Wanting to change internet service, looking for advice

Posted: Jan 8, 2013

I was wondering if anyone here has U-verse with AT&T and if so have you had any problems with it. My internet provider keeps going up, and down and up and this month it is $20 more than last month for what reason? I have satellite television and like that now- used to have years ago and it was not that good so with the Uverse they also offer satellite at a reasonable rate to start. Any thoughts? ;

I have uverse - anon

I liked it at first, now I hate it with a fury of a thousand suns.

Multiple problems:
No. 1 If the computer goes to sleep, and then you wake it up and open the internet, the internet connection can take anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes to reconnect. Completely aggravating, especially if I am just looking up a phone number for a local business.

No. 2 Att jacks the rates all over the place and has a hard time processing and applying payments in a timely efficient manner so the bill never ever makes sense.

No 3. If you're interested in the phone service, which we have in conjunction with the internet, it's almost as bad. The caller id doesn't register all the calls coming in (I just got a new home phone for Christmas, we thought maybe it was the phone, but it's not--it's a uverse problem) and the voice mail is cumbersome to use.

We will be switching to comcast for internet sometime this month.

Thank you SO much! - Precious

It always helps to have someone who either has or has used the product you are interested in and get the low down before making a move you might not like. Talking about the computer going to sleep, have a new computer which does exactly that, my older computer never seemed to. The new one is where I do my work and that issue would drive me buggy as well. Thanks again!

I'm happy with Uverse - me

I have not had any of the problems the previous poster had with Uverse. I had ATT high speed internet for a long time before I switched to Uverse about 6 months ago. No problems with billing or payments, have autopay, also have phone. When my laptop goes to sleep, I don't have any problem reconnecting. My desktop doesn't go to sleep, so I don't know about that. I am very happy with Uverse, no slow downs, very fast, wireless, no outtages. That's the reason I switched in the first place, too many outtages and I needed to work. Just my opinion.

Amen to that. I wouldn't wish AT&T on anyone, not even my cat. They are the worst. After I switched from Comcast, I knew I made a mistake. They are always bothering me about my bill. They want payment Right Away. Their bill never makes sense. I hate it. I wish I would have never switched.

Yes, I do in CA - me

No problems now that they put in a different type of cable. We have lead in our building and thick plaster walls, so all our computers have to be hard wired, as wireless only works in the office. Other than that, the service has been great.

I had a very hard time getting land lines in for the dictation system. They are trying to phase these out for the VoIP lines, which sound terrible, as they are cheaper for them.

So, were you able to get the land lines or - Precious

[ In Reply To ..]
were you charged extra or how did that play out? TIA.

Yes, got the landlines...sm - me

They are evidently phasing out land lines and trying to convince the FCC to hurry. When there will be nothing but VoIP, I do not think I want to continue transcribing. I had a few months of it when my clients installed this, and I insisted they install their land line back for dictation, as per my contract, which they did. I hate VoIP! I had the worst headache that entire time....

AT&T has been good to me as far as only charging residential lines, and I never had problems with the unlimited long distance when I was using a C-phone.

Question About Internet Service ProvidersJul 09, 2016
Last night I was watching TV when I discovered that my half my channels no longer worked.  I have bundled service (internet, land-line phone, and cable TV), so I called my ISP, and they told me that they have a "new and improved" system now (sounds like Nuance, huh?) and I would now have to rent a box for each TV in my house in order to restore my fave channels. Um, no thanks. I'm not under contract, so I'm going to cancel my service and find alternatives.  BTW, I've le ...

Christmas ServiceDec 25, 2013
I just wanted to share this with everyone as I think it is so awesome. My church had a Christmas Eve service last night. We sang carols, the old ones. Now my church is small and our choir during the year has at best 20 members. A lot of people came in for the holidays to spend with their families and some of them joined our choir for the service which raised it up to about 30 members, more or less. Well the main hymn, anthem or whatever was the Halleuia (?) chorus from Handel's messiah ...

Has Anyone Here Used A Check-printing Service? Jul 18, 2014
I recently started helping an elderly friend keep up with his bills. He has no computer and prefers mailing checks. It will cost almost $50 bucks for a refill packet of, I believe, 150 checks from his bank. Has anyone used a check-printing service that charges less? I have seen ads for these services but since they will get his bank acct info, I am being extremely careful. Check-printing software is a thought, but I tend to waste a lot of ink and paper getting printing jobs right. Any other idea ...
