Truthhurts: I see you have tried to discuss again (sm)

Posted: Jul 23, 2013

in a calm and rational manner this country's problems with race.  O'Reilly explained it very well; that was the best talking points I have ever seen him do.  People on the other side of the aisle on this board don't want to discuss anything that they don't agree with - if you're interested, I know a place where you can discuss rationally - both sides of an issue.  If you're interested, I've checked the box above and will respond to your post.  Not sure how it works.

People protest gun violence all the time - wheres_my_job

Including gun violence between young black people. So O'Reilly was factually in error on that point, and quite a few others.

I have personally participated in protests against gun violence between young black people. These kinds of protests are ongoing, and they in general DO NOT garner national headlines. Local yes, but not national.

I agree that rational discussion is good - but it's not rational if it's not based on FACT.

FBI Statistics of crime - Truthhurts

...Homicide victims usually are killed by people of their own race and ethnicity. The pattern goes back at least a generation.

Bureau of Justice Statistics data show that from 1976 to 2005, white victims were killed by white defendants 86% of the time and black victims were killed by blacks 94% of the time.

Then there is the matter of who is dying. Although the U.S. murder rate has been dropping for years, an analysis of homicide data by The Wall Street Journal found that the number of black male victims increased more than 10%, to 5,942 in 2010 from 5,307 in 2000.

Overall, more than half the nation's homicide victims are African-American, though blacks make up only 13% of the population. Of those black murder victims, 85% were men, mostly young men...

...Overwhelmingly, the victims are black men like Mr. Gibbs, who was shot in the back of the head in his car in Louisiana. Or Rahiem Bailey, 29, who was killed during an apparent robbery in Norfolk, Va. He died the evening of Feb. 26, an hour before Mr. Martin, the Florida teenager, was killed by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman. Lecarlos Todd, a 19-year-old college student, was shot to death earlier that same day in Jackson, Tenn., one of numerous people hurt during a melee at a local night spot. Jackson police said he was an innocent bystander.

In each of these cases, the victims were African Americans younger than 30, and the people charged also were young black men....

This table below shows crime for 2010. Been looking for the most recent, but haven't found it. One thing you have to give the gov't credit for....being slow. ;)

I responded to ONE of O'Reilly's false statements. Nothing you say refutes what I said.

I gave FBI facts in my post.

Bureau of Justice Statistics data show that from 1976 to 2005, white victims were killed by white defendants 86% of the time and black victims were killed by blacks 94% of the time.

I also gave the URL for the statistics up to 2010. You didn’t see them?

What was ONE of O'Reilly's false statements (as you said)?
Not poster you replied to, but - sm

I don't really get it either. What does any of that have to do with protesting black-on-black crime? Her post was about protests, not crime statistics.
Good grief - he said people (civil rights activists) didn't protest violence between black yout - wheres_my_job

That's false. Your provided irrelevant FBI statistics. He also made other statements about people in leadership positions and organizations NOT doing anything about violence between black people that was false. He mischaracterized responses to rates of violence in predominately black communities - which is to say O'Rielly (as he so often does) LIED to make his case.

Discussing race with ********** calmly and rationally - only if you take her side

Premises you must believe to get along with truthhurts is GZ is a nice guy, O'Reilly is filled with wisdom, the president is bad, Trayvon Martin was bad, Al Sharpton is bad, Eric Holder is bad, Jackson is bad.

We Need A New Topic To Discuss And DebateMay 08, 2011
On my mind has been the stealth helicoptor that was left behind in the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden. I think the young heroes on that raid just got a little too anxious on that one. We could talk about whether or not America tortures people, waterboarding, etc. I believe that torture isn't right, whether it's being done to or by American soldiers. Another topic I wouldn't mind discussing is whether Americans disagree about politics more these days than in the past. ...

Asking Again To Keep The Conversation Civil And Discuss PoliticsApr 13, 2012
I am reading down the board and lots of posters are insulting other posters.  Some have got insults mixed in with the subject matter it's becoming difficult to find where it starts.  Insults are coming from all over. I am asking everyone once again to please refrain from insulting other posters.  Lets all be adults and discuss the topics that are important to us.  I know posters are pushing the buttons, but try and ignore them and just stick to the topics.  We real ...

SPEAKING OF NOT WANTING TO DISCUSS ISSUESAug 15, 2012
moderators for the upcoming presidential debates a list of "acceptable" topics that can be discussed.  This came after video, in November 2009 (not the only video before flamers start), of Obama talking about the $ 700-billion cuts he made to Medicare.  Democrats said they want to "provide" the questions and "subject matter" that would be "acceptable" for discussion.  Removing all questions about the $700-billion in cuts Obamacare made to Medicare, the lack of budget by ...

Okay, Let's Discuss - Quote - Can The FLOTUS Be Impeached? (sm)Jun 07, 2013
One newspaper said that Mrs Obama had backed out of the summit to avoid being overshadowed by the "very beautiful" Mrs Peng, while another called it a "national shame".  This is bad, but just one more thing on the list of how they don't respect anyone.  She needs to learn what her duties are as FLOTUS.  Another Chinese newspaper wants to know, "doesn't the U.S. have babysitters?"  Here's a link to an Australian paper. link ...
