Has anyone here used any of the exercise devices for Kegels? I'm wondering if they work, which ones work better, how you use them and whether you or your partner have noticed a difference sexually.

My physical therapist told me to do Kegels (without a device). I did so many Kegels I started my period and I'm 61. Turned out I had polyps and had to have surgery. I don't know if Kegals started my symptoms but I'm glad they did even though it was weird. I think Kegels help during sex although they are also supposed to help strengthen your pelvic muscles and keep your bladder from getting weak. No weak, no leak.

It's either that or the steroid injections I had a couple weeks before bleeding started. Or a combination of both. Probably Kegels aggravated polyps.

Trying to picture it - hmm, I don't think they'd have anything to do with that, anatomically speaking.

You can get Kegel exercise handout from your health care provider, I think info is online too. You don't need any devices (just an MT's opinion).

I do these exercises but without a device and have for years. They not only help for sexual reasons but to tone up your bladder in general (I've understand Kegels help to strengthen the appropriate muscles to avoid urinary incontinence).

According to Mr. Persnickety, they are quite effective.

I just started doing them yesterday (without devices), and even though I've read a fair amount of advice, I still can't tell exactly if I'm using the right muscle. I know it's the muscle that stops the flow of urine, but honestly, when I "flex" it, not a whole lot happens.

If you need to do them, it is likely that the muscles aren't very strong, so not much would happen. Did they tell you to start out by stopping and starting the flow of urine? If stuff down there is weak, that might be the only way to figure out what to do.

Please notice that I said "to start out." Once you have the right idea and are doing these successfully, don't continue starting and stopping the flow of urine. That might cause a bladder infection.

I too had always thought Kegels included starting and stopping urine stream, but I asked my OB/GYN about that and he said not to do that because it can cause infection.

I said "to start out." That is actually one of the recommended ways to learn.

Do any of the women on here wear boxer shorts? I mean, MEN'S boxer shorts. The reason I ask is that I was complaining about the high cost of women's PJs and one of my friends told me she buys men's boxers at Walmart and sleeps in them with a large t-shirt for the top. Okay, here is a question that I have not seen come up here. While watching news today this just crossed my mind. If the government sets an insurance rate you have to pay based upon what you make per year, do they take into account all your other bills, and that sometimes as ICs we don't get any work coming in at times, and then what they set is more than what you can afford (i.e. more money than your paycheck and you still have to pay all your bills). One of my 2yo males has a cyst on the side of his head. I just noticed it this morning, it's about the size of a golfball and underneath his ear. Its not in his mouth.
