BO was hoping to keep this under wraps, but information is coming to light. I hope people vote with their head and pocketbooks, and hopefully realize what the Obama agenda is doing to this country.

I hear what you are saying, but like my husband always says to me, you have to have different parties because they represent different things. If you do away with the parties and have just one party which one is going to be it (which then becomes a dictatorship with no choices).

What we need is the corruption to end. If there are people out there who would rather cheat at all costs just so they can win, then they need to be identified and rounded up. The states (heard Illinois is the last one) who just rounds up ballots of the opposing party they don't want and just throws them in the dumpster. Heard that happened last election and now it's happening again. So what do we need to have since the American people cannot be trusted to count votes fairly? Get people from other countries to monitor our elections because the people with the money are cheating.

I served in the military for a country that was free and good. Now people are dispicable. They don't care about people who have opposing viewpoints and they believe those people shouldn't have a say in voting, only what they want that's all that matters to them. Go ahead and vote multiple times, just as long as its our side.

Meanwhile the country suffers because of their selfish attitudes.

Until you get rid of all the corruption all the way to the top and you start educating people about whose been doing what and who's been lying to you the corruption and cheating will continue.

Those who should run should be people with - intelligence, insight, and GOOD IDEAS. (sm)

People who can perceive broader concepts than just black-or-white, but the myriad shades of gray in-between.

People who "color outside the lines", so to speak, who can approach societal problems in ways that haven't already been tried (and failed) before.

These aren't necessarily the richest Americans, or the biggest back-slapping politicians. Sometimes the people with the best ideas to improve a company are not those at the top, but those who are turning the wheels by working for them. The same with citizens of a country. The "elite" (royals, billionaires, CEOs or other 1-percenter types often don't have much of anything new to add to society. All they care about is protecting what THEY'VE got, and don't care so much how things turn out for everyone else. Not now, that's for sure, and they certainly could care less about what happens beyond their own lifetime.

That's what's got to change. We need younger minds in the mix. People who have ideas that are far bigger than how to accumulate and preserve their own wealth.

Your comment about the electorate college was interesting and I sat hear actually asking myself why do we even have one. I'm glad we have one because I don't think I trust the people of the country enough to choose who is president. I believe people should actually have to take and pass a test before being allowed to vote. Voting for someone who is supposed to lead our country and represent the people should not be left in the hands of people who know nothing about it. That's like having dope dealers decide whether they are going to have a law whether or not to make dope dealing illegal (not saying Americans are like dope dealers, just couldn't think of a better scenario and since we had issues dealing with dope on our ballots last time that's what I remember. But I do think people should pass an exam before being allowed to vote. I don't want the next president picked because someone like his tie or thought someone was so handsome, or that he was black or hispanic, man or woman, etc. There are actually people walking around who don't know who Joe Biden is. There are people who don't know what DC stands for and I don't want anyone chosen or not chosen because some yahoo thinks his or her name is funny sounding. I think that is why I'm for the electorate college. Also states like Rhode Island should get an equal amount of representation that other states like CA or TX gets. I think the electorate college actually makes it more fair.

Instead we "elect" already-bought and paid-for electorates to supposedly do our bidding. I think that was part of the problem when somehow, despite the majority of US voters electing Al Gore president, somehow George Bush ended up the "winner".

This is why they keep "re-districting" different areas of voters. It's ridiculous, expensive, and often goes against the majority.

No way will that ever happen. There is no means test if you are an American citizen. The Constitution will never be changed to require a test for a citizen to earn the right to be a voter.

As far as bias, you can pass a test and still have bias. If Hillary runs in 2016, she's got my vote already. I don't give a hang if somebody thinks I am only voting for her because she's a female. My citizenship gives me the right to vote for whomever I want and for whatever reason I want to vote for them. There is no test that can filter out bias or take away my right to vote for my choice for whatever reason I decide. :)

If you've got a candidate with the right qualifications and background. An excellent foreign policy, a viable plan to grow the economy, get people back to work, and is great in other areas they need to be in they should be voted for and not the guy who looks great in a suit and has a great singing voice because 51% of the population doesn't understand politics, knows nothing about the issues, doesn't even know who the VP is or why we have a congress, senate, doesn't know the constitution, but they all got together between episodes of survivor or the Kardashians and thought it would be cool to vote for someone cos he's sooooo handsome. That just means that if there are more idiots in this country they have ruined the lives of the other half of the country for stupid reasons. The electoral college does not need any "sense" at all "as to why they select a candidate." Whichever party slate wins the most popular votes in each state becomes that state's electors, so that, in effect, whichever presidential ticket gets the most popular votes in a state wins all the electors of that state. What sense do they need to have when the people's vote determines their vote? The electoral college, in effect, creates 51 separate elections for the office of presidency, and it is absolutely and 100% totally decided by popular vote, and the winner of the popular vote takes all the electors. The two exceptions to this are Maine and Nebraska where two electors are chosen by a statewide popular vote and the remainder by the popular vote within each Congressional district.

