Perhaps Michelle can continue to attack obesity and American's health issues while Barack smokes and drinks his special beer.

There's too much work to be done, making sure the vote gets out and that our First Family gets their second term, four more years they have earned and more than deserve. The time has come to climb out of the mud pit and into the light.
I like her so much, I stayed up just to see her. My other - favorite was heroine Lilly Ledbetter.

Those 10 years of her life defined by her fight all the up through the courts cannot have been pleasant. Tough lady. Powerful speech.
Not in me to worship anyone, but I do like them. BTW, - also liked how she looked in that pretty dress.NM

Not a thing wrong with combating obesity. Not a thing wrong with all things in moderation. I eat organic, and I smoke. Drives you crazy, doesn't it?
Not really. We have freedom - sm

to do those things. Just like I have freedom to do my daily exercise and then go to Taco Bell and get a grilled stuff burrito. LOL
My only thought about your comment would be...how in the world do you afford that? I've looked at organic food and the price is outrageous. Let alone the price of a pack of cigarettes. So thankful I don't smoke. I'd go broke.

There is a Whole Foods nearby. The food there does not cost more than in a standard market. That's all I care to share about the way I spend my money, your disingenuous commentary notwithstanding.

we've known him to start to cry in public twice that I remember. Once was at a small gathering when he was talking about running for president; Michelle knew he was thinking of what it would mean to his family and went over and hugged him, and they both ended up having to pull themselves back together. The other was the day he was elected president and spoke briefly about his grandmother, who had died just the day before.

They merely fact check and spin for the other party while praising their own. Gee...doesn't everyone just LOVE Michelle. She so gets it. That is why she has no problem spending our money on luxury vacations. She totally gets the heartache of those who can't afford a meal while she serves up food for the homeless wearing shoes that cost over $500. She totally gets those people who cannot afford a good education for their kids while her kids enjoy an excellent education at private school.
I get so tired of how the Obama's get it and the Romney's don't. If the Obama's really got it, they would show more respect for our taxpayer dollars and try and spend as little as they can until they fix our economy. If I were in the WH, I would feel absolutely guilty spending taxpayer dollars to go to a broadway show in NY while I knew my country was suffering economically.
They may have come from a poorer background than the Romney's...but their success in life has blinded them to what their lives used to be and how people are suffering now. So..take another vacation, have another beer summit, go for another round of golf, etc. As Pres Obama said...we must all make sacrifices. So...when do the Obama's make theirs?
The Obamas.... - Cassie

...DID pay their dues. They've made sacrifices. You must've missed the part of Michelle's speech where she talked about their backgrounds.
As a Democrat, I don't begrudge ANYONE making money and spending lots of it. There's not a thing wrong with earning money. There's not a thing wrong with wearing expensive clothes that you've earned the money to buy.
There's also not a thing wrong with having the opinion that someone who has never known want and has never known financial struggle or sacrifice might not have the kind of empathy for the struggling middle class that we want making decisions for us. Don't you think we have the right to make that call and decide which candidate we want to vote for, as do you?
I don't have a problem with the Obama's - sm

spending their own money. It is the amount of taxpayer dollars they have spent with their vacations, outings, etc. If you have the money, by all means...spend all you want...but don't spend mine as well.
How many times has Ann Romney been criticized for not getting it because she wore a blouse that cost a lot of money? I hear people on here dog her all the time because she has spent HER money on things.
Just because someone came from a poorer background and has lived the American Dream...doesn't mean they have the formula to make the rest of country prosper. For 1, you cannot spent your way out of debt. For 2, you cannot afford to provide everything for everyone no matter how much you tax the rich.
This whole campaign based on hope is false hope. As the old saying goes, you can hope in way hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up faster.
Hmmm, I haven't done the full.... - Cassie

...research, but I was under the impression that personal, family vacations were paid for by the First Families themselves....in this case, the Obamas. I think I've heard that specifically about their trips to Hawaii when they go strictly for family occasions and personal vacations--that the Obamas pay for their own costs. Again, though--I haven't done any "investigation" about that.
If the Romneys happen to become the First Family, do you suppose they're going to pay out of their own pockets for every function the White House puts on, every event they host in a presidential capacity, things like the White House Easter Egg Roll, Christmas tree lighting, etc? Granted, some of these events are festive and "fun"; but unless they want to shut them down completely, these are things that have traditionally been done by both Dem and Repub administrations.
Are there specific "vacations, outings, etc.," that you have in mind that the Obamas have been on which you and I have paid for as taxpayers? Yes, taxes pay for Secret Service protection and Air Force One wherever the president goes, but it has been thus for a long, long time....not just under the Obamas. "We" paid for a lot of Sec Serv and AF1 flights for every brush-clearing trip to the Crawford ranch for the Bushes. Did you object to those, too?
BTW, I, for one, have NEVER criticized Ann Romney's expensive clothes or other things. If I had her money, I'd wear beautiful clothes and have other niceties of life, too. I don't begrudge the Romneys the money they've earned, whether it be by laboring for it or earning it on honest investments. That doesn't change my mind, though, about feeling that they don't have a clue about what it means to worry about having enough money to buy groceries 'til the end of the month.

if they were encouraging people to do the same. Work any job you can to pay the bills and care for your kids. Don't stay home because a job is beneath you while you collect a check for government cheese. If the Obama's are so proud of the hard work that their parents did, why do they punish the successful...telling us we didn't built that. If more people didn't expect entitlements, perhaps they would have the pride her father did and get off of their butts and be self reliant. I cannot imagine a hard working man person would endorse those who want a nanny state and that is what we are becoming.
