Menopause question with explicit personal TMI.

Posted: Mar 12, 2015

Explicit personal anatomical information below -  do not read if offended or prudish.

Wondering if anyone else has had similar symptoms and how did you resolve them.

I think I may have started menopause and have done some research on my symptoms.  Seems like dry tissues and URI are a symptom, of which I have had both.  Very rarely do I get URIs, but after this one was resolved  (I hope), seems like i have somewhat dry but itchy and somewhat achy inner labial mucous membranes.  Kind of feels like you're getting a period with the somewhat congested, uncomfortable, almost beginning crampy feeling.

Obviously you can't scratch to relieve the itch, but gentle rubbing seems to help.  I have also used pure aloe vera gel, and some rose moisturizing facial oil and rose moisturizing toner spray on the inner labial membranes.  That helps to relieve the itching and somewhat mild ache like a UTI.  The burning on urination has resolved several weeks ago.

I did have about a month ago a very long and difficult course with sinusitis/URI.

It's not a yeast infection, I took no antibiotics for the UTI or sinusitis/URI to cause yeast.

Also seem to notice that I have a much stronger odor recently after the UTI.  I've used cranberry juice and capsules, tried to drink a lot more water.   I do have some probiotic capules that I may start taking to try to reset my whole system.

I dont have much money for medication. I wanted to try the organic products I have here first and thought if I can use it on my face, I can sure try more intimately.  I've used Ivory shower lotion, organic grapefruit based shower gel, and my higher quality facial cleansing cream to wash and never had an adverse reaction.  I dont have insurance for a doctor visit and refuse to go on hormones unless organic therapies dont help.

I researched evening primrose oil, wild yam cream, and other organic remedies.

I seem to not really have much sexual desire right now,  that may be some stress and life situation, but I notice not as much as I used to have.

If this is menopause, it's really strange.

I'm also going through menopause... - SM

I'm not having the symptoms you describe, but there are plenty who do. There is a great forum where women discuss very openly all these things, and even the not-so-delicate, TMI subjects ;) It's called menopause chitchat (I hope it's okay I post the name). I suggest you try there; you'll probably find some answers, and plenty of commiseration!

Thank you for sharing this. I appreciate it. - I was a bit wary posting here SM

knowing there were likely to be some uptight prudes who would be offended and make negative posts. I'm off to the other form then, but if anyone still wants to share their experience here I would appreciate it.

Full disclosure-I am a gynecologist who googled the spelling of a word and found your site. I am menopausal and have had your symptoms. Your symptoms might be due to estrogen deficiency which causes the skin to get thin and fragile and the acid ph to change, but more likely it is contact sensitivity to something you are using. If you stop everything with fragrance and all the products you mentioned, clean only with water, in a few days the irritation may resolve Then you can try using Cetaphil which is usually non sensitizing. I hope this helps.

Had problems with the odor situation, not so much the itchiness. But I've used a gel called RepHresh that helps adjust the whole pH thing. It does seem to work, though is a bit pricy. I believe you can find an on-line coupon for $2 off; still expensive at like $20 for 4 doses, but it's worth a try. I think it said to use it daily at first, but I've never used it more than once a week.

Menopause QuestionOct 05, 2015
I'd appreciate any insight: I have recently developed pain in my nither region. I thought yeast infection, got an OTC treatment with no relief. Made an appointment with my doc, but got a clean bill of health. The pain persists, doc ordered tests, ultrasound, all normal. He thinks dryness or perhaps the beginning of atrophy, said we could try hormones but I haven't decided on that.  Has anyone ever had this?  It's not excruciating, but it does hurt, like I got a hefty kic ...

Personal QuestionJul 24, 2013
ONe of the questions on the MMPI is whether you have a fantasy life that no one knows about.  Which I do.  So I got to wondering, does everyone? Maybe it's normal?  We are not talking about sexual fantasies, but more like the old imaginary friends kind of fantasy life.  I have never EVER told ANYONE about my fantasy life, which has been going on for probably 40 years.  I have very well developed characters with names and histories.  When I'm alone I replay ...

A Quirky (if Somewhat Personal) QuestionFeb 24, 2016
Do any of the women on here wear boxer shorts? I mean, MEN'S boxer shorts. The reason I ask is that I was complaining about the high cost of women's PJs and one of my friends told me she buys men's boxers at Walmart and sleeps in them with a large t-shirt for the top. I bought a 3-pack of boxers and found them amazingly comfortable! I was surprised to learn that two other women in our little group also wear boxers! Who knew? Somehow I just thought this was kind of funny. ...

