Reading the 23 EO's and truthfully, what does it solve?

Posted: Jan 16, 2013

Not much except spending money on studies and reports. Background checks for gun shows=good one but putting the ATF in charge of following gun purchases when they couldn't even follow their own during Fast and Furious? That's like the fox watching the hen house.

Trashing HIPPA is what Obama will do if forced to make private health reports public for all government databases.

Background checks on ALL gun sales means a private person won't be able to sell a gun unless they go through a gun dealer, which means more costs for the seller, too.

I see NOTHING that will stop criminals from owning, buying, or stealing guns, since they are usually obtained illegally anyway. Their names will still not be in a background check database like the LEGAL GUN OWNER's names.

All Obama's executive orders and/or "suggestions" for new laws will do nothing but make criminals out of private citizens.

;

making criminals out of private citizens? - please explain how that works

I know it's the latest buzz phrase, but I don't understand its meaning.

of course you know what that phrase means.

She said she didn't, and I don't. How does it make criminals - out of people who haven't broken the law? nm

no, I honestly do not know what it means - sm

Is this like that old schoolyard chant: "Well, if you don't know, I'm not going to tell you?" lol. Believe me, if I want to be patronizing, I won't be ambiguous.

So again, can anyone tell me what this means?
evidently, "if you don't know, I'm not going to tell you" prevails - sm

A frame work for a sensible and effective approach to gun safety reforms. It also deflates and diffuses extremists’ claims of unconstitutional, impeachable executive power grabs and marginalizes their and the NRA’s paranoia and fear-mongering tactics.

The first 4 measures are directed toward building a more effective background check database, removing barriers to that process and taking a positive approach to its utilization by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and officials and private sellers. #5 introduces provisions for expansion of gun seizure protocols

#s 7 and 8 address gun safety and responsible gun ownership while #s 9 and 10 seek to define and document the current status of lost and stolen guns reporting programs and making that information available to law enforcement. #10 addressed the long overdue remedy to lack of stable, competent ATF leadership with the appointment of a Department Director.

Implicit in #s 12-15 are innovative programs to improve training for, response to and enforcement against active shooting incidents, expand understanding of gun violence causes and prevention initiatives, and develop and implement new safety technologies. I heard one of the Sandy Hook parents talking about fingerprint and palm-print recognition grips and access mechanisms for gun storage. Looks like the president heard her pleas as well.

#s 16 and 17 aim to clarify for MDs and the public, media misinformation campaigns regarding ACA provisions allowing MDs to CONTINUE social history constructs (and reporting) of patients’ access to guns in their homes. #s 18 and 19 seek to facilitate incorporation of police officer liaisons between school administrators, teachers and parents to formulate broad-based approaches to emergency response plans.

substitute "accomplish" for "solve" - sm

A problem like this cannot be solved, per se. What we CAN do is admit we have a problem, and treat that problem with the respect it deserves. I believe the 23 measures accomplish exactly that:

I believe we have a responsibility to make a commitment to identify our problems through attention and research, and to develop policies and procedures in an ongoing effort to make firearm abuse RARE. I believe the 23 measures demonstrate such a commitment.

I don't think it makes honest citizens criminals BUT - it definitely makes

honest citizens pay the consequences for criminals by forcing us into obeying even more restrictions that the criminals never have and never will obey. Of course, that's nothing new-exactly why we have so many prisons with cable TV, weight rooms, etc., and the tax payer pays for it. Tougher penalties for crime, prisons where the prisoners work and help provide for themselves-let them grow a garden or manufacture something they can sale and use the money for their upkeep-stop the slap on the hand or letting them go 3rd, 4th, 5th offense before actually doing something about their behavior. Tougher penalties would be a bigger deterrent to crime and would stop penalizing the honest citizens for the crimes of others, but we wouldn't want to violate the RIGHTS of the criminal now would we?

watch out there... - sm

the NRA is IN THE BUSINESS of protecting the rights of violent criminals. You have it backwards, dear.

Outside Cat, Trying To Solve Eye Issues AndOct 27, 2014
I wrote down below about outside cat that has eye issues. Some told me about L-Lysine, got that and started 1000 mg a day or so ago. What I would like to know, have some Vitamin C that I was giving him and he seemed to have brighter eyes. This morning his eyes again (after not giving him the Vitamin C, switching out for L-Lysine) were looking a little worse. Would it be any problem to give him both the Lysine and the Vitamin C? Thanks my fellow catfolks! ...

I've thought about this before, and it occurred to me again while reading exerpts from Woodward's newest book...along with "rebuttals" from Obama, Pelosi, Boehner, Reid, etc.  Most of these amount to "that never happened". Also, I've thought about this in conjunction with things like the secret negotiations with pharmaceutical companies to gain their support for Obamacare.  I don't say this just happens on one side - it happens on both sides. I've Been Reading Up On The Flat TaxApr 14, 2011
Flat tax won't work. If they would institute a flat tax, they would close loopholes we all take at tax time. This is why Malcolm Forbes running for President was all for the flat tax. " Following the 1986 tax reform, the average income tax paid by somebody in the $50,000-$75,000 bracket indeed went down, and I mean way down--$1,100. The total tax take for that bracket went up $7.6 billion because there were many more taxpayers in that range in 1987. Fact is, taxes for virtually all tax bra ...

Yet Another Thread About Reading :-)Mar 18, 2012
Obviously a lot of us love to read!   My question for everyone is do you keep a list of the books you have read?   I started doing this about 2 years ago because one of my kids came home from school saying that in class that day the teacher was talking about reading and said that she had heard a statistic that the average person reads 300 books in their lifetime.  Knowing me, my son heartily disagreed with that statement and said I probably read 300 books each year.   T ...