So how could the electoral college protect us from what you are describing as "the idiots in this country?" The idiots in Texas (no offense to anyone here, as I chose my home state) can get together and still choose whomever they want and for whatever reason they want. Being as the electoral college is simply electors who cast their votes based on the popular vote in their state, you still couldn't test away bias. I could be Albert Einstein and pass the Texas test to prove I'm not politically stupid, and I could still turn around and exercise my right to vote for whomever I wanted, for whatever reason I wanted, with all my biases quite intact. I could also choose to vote against one person but not necessarily for the other, which I refer to as "the lesser of two evils" voting.

If a state is going to be allowed to test people and disqualify them from their constitutional right to vote, then I think those people that are deemed too stupid to vote shouldn't have to pay sales tax or state or federal taxes or any kind of taxes at all because making them pay taxes but not allowing them to vote would be making them pay for government that they are not allowed to participate in... taxation without representation.

Driving is a privilege that one earns by demonstrating they can operate a motor vehicle and demonstrate they have insurance against liability should they harm other drivers. Voting shouldn't be for the privileged, as that would violate the rights otherwise given to people by the United States Constitution. Amending the Constitution to require a litmus test to vote? Not likely to ever happen since it would require amending the Constitution to take away rights of American citizens that other amendments have already granted them.

I still don't like the electoral college because - that way, too many single votes dont count.

I want my vote to mean something. I want a chance at a better life in this country, as I do for all Americans in this country. These rates are posted on Price Waterhouse Coopers accountants website (see link below) and have been for a while. Where do people get all this bogus information? No one is trying to hide anything. LOL.

Some rates are actually going DOWN by as much as 22%, but some are going up, yes. A person is always free to switch providers during open enrollment if they are unhappy.

Why would these conservative websites tell their readers these figures are being hidden when they know for a fact what the numbers are because they're posted right there on PWC!? I guess because they don't want to report the mostly modest increases and some huge decreases! It's the freemarket part where competition has caused some rates to decrease.

It really is silly to make stuff up about premiums when so many of them are posted as soon as they are known. Besides, Obamacare is here to stay. Sure, it might be tweaked to fix it, but it's going nowhere. If your elected officials are telling you otherwise, they are knowingly telling you a lie. The data have been posted for weeks now! Price Waterhouse Coopers posts it for employers in order for them to make informed decisions about buying health insurance for their employees. If it's incorrect, their reputation is killed. They have been keeping this type information for employers to make informed decisions about employee healthcare costs for decades and decades now. Why is everything a conspiracy to conservatives? The data is finalized in 6 states and DC and posted. These state exchanges and the District of Columbia cannot knowingly post false data or they are committing insurance fraud and suffer severe penalties. If your conservative websites are telling you the numbers are being kept "under wraps" and hidden when they've got quite a lot of numbers that have been posted since early October, that is because the average increase is modest.

Do you understand the rates posted for 7 exchanges are FINAL? Conservative websites are NOT going to post those modest increases, and the readers are being snowed in order to further their agenda. Those are the facts.

It's just a guessing game. The only numbers you should watch are the Premium Increase Range because that's the number that's going to count in 2015.

In your example, NY's rates can either be minus -15% UP to +13%.

No accounting firm can predict insurance rate increases. I don't care how big and how smart they are.

The rates are NOT predictions or a "guessing game." The posted rates are the rates that the insurance companies have requested which then must be approved by state insurance commissioners to be finalized. These are not guesses; they are the actual requested amounts. If anything, these rates will be approved at the requested or lower amounts in states where they are not yet approved and finalized (just as they were reduced in New York); however seven of the exchanges have already finalized their rates, six states and the District of Columbia. I used New York as an example because the numbers are final in that state.

Again, these are NOT predictions by the accountants; they are the actual rate decreases and increases requested by the insurance companies, and yes they vary widely as you pointed out by showing the California rates. The "Average Premium Increase" figure of 0.6 in New York can be figured because the figures are approved and finalized, and they are weighted based on allocations of persons belonging to each individual plan (they know who is enrolled in what plan). The "Median Premium Increase" figure of 3.2% is an unweighted simple average across all the plans on the exchange (21 different plans).

Anyone that is unhappy with the rate increase of their healthcare provider (or with their plan in general, for that matter) is free to change plans during open enrollment beginning 11/15. I am guessing that those whose insurance rates are decreasing by 15.3% will be happy about it.