Going Through Menopause - When Will I Ever Get Through It?Dec 09, 2009
I am forgetful.  I am fatigued.  My perception is off.  When asked a question sometimes I know in my mind what to say, but then the wrong answer comes out my mouth, i.e. "is the elevator going up or down"  I would say going down, but in my mind I knew it was going up and that is what I thought I was saying until it comes out of my mouth as opposite. ...

How Do You Know If You Are Going Into Menopause?Jan 02, 2011
I'm 46 and I think it's too early for full menopause, but can you start going into premenopause much sooner?  What's the average age for that?  The reason I ask is that for the past year, I've been having some weird symptoms and am just now wondering if it has anything to do with hormones/menopause symptoms;  the worst of which was an episode where I woke up with the room spinning around me.  It was terrifying.  Then right afterwards I got really nau ...

I guess it's time... Menopause is knock knock knocking on my door.  I cannot believe the symptoms that come along with this!  Hot flashes are bad enough, but dry skin, I don't heal like I used to and now a little cut or scrape will be a dark scar, unpredicable periods, dry mouth, fatigue and mood swings! Forgetfulness, can't concentrate...  The worst has got to be the fatigue.  I can't wake up in the mornings, but I can't fall to sleep at night!& ...

Menopause And Weight GainFeb 13, 2011
I found out about a year ago that I'm in full-blown menopause.  I have all the characteristic issues that go along with it.  All of my life I've had to watch what I eat and try to exercise regularly (but that isn't going nearly as well as it should be right now).  Some days I just have no motivation whatsoever.  My tighter and tighter fitting clothes should be motivation enough, but apparently it isn't.  I'm so tired of this weight gain and feeli ...

Menopause - Please Tell Me There Is Light At The End Of The TunnelMay 19, 2010
I have been transcribing for 32 years now, am 54 years old.  I started menopause 1-1/2 years ago (so I guess since they say you have to have missed a period for 1-full year that I am officially menopausal).  My world seems topsy turvy.  Is there light at the end of the tunnel.   I have tried working a second job for the past year off and on, but it has been too difficult to concentrate.  After 10 years of working from home, because of the slump in production decided ...

How Long Is This Menopause Thing Gonna Last?Nov 22, 2010
My LMP was almost 3 yrs ago.  Not too many hot flashes, about 3 a day, but the ones at night wake me up, so I don't get good sleep.  I'm 46 now, menarche at 10.  Saw an ob/gyn 3 ysa and said my LH and FSH were too low to be having any more periods.  Any info, this is just the pits.  Mood swings, swelling, weight gain, you know the gory details.  Tried soy pills and tofu/soy products, but made the hot flashes worse and will not use hormones.   I ...

Any Suggestions For Natural Supplements For Menopause Symptoms?Nov 11, 2015
I'm 48 and started having weird periods about six months ago.  Kind of figured I was gearing up for menopause.  Ive had a couple of hot flashes, but and just irregular bleeding, but that's about it.  Well, I skipped my last couple of periods and thought great I'm done with periods.  Got my period a couple of days ago, and whew boy did I feel like crap.  I have been emotionally wrecked for two days - crying at the drop of a hat and I've just felt ...

Need Personal AdviceMar 11, 2011
Need advice. My son is 40 and has 2 children ages 12 and 14.  He is getting divorced but that's not the main issue.  For the past 20 years he has been sporadic in sending christmas cards/gifts, birthday and mother's day cards/gifts.  His wife would often cover for him but only some of the time.   I don't believe I have ever had a card, phone call or gift for mother's day.  The last few years I have gotten nothing on any of the aforementioned "sp ...

Personal OpinionApr 09, 2011
Since it seems that only rich people run for office...perhaps we should make campaign contributions illegal.  Make these politicians foot the bill.  The amount of money wasted on politicians for their campaigns would put a nice dent in our nations deficit.  Would also get rid of this crony capitalism and perhaps get some politicians who actually will do the right thing instead of doing what their biggest campaign contributors want them to do.  Just a thought.  I'm j ...

Physical/Personal Qualities?Jun 08, 2010
Which would you prefer when looking for a mate? Personal Qualities or Physical Qualities? Why would one win out over the other to you? Guess ya'll are wondering why I ask this question? The answer is this: this guy that I know says he wants his mate to be average build (physical quality)and have certain personal qualities and won't settle for less than he wants. He's in his 50's by the way. My side of the argument is this: if my personal qualities are met then I'm ...
