Before Obamacare and after Obamacare

Posted: Jan 15, 2014

Just this week my medical reports have included:

1.  A suicide attempt by a patient who was despondent over the hospital bills that had accrued last year (before Obamacare).  Patient is still recovering from illness and was depressed about not being able to pay bills.

2.  A patient who was uninsured who had probably suffered a ruptured appendix a couple of months ago (before Obamacare) and went untreated.  Patient now admitted for an abdominal abscess.  After surgery (1 day in-patient) patient left the hospital against medical advice because of no insurance.  The doc stated he would recommend at least a 4 or 5 day stay.   This patient needs Obamacare.  Who can live with a ruptured appendix and not seek treatment?

3.  Finally, a good story.  A middle-aged patient who was unemployed because of back pain now had needed surgery because the patient now has insurance.  Surgery had been scheduled for last year but patient delayed it until insurance kicked in.  (After Obamacare).

I think Obamacare is going to make a huge difference in people's lives.

confusion in the beginning as there were when Medicare, and later and Medicare part D, were rolled out, but there will be many more good stories and fewer and fewer complaints as time goes by. I don't hear of anyone being willing to give up their Medicare do you? I am hopeful that all of us will be better off for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which I proudly refer to as Obamacare. Just the fact that no one can be turned down or charged higher rates because they have a preexisting condition is huge. Of course people who were rolling the dice and doing without insurance, especially young people, are very unhappy. Guess who has been paying their medical bills all along when they have a catastrophic accident or illness? Medicaid usually takes over for them and we all pay the bill, or the hospital sometimes eats the bill or most of it.

I am in favor of Medicare for all with everyone receiving the same benefits, paying the same premium, and the freedom to purchase supplemental policies from private insurance companies to cover costs not covered by Medicare.

Not interested in what you think -makes no sense - new flash....Medicare Part was not mandatory

Let us not forget the close to 6-million policies cancelled - because of Obamacare, not to

mention the outrageous premiums, massive increase in out of pocket expenses, narrow networks of care, limited drugs on the Obamacare formularies, to name a few. My insurance premium went from $ 168.00 to $ 645.00...now more than my mortgage. Notice how OP just skipped right over the reality of Obamacare to give your 3, count 'em 3, success stories. It's called deflection and the Libs are pathetic in their attempt to put lipstick on this pig.

And more cancellations to come, but you keep singing about the 3 successes and screw the millions harmed daily by Obamacare.

I am just relating 3 patients that I did reports on today. I am not a national survey. Most of the patients I do reports on, I have no idea if they have insurance or not. If you were an MT, you would know that sometimes a doc discusses things (as above) because they are pertinent to the case. Before Obamacare, I would estimate I had one report a day regarding someone who had delayed care or did not get their prescription refilled because of no insurance. This was usually commented on in the context that now the patient's condition had worsened due to delay or lack of care. Yeah, 3 out of millions and I am just one person.

like I said, a friend of mine told me this - he didn't say vial/shot, just that he was in trouble cost-wise - sry I wasn't CLEAR on the exact dosage - the POINT TO BE MADE is costs are going through the roof - plus a possible bailout paid by US, the lowly taxpayer, for the insurance companies because they cannot make it in this stupid idiotic healthcare act - which was "his" plan all along - get rid of the insurance companies and let govt take over - cuz they sure are good with social security, medicare, the post office, you name it - the govt takes over and it goes to crap.. sad...so yes, I am an MT, a mom, a grandmother, and one who is against govt overreach into our lives!

I just transcribed a report... - sm

Obamacare Meltdown Has Arrived. Tennessee Is Ground Zero For Obamacare'sOct 07, 2016
last month the state insurance commissioner, Julie Mix McPeak, approved premium increases of up to 62% in a bid to save the exchange set up under the Affordable Care Act. “I would characterize the exchange market in Tennessee as very near collapse,” she said. Then last week BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee announced it would leave three of the state’s largest exchange markets—Nashville, Memphis and Knoxville. “We have experienced losses approaching $500 million over the course of ...

Obamacare Is Failing From Behind... His Goals For ObamacareJul 20, 2016
1) Have it collapse so that single payer can be implemented amidst the ensuing chaos. 2) Have that happen on somebody else’s watch. Obamacare was designed to fail so the Democrats could “reform” it with complete government provided socialized medicine. That is the entire purpose for it. Obamacare is designed to collapse so they can backfill the vacuum with government run socialized medicine. Eventually, everyone will be on some form of Medicare. I believe that was one of Bernie’ ...

This Is My Take On Obamacare For Oct 03, 2013
So this is what I have learned.   After listening about the new health insurance, this is what I know. There are 3 levels of care/cost. Well after listening to a question and answer discussion on line program coming out of Sioux Falls, South Dakota hospital systems, it scared me greatly. If all the young people join this program, it will not help the older people who live on a fixed inc ...

When discussing the ACA or Obamacare, whichever you call it, remember that it is literally like comparing apples and oranges (and grapes, pineapple and maybe even potatoes).  Each state has different prices and different plans from the federal plan.  Some states now have only one company offering a plan through their state exchange.  Each plan has a different monthly cost, a different deductable and it goes on and on and on.  The requirements are different from state to state ...

IC MTs And ObamacareJan 06, 2017
For those MTs on here cheering the repeal of Obamacare keep in mind that many of your fellow IC MTs are on Obamacare currently and with health issues.  They were unable to secure insurance prior to the ACA and today are covered for their health issues at an affordable rate.   You write of soaring premiums under Obamacare but fail to take into consideration the cost of individual health insurance rates in your "free market."  Those rates for me were over $1,200 per month for 1 ind ...
