Obama Gift Registry - Is this for real?

I'm no Obama fan but can this be real?  What's next... Asking federal employees to donate their PTO, sick time, vacation days for his campaign funds??

LOL well he wins the creativity award. - sm

I suppose there could be someone silly enough to donate their registry gifts for a politician.

Not only that - - Got your Obama phone yet?

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not kidding. It's at obamaphone dot net. Oh please. How desperate can one get?

Guess Obama showing everyone - how DESERATE HE IS...Lololol

Billionaire donors (foreign ones too thanks Citizens United!!)
Not to mention Obama foreigner contributors - and SuperPac + billion dollar spending pledge
[ In Reply To ..]
for Obama campaign. Yeah, POOR Obama, no money, he's so mistreated. Yeah, like Obama didn't have any billionaire donors. Get those talking points out. Here's a wild thought - People are SICK of Obama and his complete total inadequate governance.
What talking point - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Mitt is winning wall street. Google it. You had to know the corporate raiders and swindlers were gonna flock to him. I could care less how much money either of them get...doesnt change my vote.

If the phone doesn't work - Obama will blame it on Bush :)

[ In Reply To ..]
What a pathetic loser BO is.

maybe you are not familiar with the program - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
This is not a "hot line" to Obama. In fact, this was a program started by Bush:

" The free Obama phone is a program that is meant to help the financially unstable who cannot afford access to a cell phone. Communication should not be limited to people in relation to what they are able to afford. The Lifeline program was actually created decades ago to help low income families have access to land lines. Over the years the cost of cell phones and cellular service has decreased and the program has been extended to cover cell phones.

During the Bush administration, there was the introduction of a project that gave subsidies to those who could not afford a phone. The basic principle of the program is that everyone should have access to emergency services like 911. There are a number of deaths that take place every year do to lack of proper communication, and access to emergency services should be a right for everyone.

The free Obama phone is an important program, especially for low income families that would otherwise not have access to basic communications. There are different plans to choose from. Some plans offer fewer minutes and more texting and some even include rollover minutes. Make sure you check out all the plans before choosing the one that is right for you."

Thanks for a belly laugh - this takes the cake (wedding) - Conservative

You should win a prize! I just heard this morning on the news that Obama spent $15-million more last month than he took in. Guess Obama's running his campaign the same way he runs the taxpayer coffers. Who wants to be the one to tell him his Kenseyian economics will not work any better for his campaign than it does for us or any entitlement program? What happened to all his rich Hollywood posse that popped $ 40,000 a plate? Your post was absolutely priceless!

Yes he shouldve charged $50,000 - like Romney

GET YOUR POSTERS STRAIGHT "CHICKY LOU" - AND STOP LYING ABOUT POST

Prez was not called a name. If you can't post truthfully, then why post at all...we all can read your ***. Keep up the ***and distortions of other posters...***.

Why do people who dont sign a moniker to their post throw conniptions about people confusing their posts with those of someone else who also dont sign a name. If it is that important to you then sign them. Otherwise I dont see how you fault someone for not knowing "your" post from Strawberry Shortcake's.
Well dang nab it - the burden of proof lies with
[ In Reply To ..]
the poster lying about what is posted and not knowing which poster they are attacking. Very few identify their posts with a moniker as I am sure you are aware. Those that make the assumptions about attacking/blaming/stalking posters they can't possibly identify or posts they can't verify, shows you the knee-jerk mentality of the person so intent on attacking someone else, they throw responsbility out. On top of that, those knee-jerk attackers usually have no idea what they are talking about and their posts show it.
tripping about lying about post - -
[ In Reply To ..]
Accuse others of lying, then drop the "getting banned" bomb.
Your point if you got one? - in regards to tripping
[ In Reply To ..]
Can easily check with moderator regarding lying about another poster's post, assuming you know poster's identity, falsifying posts of others, personal attacks...to see if these are "bannable" offenses...Ummm, they are.

Personally, do not care who posts on here or not, if they stay or to to another board. Would be nice if the posters with the all-knowing (not) rhetoric can be dump it the self-serving comments and personal attacks for the purpose of actual political discourse. Just sayin'
Could you please rephrase this: - sm

I'm sorry, but I simply cannot understand it.
that it is foolish to accuse people of lying - my point
[ In Reply To ..]

Do people really want that as president? - what if

[ In Reply To ..]
You have a man who is so out of touch with reality. I'm going to have to say this is a joke. He actually cannot be that stupid to start asking people for their wedding gifts and birthday money. If it is true all I can say is that is really pitiful. Especially since he's worth over a million dollars. If he wants to play president again so bad then he should be using his own money to give him that greed he so longs for. Not be asking people in the country who look forward to getting some birthday money so they can go out to eat and do a little something nice like buy themselves a new pair of shoes or a new outfit.

I'm thinking this has to be a joke. He cannot be that out of touch with reality or that money hungry greedy that he is acting like the grinch shoving the xmas tree up the chimney. Also he has to be that out of touch/stupid to think that everyone adores him so much they will do it.

I'd say it was a good laugh to start the weekend, but it gave me a headache thinking about how stupid that was.

Not changing my vote - nm

Me neither. If corporations are people - gift registries are fair game too

[ In Reply To ..]
They're just another group of people with free choice. They should have the same rights under the law that people do and be allowed to amass as much cash they desire. There should never, never be limits on their contributions nor should they be required to disclose donor sources or amounts. The sky's the limit!

