Shouldn't welfare recipients provide urine samples for their checks if we have to provide one t

Does anyone else have to provide blood work EVERY year to stay on your MTSOs health insurance?

;

Oops - should be - if I have to provide one to earn it for them. - nm

Doesn't really matter to me but...... - goose and gander

Don't want to get too political here, but politicians say that anyone receiving government assistance (tax payer funds) should be subjected to urine testing. Who do they think pay their salaries? What's good for the goose is good for the gander. They asked for it, didn't they?

I thought only In-house MTs had to do any drug testing - sm

I would think if you have a point about welfare recipients it should go on the political board.

Yes, this does sound more like a political board - question.

nm

Yes, yes, yes..... - they should

[ In Reply To ..]
You are so correct! My husband gets random drug testing to stay employed, and I believe if they want a "free check" they should not only provide drug testing, but should all be forced to work in order to receive benefits. I dont care if its cleaning junk of the highways... DO THE WORK!

I think all congressmen should have to - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
provide a random urine sample including after they leave Congress and collect a lifetime paycheck.

Exactly if that's the case politicians should have to - test as well.

I have heard of drug testing for job safety - but not for health insurance

[ In Reply To ..]
I know they do lab work for life insurance, recently had this done, but never for health insurance. Hospital employees probably get drug tested, both for patient safety and pharmaceutical precautions. What health insurance do you have?

I dunno, on the fence with this one - Hmmmm

[ In Reply To ..]
As a chronic pain patient, I've never had an issue with urine tests as I have verifiable, legitimate prescriptions to substantiate whatever drugs are found on my screens.

I used to frequently hand out $20 a week to a homeless man near my condo. He always had his little dog with him. I would catch him at a red light, motion him over, hand him the money for which he always thanked and blessed me...and then watch him walk to the liquor store, then to McD's to get he and his dog something off the value menu.

At the end of the day, I was doing what I felt was right in my heart. If he chose to spend some of that $20 on a jug of cheap wine to feed his addiction and the balance on food for he and his dog, I have no problem with that. My entire thought was to make his life a little easier, at least for a day, with my $20. If he was at his usual place with his dog and I was going to McD's, I'd pick up a little something for him and an order of nuggets for his pooch, too.

I guess, in my heart fo hearts, if someone truly needs help, it's not for me to judge on what they spend the money I have freely given them. So, to avoid being cruel and/or judgmental, I try not to judge what people may spend their allotments on. I give from a place of good intention. I try to hold to that same ideal when it comes to other welfare/aid recipients.

Maybe I'm too liberal, but I honestly don't care if the person with an EBT card buys themselves a hot value meal from McDonald's or a cold sandwich from 7-11. I figure if that homeless person I was giving money to made sure his pooch was fed but preferred to "feed" himself with cheap wine and cigs, that was his choice.

While I personally think the entire system needs to be revamped, I don't feel comfortable judging on what the recipients spend their funds.

A big part of me feels once the government delves too deeply into the recipients' privacy and monitors their every step, the next thing we know, we working taxpayers will somehow start being included in that same scrutinty.

And that thought frightens me.

In light of all that, I'm going to say no, no blood work before they can get their check.

Please don't flame me for this...It really is a "sword cuts both way" situation, IMO, and I struggle with exactly how I feel about it in general.

agree with hmmmm, dunno.

I agree with you to some extent. I know - there are a lot

of chronic pain patients, and I do have sympathy for them. I don't have a problem really with the ones who take their medications, it's the ones who sell their medications that really gets me. When working in a doctor's office, there were very, very few times that a patient could actually pass a drug screen. The problem wasn't as much the illegal drugs we were finding, it was not finding the ones being prescribed.

I am also a chronic pain patient. My doc requires - urine testing SM

[ In Reply To ..]
every 6 months for that exact reason. However, I do have sympathy for older people who sell their meds in order to have money to eat, pay bills, etc. It's a sad state of affairs we are in, having to choose between eating or taking your meds. I know it is not right but I understand how you could get to that point.

Hmmmm. loved your post. I do the same - thing when I give SM

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't put rules in place if I give to someone. This person is in a very bad place, and who am I to judge what they need to get by? One of my pet peeves is judgmental people. Glass houses. They will always be someone who could judge the judgmental and I doubt they would find that acceptable. Also, when I see someone who has a dog, my heart goes out to them as that would be me if I found myself in that position. It actually puts more hardship on them as I do not believe pets are allowed in shelters.

I am personally sick of people thinking that, because - sm

someone is on welfare, they are a druggie/alcoholic. I am on it now and not ashamed, but people like you sure used to make me ashamed. I am on it because of the kids deadbeat dad and lousy pay in this industry. I will stay on it as long as I want thank you VERY MUCH!! And I should not have to provide a urine sample. I would only say that should be started if there is suspicion that the recipient is not using the funds appropriately!

"People like you," Excuse me? - you are so far off. sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I think you certainly misunderstand. This process has already been tried and failed in Florida. It has been proven that it is a waste of money. No, I do not believe that people on welfare are on drugs. They probably can not afford them in the first place.

There were 2 points being made here. I have to give a urine sample in order to get a job to earn the money to pay that welfare check. Really.....?

The second point is, by using the logic being discussed, if officials are so worried about welfare recipients being the only people who waste tax payer funds, they should check their own back door. We pay their salaries as well. They should be subjected to the same treatment they wish to dish out to the tax payers (and welfare recipients) who pay the funds being discussed.

If you are OP, you said you had to have sample for health insurance - which is it? nm

I am the OP, what do you mean, "which is it"? - ???
[ In Reply To ..]
My message clearly says I have to give blood annually for my company's health insurance. What do you mean, which is it?
Not sure who said what, but - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Do you need a blood sample for health insurance or for your job? Two different things entirely. If it is a MTSO, why would a blood sample be necessary? I cannot imagine why employee health insurance would require a blood test annually. I can see if you missed the open enrollment and were trying to get on employer policy after an insurance coverage gap. I am terrified of changing my employment because I am afraid I will be denied coverage elsewhere.
Okay, one more time. - OP
[ In Reply To ..]
We have to have blood drawn every year for OUR HEALTH BENEFITS/MEDICAL INSURANCE (not the job itself). They claim you get a lower rate if you do not smoke and your cholesterol is at a certain level. If not, you are placed in a higher premium bracket.

Well, I smoke, and I know that my cholesterol is 213. I had blood drawn by my PCP recently, but that is not acceptable to the insurance company. You have to go to their facility. It is free, but you have to go through the trouble of doing it EVERY year. Truly a pain.

welfare - goldie

[ In Reply To ..]
It's not that people just assume welfare recipients are using drugs (that, in itself it pretty offensive), it's because, as a taxpayer, I have a right to know that the welfare money is being used the way it was intended. I'm not the OP, but I don't know where you read that you should be ashamed of being on welfare. I think if you are in need and want my tax money, I have a right to ask that it be used properly.

Lastly, I have to correct your statement, "I will stay on it as long as I want thank you VERY MUCH!!" No, you may stay on it as long as you NEED it, not as long as you WANT it.

ACA Requiring Companies To Provide Insurance To Workers Of 30 Hours Or More Per Week.Jan 14, 2014
I just learned that under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) companies with greater than 50 employees are required to offer insurance to all employees who work an average of 30 or greater hours per week.  My company offers us insurance but you have to meet a production requirement consistently in order to qualify for this, and I know a lot of MTs struggle with this production requirement and therefore even if they work 35-plus hours per week they may not make the production requirement to earn a ...

How Do I Get Rid Of Old Cat Urine Smell?Sep 16, 2013
