable with you than you would believe. It is just like cultures in other countries, we may not approve or feel comfortable with it, but that is what they know, be it right or wrong in another's eyes.

Clearing up the confusion - My take on it

I actually have often thought it would work out better for a woman to have multiple husbands ... one who is sensitive, a handy one, etc. since I and many other women have been known to say: "If I could just take the good things from several men and put them together." Plus women could have more sex in one night than a man (if it came down to that). ;>)

Good point - Never found him

I can't count the number of times I have said the same thing to my friends and family. I dated lots of men, and if I could have combined all the decent, good things I would have had a good lifetime partner. I wasn't looking for a perfect person, just one with integrity and someone I could count on.

I would want a special man for your last sentence. One that - knows his way around down there. NM

On Bin Laden's Wives, What Should Happen To Them?May 07, 2011
These women had no say in where they were or who they were with, did they? I think I read that the youngest wife was 'gifted' to him. I hope they are treated well. I also hope they give out some good information, if they know anything. Also, what appeared to be his will admonished his wives not to remarry. So he wants to control them even in death. I can not believe how sad tonight's episode was!  I have watched shows and say that is really sad, but I actually had tears running down my face tonight.  I have two sons, both ready to turn 18 and 21 in May.  I can not even image what it would be like to lose one of them.  Thank God both are safe and at home.  My heart goes out to all that have loved one in the Service and especially those who have lost ones in the Service.  It is so sad that this world has to ...

Unemployed Men Are More Likely To Abuse Their WivesFeb 23, 2010
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pushed for a $15 billion jobs bill Monday by suggesting that unemployed men are more likely to abuse their wives. “Men when they're out of work tend to become abusive,” Reid said as he argued in favor of a cloture vote on the jobs bill. “I met with some people while I was home dealing with domestic abuse. It has gotten out of hand. Why? Men don't have jobs. Women don't have jobs either, but women aren’t abusive, most of the ...

I used to watch Tami on the MTV series Real World, and she has not changed, but gotten even worse. She is incredibly mean and scary and I was worried for Kesha when they were having that "talk." Tami is extremely violent, delusional, paranoid and needs to be on medications in addition to her therapy. She does not need to get physical nor lash out at people like that. She just sees blood with Kesha and I do not understand that mentality. She has glued herself to Evelyn, who has no class eith ...

Talked About This Before With SisterFeb 03, 2016
I have come to the decision finally to take the advice of every therapist I have ever seen. I am breaking ties with my family to completely avoid my sister. She has mental issues, is mean, nasty and narcissistic. She flew all over me again today, and once again is refusing to speak to me. She told me off with text messages. How convenient. She refuses to let me air my feelings to her on the phone. I know this would be impossible anyway. I have joined a group at a church I attend called t ...

Sister And Mother ProblemsDec 27, 2011
I am at a complete loss as to how to handle this situation.  My mother and sister have done this before and I pretty much just let it go, but they have done it again.  I have an 11-yo daughter who loves to see her grandma and her aunt.  My sister has 2 smaller children that my daughter also loves to see and play with.  My sister seems bent on telling my daughter things I did before she was born.  Nothing God awful- like when my much older child was younger, I would go ou ...

Since We Were Kids, My Sister Has Been Ratting Me Out To Mom!Jul 11, 2011
As an adult, she hasn't changed that much.  Always looking for something to tell mom about me or just plain gossip about me to mom and anyone else who will isten.  As a young adult, when I still had the energy to have a fiery temper, I would fight with her.  After I had my second child, I decided to just not pay attention to her anymore and just ignore her BS.  Our kids are now teenagers and still my sister plays her games.  Today I finally blew like Mount St. Helen ...

I would really appreciate some advice here because I just don't know what I am supposed to do.   With the exception of my mother's funeral, I have not seen my step-sister in almost 40 years.  She and her mother had moved to a different state several years before I moved out from home and to a yet different state when I turned 18.  When we each came home to visit, we never came at the same time, thus never saw each other.  She is younger than me and I remember h ...

Abusive Sister (an Update)Apr 04, 2015
I posted on the Prayer Board some days ago about my relationship with my sister. Just wanted to add that after she learned from her daughter that I would not be attending Easter dinner with them (obviously), I got a text from my sister, who got her rear end up in the air over absolutely nothing and was refusing to speak to me for a month again. She no doubt feels guilty (if that, indeed is possible for her.) Her text read: I am sorry we do not get along. I hope you have a nice Easter. I wi ...

Sister In Law Refusing To Feed Baby Solids Until 6 MonthsAug 17, 2014
obviously this is her first baby.  She has been reading all of the articles and message boards/blogs where people breastfeed exclusively until 6 months of age.  Well this is fine and dandy, when she mentioned her intentions early on in her pregnancy I didn't really care, it's not my kid and none of my business.  However I noticed a few days ago my nearly 5 month old niece was excessively smacking her lips at a family dinner and screamed out a few times while watching us ...
