SPEAKING OF NOT WANTING TO DISCUSS ISSUES

Posted: Aug 15, 2012

moderators for the upcoming presidential debates a list of "acceptable" topics that can be discussed.  This came after video, in November 2009 (not the only video before flamers start), of Obama talking about the $ 700-billion cuts he made to Medicare.  Democrats said they want to "provide" the questions and "subject matter" that would be "acceptable" for discussion.  Removing all questions about the $700-billion in cuts Obamacare made to Medicare, the lack of budget by Democratic senate for 3+years, Obama's crazy wild spending are all that topics Democrats want to "control" or "remove" from the debate.  If Obama's record for the last 3+ years is so stellar with Obamacare on the top of shooting star, where is the problem?   Why would Obama not want to shout his successes from the rooftops?  Oh wait, Obama has no successes.

Starting to sound a lot like Hitler and his control of the press

Yes, Democrats have a quite a problem discussing any topics truthfully...just look at this board.

Well "sisters," we got our daily Hitler reference - Al Fabbet

I was wondering when that was gonna come.

Maybe it's just me, but if you want to get your point across, starting off with screaming caps and using Hilter references isn't the way to go. I know it makes me tune out. Sorry.

Yep "sisters" and it is well deserved - truth hurts

1. This is the first mention of Hitler, hence no "daily" reference.

2. No different than the Neocon references.

3. She can capitalize all she wants. Someone needs to get the point across.

I just heard about that and had the same thoughts (sm) - Aunt Sue

[ In Reply To ..]
as you. It's bad enough that the moderators of the debates are all in Obama's pocket, now the liberals want to tell them what they can't discuss?? That is totally "Hitlerish" and I hope they don't get away with it. This is totally about control, typical Obama thug style. If I were R&R, I'd get out there and talk in detail about all the topics the Democrats want banned. If Obama gets reelected, several years down the road, you will wonder where your rights went, and you won't even remember it happening.

I heard that, too - Funny thing is

have to endorse Simpson-Bowles in a debate. I'm sure with all my being that Romney does NOT support Simpson-Bowles, so this whole discussion is a joke and much ado about nothing.
Again for the reading impaired - NO ONE ASKED ANYONE TO ENDORSE
[ In Reply To ..]
anything. Will.say.it.slowly.

Was for the benefit of Obama not having to answer for his record. Romney was NOT to be given the courtesy of "approving" what questions Romney would be asked by the press as the press was giving to Obama. The approval was for Obama only, for only the questions that Obama wanted to answer.

Those requirements came directly from the Dems pushing for it. These same Dems, some of them, are starting to walk it back.

Do.you.get.it.now. If not, go to the top of the page. Reread several times where ONLY OBAMA got to "edit" or "approve" the questions asked of OBAMA.
Well, why *would* the Ds object on behalf of Romney? That's for his own people to do. - (nm)

derp :D
What a twisted thought/post derp :D is right - can think of a better word though
[ In Reply To ..]
The point is (read slowly) not to make it comfortable for ANY candidate or give ANY cnadidate special treatment.

The purpose of a debate is for both sides to EQUALLY put out their ideas, explain and/or defend those ideas, explain them....SO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE GET TO SEE WHERE THEY STAND AND WHY.

A debate is not that either side get rid of the tough questions they do not want to answer, or to manipulate the moderators, or to manipulate the press, or to pick and chose what topics are "acceptable", or what voters have a "right" to ask regarding their policy.

Both candidates should be asked the SAME question, with the same time allowd for their answers..Period. NO SPECIAL OBAMA TREATMENT.

If you have a problem with being questioned by voters, then you have some serious issues, and your are hiding something.

Now DWERP.do.you.get.it?
I don't think I'm the one not getting it - (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
Depends on the format. Say Obama objects to a question. If the format of the debate says that candidates get asked different questions, Romney would be an idiot to not lodge an objection to the same question. If the debate says that the candidates are asked the same questions, and if Obama objects, then neither party has to answer, Romney would be an idiot to open his mouth. He might as well let the Ds do the heavy lifting.

What are we even arguing about here?
Ever hear the words "fair" and equal - clearly not

Some Democratic lawmakers want to make sure that one question does not get asked at the upcoming first presidential debate - about Simpson-Bowles.

Three Democratic House members objected Tuesday to a request by four senators that President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney be asked which of the commission’s proposals to address the debt they support. The Democrats said such a question would force “candidates to choose solutions from one menu of options.”

But that caused Reps. Mike Honda (D-Calif.), Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) and Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) to cry foul, writing in their own letter to the debate commission on Tuesday that although the Simpson-Bowles commission’s plan “may contain proposals helpful to our recovery…to hold it out as the only pathway to fiscal responsibility and economic success is foolish and wrong.”

“We urge the [Debate] Commission to fight any effort to unnecessarily narrow such an important debate by placing disproportionate attention on one set of proposals over another,” they wrote, adding that such a question would “cheapen the debate” and “thwart the candidates’ ability to explain alternative proposals.”

The Democrats also criticized the Simpson-Bowles commission in their letter, saying that while it seeks to address the debt, it doesn’t address priorities in infrastructure, education, research and other investments, and that the plan “asks seniors, the middle class, and military personnel to sacrifice more, while those with the most are asked to do even less to help in our recovery.”

“Voters deserve to know where the candidates stand on these issues, the solutions to which are simply absent from the Simpson-Bowles plan,” they wrote.

The first debate will take place on Oct. 3 and will focus on domestic policy issues.

What makes no sense at all, is why do the Democrats think that Obama should get a complete pass on any hard questions, and only be allowed to bloviate about how wonderful Obama thinks Obama is, while Romney is placed under the lights, and has to answer every single question they put to him with no edits?

On the face of it, this stinks to high heavens. Surely, the Democrats have to understand how bad this looks for them, and how biased and in the tank for Obama the press is. This just does not make any sense on any level.

And your reference regarding Hitler; anyone familiar with WWII history would know that Hitler felt that as long as he controlled the press, he could control the country. Eventually, even some of Hitler's advisors woke from their stupor. There was a film "Valkyrie" that was about those close to Hitler that had started to plan his assassination.

Ever heard of the - Commission on Presidential Debates?

[ In Reply To ..]
It's a bipartisan commission that typically consists of former democrat and GOP party chairs, who arranges the venue, vets the questions, and picks the moderators. It's customary for BOTH party candidates to submit a "wish list" of do's and don'ts. The commission has the final word on what questions will be asked.

After all the taboo subject declarations we've seen coming out of the the Romney camp until now, surely you don't believe they won't be submitting their own laundry list to them, or do you? As usual, the Obama team is ahead of their contenders in terms of preparations. R&R will be coming up with their own preferences soon enough.

This is yet one more prime example of another routine, business-as-usual, non-issue. Sorry. No Nazi media takeover is imminent.

let's not upset the applecart with facts and levelheadedness - (!) nm

On my mind has been the stealth helicoptor that was left behind in the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden. I think the young heroes on that raid just got a little too anxious on that one. Another topic I wouldn't mind discussing is whether Americans disagree about politics more these days than in the past. ...
