They are going up and the deductible and out of pocket is HUGE!!  WTH? I thought this was supposed to be affordable. Thanks a bunch Obama you big freakin' loser. How the heck am I supposed to feed my family you moron?

It's all part of the fundamental transformation of the country he promised.

It worked for me, thanks to the Pubs sending - my job to India. Free healthcare! :D

Where do you get these ideas? "Republicans" didn't - send your job to India.

These are purely business decisions, having nothing whatsoever to do with political party affiliation. How many foreign programmers do you think Microsoft employs - and you could hardly call Bill Gates a conservative! Warren Buffett holds numerous investments in companies that outsource heavily offshore, and he's no conservative.

As I said, these are business decisions that are made no less often by liberal than by conservative CEOs.
Seriously? Ok, here's proof, from Fox news in fact - Kentuckian

See the link below from Fox News in 2004 or you can simply Google outsourcing yourself during those years, 2004 to 2008.

Bush pushed for (and Congress voted for) tax breaks for countries that outsourced, during that time.

What company wouldn't if offered a tax break/incentive?

To be fair, Bush later admitted publicly this hurt our economy, but it was too late.

I thought this was common knowledge or was it one of those things you overlooked in favor of other issues or Obama hatred/blame?

The fact is, Obama was weak and ineffective for dealing with it, but they already KNEW it was hurting the economy because Bush admitted it - and don't forget the crash was October 2008 BEFORE Obama took office.

They knew would tank by the time he took office and he would take the blame - I just can't believe y'all bought it, especially after Bush admitted outsourcing hurt us.

Also myself (and several others mentioned yesterday) the Republican senator from my state, Mitch McConnell, has admitted to voting for tax breaks for companies who outsourced overseas.

And Romney was famously attacked during his campaign for being on the board of companies that outsourced overseas.

Honestly, where are people's memories?
How absolutley horrifying. It's certainly explains a lot about the last decade - in MT.

DEDUCTIBLES TOO HIGH - CINDY

[ In Reply To ..]
Where is that great idea that everyone would have health insurance. Well I have had it for the past 10 years and have saw my deductible go from 250.00 per person to 2500.00 per person. And the insurance doesn't cover anything until the deductible is met. I looked at the marketplace and it was just as bad. I don't see how anyone can afford it. It sucks and the only difference is now we are not just paying for our own health insurance we are paying for anybody else who has no job and gets the insurance for free. We did have it good in the past 10 years, not recently, but now there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

Question about deductibles - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
So far on my policy that has a $2000 deductible. Neither my hubby or I have had to pay anything for our annual physicals. I did not have to pay anything on a mammogram. On our lab tests, I was charged about $100 on a more than $500 lab fee. I pay a small amount on my prescription meds, about $15.00 for a medication that would cost me $300/month.

I have had a lot of services for minimal payment. At this rate, I would have to have major surgery to hit the $2000 deductible. I guess I really do not understand what kind of a policy you have.

Cool beans. I hate my job. Where do I sign up for welfare? - me

I mean, it has to be true, right? That's there's a welfare tree somewhere, you folks talk about it all the time.

and the money will just roll right in. You will have so much, you will have to buy an island, like the Caymans, to store it all.

Just keep on voting Republican, and when your - job is gone, you can collect, too.

Under republicans jobs are created. Under democrats jobs are off-shored or our full time jobs are changed to part time jobs.

Gee, thanks democrats.

No insurance through your employer? - sm

If you're not employed, you will qualify for subsidies. If you don't qualify for subsidies, you can certainly feed your family.

There are subsidies well up into yearly earnings - that I know I was never able to achieve in MT.

[ In Reply To ..]

This post is wrong.....if you are not employed - you don't get subsidies...

[ In Reply To ..]
What you do get is MediCal/Medicaid. To get subsidies, you have to make over the MediCal threshold. In CA, it's $16,100. So, if you make $16,110 for example, you get subsidies to help pay for a silver plan. If you make under $16,100, you qualify for MediCal/Medicaid.

Re: Premiums on the Health Exchange. Sure, I've look at them. Have You? sm - Helper

[ In Reply To ..]
Sure, I've looked at the premiums there. Do you realize that a single adult with an income of up to 46,680 a year gets premium assistance? A family of 4 qualifies for premium assistance if their annual income is up to 95,400. Those are not to shabby of incomes to qualify for premium assistance.

Don't make 46,680 or 95,400 a year? You can get extra help when you chose a silver plan which also helps with your deductibles, out of pocket, medications, etc. It may pay you to take a closer look on the exchange as to what you qualify for and paying particular attention to the silver plans. You get the most assistance with the silver plans which you will not get with the bronze, gold or platinum plans.

Dig a little deeper.

YOU dig a little deeper. - sm

First of all, it's not the same from state to state. If you go to the subsidy calculator online, here's what you get for the State of Washington, annual income $46,000 (UNDER the number you cite) for a single adult, age 50, nonsmoker:

RESULTS

Because your income is more than 400% of the poverty level in Washington, you would not qualify for subsidized exchange coverage. The information below is about unsubsidized exchange coverage.

Household income in 2014: 400% of poverty level

Health Insurance premium in 2014 (for a silver plan, before tax credit): $4,862 per year

You could receive a government tax credit subsidy of up to: $0 per year (which covers 0% of the overall premium)

Amount you pay for the premium: $4,862 per year (which equals 10.57% of your household income and covers 100% of the overall premium)

The average deductible, incidentally, is $4,900 - meaning you pay all those premiums above plus the deductible BEFORE YOU GET A PENNY OF COVERAGE BENEFITS. Bronze plan is only about $1000 less per year (and WAY rotten coverage), again with no subsidies whatsoever.

Yeah - dig deeper. And by the way - some of the subsidies that some families get are going to turn out to be taxable.

If you are single and making $46,000 per year - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
You should fork out the insurance premium without whining. The subsidies are for people who would not be able to afford insurance without the subsidy.

I would be mad if I had to pay for you, too, in the above situation.
Not quite following the conversation, are you? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I wasn't saying I should get subsidies. I was simply responding to the person above my post who said that people making over $46,000 a year are eligible for subsidies, when they're not.

I would also like to point out that all...sm - Rosie

health insurance policies are required by the ACA law (Obamacare) to provide preventative health care such as physical exams, Pap smears, mammograms, vaccinations, etc. for no additional fee, so you do receive benefits before reaching your deductible.
Funny, thank you. I JUST asked that question above - nm
[ In Reply To ..]

Yes, it is the same from state to state, and you are using the wrong figures. sm - Helper

[ In Reply To ..]
The figures that I referenced are income figures for 2015, and the calculator being currently used is for 2014 income levels which cut off subsidies somewhere in the range of 45,400 for a single person.

Those calculation will change as of 11/15/2014, and a person in Washington state, or in any state of the union, will get a subsidy provided their income for a single person is 46,679 annually or less. When you use the calculations which will be provided 11/15/2014 you will see that that a person qualifies for the same subsidy no matter what state they reside in and yes, that person in Washington state in your example will qualify for one.

You will need to wait until 11/15/2014 for those updated income figures.

And anyone that qualifies for a subsidy, do look into the Silver Plans. Those are the plans that have additional assistance with deductibles, out of pocket, medications, etc. My deductible is 500.00 annually, and my out of pocket max is 2,000 annually. Those plans are available in the Silver Plans and unless your income is pretty high they don't cost a fortune.

There are many people on this venue that need help due to declining MT wages. Don't let your loathing of the ACA (Obamacare) stand in your way of trying to aid your fellow MTs. Obamacare helps millions afford coverage that they would not be able to afford otherwise, including MTs with declining wages.