I'm with the others who understand that tracking the money is not where it's at. Citizens United destroyed the last shred of campaign finance ethics we had when SCOTUS activists inflicted that boondoggle upon us all. For me, it's all about issues. The latest hairbrained distractions cons come up with to avoid crafting a viable campaign just bore me to tears. The up side is that every single minute spent on this kind of nonsense is another minute squandered. The clock is ticking.

People supporting this garbage as pathetic - as *** "O"

[ In Reply To ..]
*** What a joke this BO ***is. Every week Barry sinks to a new low. Before long, we'll have to dig a hole for him just to slug his way through the masses, looking for wedding money envelopes and loose change.

So a post where I called someone pathetic - is deleted

[ In Reply To ..]
Yet this one remains. I supposed I will get the oh its a general post excuse from the obviously right-leaning moderator but to me it is not. It is a direct insult to anyone who supports Obama.
No different than the Bush or Republican insults - or attacking moderator
[ In Reply To ..]
that are routinely directed personally. Post you're complaining abut not so much. No personal attack, merely reflection on Obama. BTW - Real smart attacking the moderator because of you calling someone else pathetic...Sheesh
reality check - insults
[ In Reply To ..]
Romney is pathetic. People who support Romney are pathetic. See the difference?

The second sentence is a method used by some posters to insult individuals while claiming they are not engaging in personal attacks.

It is disingenuous to say that the post in question was "merely a reflection on Obama". If that were true, we would not have needed the phrase "...as pathetic as...."
I explained this to you in an email - see message - Moderator
[ In Reply To ..]
Attacking and name calling targeted at a specific poster is forbidden. That is why the message was removed. I explained that to you in the email and I also explained it in my message above. If any poster cannot follow the rules and cannot post without insulting or harassing a poster then do not post.

The poster made a general statement. It may not be one you like or agree with, but it is her own feelings and not a personal attack directed/targeted at any specific poster.

Every poster has the right to freedom of expression to talk about how they feel as long as they are not attacking another poster or calling them names or harassing them.

Example:

You are pathetic - Personal attack.
I think that is pathetic - General statement.

You may not like someone else's opinion, but they have as much right to express their opinions as anyone else. I have seen harsh words directed at the other side also, which I left up as it was general and not directed at specific posters. Everyone has the right to express their opinions, not just one side.

Nobody likes to hear anything bad about a candidate they support, but this is politics. People need to develop a thicker skin. Especially now as elections are getting closer. Emotions are running high as is anger If you cannot stand a different opinion than your own then this is not the place to be.

If a poster directly insults you and calls you a name directly that post will be removed. Any post containing harassing or obscene language will be removed. People expressing how they feel about politics will remain up. That goes for all sides.
I hear you - rinse, repeat
[ In Reply To ..]
It is one thing to say that a candidate is pathetic. It is quite another to say that people who support the candidate are pathetic. I think the moderators have a hard time sorting that out.

In spite of the copious posting instructions, it's hard to know which way the wind is blowing on any given day. It would be nice to be able to post without fear of retribution - particularly when ugly accusations and foul language are leveled at unsuspecting posters trying to share their own opinions.

people supporting this garbage as pathetic as people POSTING this garbage - how did I do?

[ In Reply To ..]
Based on the latest parameters, I understand this is allowed.
Is that all that you care about - how much you can insult people - just curious
[ In Reply To ..]
Instead of wanting to discuss issues, you want to know how far you can take it to insult posters. That's all that matters?

No, your message is not a direct insult. It is stating how you feel. Happy?

Yet, not one post about the original message, just how far you can go with the insults.

This is a political board for discussion about political issues.

Update: Oh, no. It is true. - Bindi

I went to his official website and, yes, this is real, listed today.

"Register with Obama 2012
Got a special milestone or event coming up?

Instead of another gift card you’ll forget to use, ask your friends and family for something that will go a little further: a donation to Obama for America. Register your next celebration—whether it’s a birthday, bar or bat mitzvah, wedding, or anniversary—with the Obama campaign. It’s a great way to show your support for a cause that’s important to you on your big day."

I don't know about you folks but I have NEVER forgotten to use a gift card.

Sorry about the url; I'm url-challenged. - Bindi ((nm)

I just finished a 12-hour shift and loads of OT this week. As tired as I am,I came back to read your post again for a good laugh. In all the elections I have lived through, I have never seen a candidate stoop this low, even in the little, tiny, cash-strapped towns surrounding my city. Guess Obama's trillion dollar war chest is not covering expenses what with all the vacations, Michelle's $800.00 garden boots, $1200.00 purses and jackets, Obama's endless golf rounds. Something has got to give and Obama wants to make sure it is YOU!! Cannot wait to see if any liberal stations carry this.

And we know Michelle didn't get those... - Bindi

[ In Reply To ..]
$800 garden boots at Target! When I first saw this story earlier today, I hesitated to post it here because I thought it was so unbelievable that surely it must be satire and I was too dimwitted to get it. But, NO-O-O-O-O-H, it's fact. When I first googled it, there were 3 news outlets covering it, and now there are 3+ pages on Google (Google "Obama Gift Registry").

This is either incredibly stupid on his part and there will be a backlash and it will simply disappear from his official website OR it's a brilliant new trend that all politicians will adopt.

Please huddled poor masses, can I have your spare change? - Sincerely, King Pompous Obama
