been about accountability. I mean, the Secretary of the Treaasury, who oversees the IRS, was one himself. I suppose their idea was put a crook in to catch crooks? Looks more like overlook crooks to me.

That is what happens when you institute huge programs (like the stimulus) with zero oversight. Accountability is a good thing, and the buck stops at the Oval Office. Zero leadership coming from there, as far as I can see. He has the job and he needs to DO the job...for the country.

Republicans in Congress refused to hire more IRS agents to take care of tax cheaters - Perspective

[ In Reply To ..]
All we need to do is hire more of those IRS agents to stop this kind of tax fraud and abuse. For every $1 paid out to IRS agents, they bring in $10.

That is a good investment. The Republicans are against it.

Come ON. Seriously?? A congressional - committee could

[ In Reply To ..]
find these tax cheats who got stimulus funds but the IRS agents we ALREADY HAVE couldn't? You cannot possibly buy that story. Could it have anything to do with the agents we do have...their boss cheated on his taxes and still holds his position as Treasury Secretary by the way?

Sorry...not buying that this is the Republicans' fault. Obama had control of both houses of Congress when he took office. Why didn't they hire more agents THEN?

This argument doesn't hold water. All it says is the stock answer for Democrats: "Don't look at us. It's all the Republicans' fault."

There aren't enough IRS agents to investigate all of the abuse - nm

Don't you think recipients of stimulus funds - should have been a PRIORITY?

I DO.

Uh...no. Congressional committee did it FOR - them. Money already
[ In Reply To ..]
spent. Obama Admin rewarded bad behavior by giving stimulus money to ogranizations and companies who owed millions in back taxes.

But I know you will find a way to rationalize that..."they didn't have enough IRS agents to investigate it." Really? Then why didn't Obama hire some more when he had control of both houses of congress? Why didn't he give the order to his tax cheat Treasury Secretary to make sure stimulus recipients were up on their taxes?
Because that would have been real worrkkkk, responsibleeee....and to harrddddd.
Who was on that Congressional committee? - and also

The public only knows what it has been spoonfed by the powers that be via major media outlets. That is what they WANT you to believe. What you NEED to know is withheld. Yet that never stops the big-mouth "experts" who consume and memorize the propaganda from opining on every subject under the sun as though they KNOW what they're talking about.

Baloney! What a pathetic comeback. Thats like saying we need - more police instead of blaming the criminals.

[ In Reply To ..]
Democrats give some unbelievable answers. Guess you will do anything to defend Obama. Its really kind of pathetic.

I don't get it - no1joe

[ In Reply To ..]
When there is more crime, you do need more police... that combined with addressing the socioeconomic issues that contribute to crime. Blaming or not blaming the criminals doesn't help put them in jail or stop the crime from happening in the first place. Therefore, common sense tells me that if there is an increased number of tax cheats, having more IRS agents to deal with it is not such an unbelievable answer. That combined with the $1:$10 factor makes it a very viable answer. Don't see any baloney here.
I agree with no1joe about this. The $1:$10 factor speaks volumes! - No baloney here either
[ In Reply To ..]
Common sense. Bring in that tax revenue and our deficit will go down. I don't know why Republicans are against collecting taxes from criminals who are cheating. That's probably a good topic for another thread.
Then why, pray tell, did Obama not hire more - IRS agents when he had
[ In Reply To ..]
control of both houses of Congress and it wouldn't matter what the Republicans thought?

I think we all know the answer to that one.
What, pray tell, does that have to do - no1joe
[ In Reply To ..]
with the above post? The post that accused someone of providing baloney and a pathetic comeback and in the same breath stated that it doesn't make sense to hire more police to combat crime... but rather blaming the criminals as a solution.

If you want to know why Obama didn't hire more IRS agents, Google.

Regardless of who does it, hiring more IRS agents would most likely be an effective way to deal with the problem.

I have a feeling that you're taking issue with the fact that I didn't blast Obama for one reason or another. If you want to read Obama-blasting posts, there are plenty of them on here, or you can again Google.

What in the world? If we have more criminals, we do need more police - What does that have to do with not blaming crimina

[ In Reply To ..]
What in the world? Yes, if you have many criminals, you probably do need to hire more police. I have no idea what that has to do with "instead of blaming the criminals." In the same way, if you have people involved in fraud and tax abuse, you hire more IRS agents if you have to in order to catch them and prosecute them. If you are saying that's 'blaming' the IRS agents, or were you saying it would be blaming the ...I have no idea what your point was.

Mine is, if we have people out there breaking the law, get the enforcement officers, IRS agents, and whatever it takes to go find them, stop them, and put them in prison. Blame the ...what?

this says to me that the corporate interests hold such power over the country and their roots are so thick and deep that government is losing its ability to rein in abuse. This is not a political party issue, its a democracy issue.

If they don't have enough agents to do the work, that's going to keep happening - Simple Solution

[ In Reply To ..]
I truly believe it would help if they start going after fraud, abuse, and tax avoiders, both rich and small. We'll solve a lot of our revenue problems, especially if we start at the top. LOL.

Yes, with the Treasury Secretary. Let's start - there. nm

Of late I see an alarming increase is welfare-bashing "journalism."  I see it in my local news, they actually try to chase around the food stamp "cheats" and catch them out. Lazy journalism, IMHO. Why don't you expose the real cheats, the white collar criminals whose fraud is really hurting the system and this country? Food Stamp Recipients More Likely To Be Obese, Study FindsWASHINGTON -- Food stamp recipients are more likely to be obese than the general population, according to new research from the federal government.  Most Americans are heavier than they should be, of course, but a U.S. Department of Agriculture study delving into National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data from 2007 through 2010 found Americans on food stamps were more likely to be obese than other groups -- including ...

Obama Stimulus Funds Went To California Feb 20, 2017
The 2009 stimulus package funded millions of dollars for safety improvements for a dam in California that was in “good shape,” but not to the Oroville Dam that is now on the verge of a spillway crisis. Nearly 200,000 residents north of Sacramento were ordered to evacuate after fears that erosion would cause the emergency spillway to fail, which would lead to “catastrophic flooding“ from a 30-foot wall of water. Despite more than a decade of warnings about Oroville, there is no publ ...

Judging Stimulus By Job Data Reveals SuccessFeb 17, 2010
Imagine if, one year ago, Congress had passed a stimulus bill that really worked. Let’s say this bill had started spending money within a matter of weeks and had rapidly helped the economy. Let’s also imagine it was large enough to have had a huge impact on jobs — employing something like two million people who would otherwise be unemployed right now. If that had happened, what would the economy look like today? Well, it would look almost exactly as it does now. Because thos ...
