Rand Paul and Christie politicizing measles vaccine citing "choice"

It is not a choice - when it affects other people

with consequences up to and including death. This is nothing to politicize. So stupid.

If you are already immunized against - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
measles, why would you worry about getting them from someone who isn't. Won't the immunization protect you? Anything that someone else puts in your body should always be a choice by you.

Unimmunized people are no risk to those that...sm - scribe

have had the measles or those that have been immunized. If someone not immunized contracts the measles they are a risk to others that are not immunized including babies under one year old, people with autoimmune diseases, and people undergoing chemotherapy in whom immunization is contraindicated.
Obama said 'Get your kids vaccinated' - so obviously you should not
[ In Reply To ..]
Impeach!

Babies under 1 y/o - cannot be vaccinated

[ In Reply To ..]
so can be infected and potentially die. I don't just think about myself.

For all the running scared.... - TrampledUnderfoot

It wasn't all that long ago that there was no measles vaccine and we (almost) ALL got measles. And we survived.

If Christie and Paul - were for the vaccine

[ In Reply To ..]
you guys would be on here demanding that everyone be vaccinated.

Perhaps we were just lucky - see link

I really don't understand the logic of "It didn't happen to me, thus it won't happen to anyone else." How about, what if you had been one of the 700 deaths in 1951-1952, or your sister or brother?

I have been close friends with people who contracted polio and were right on the cusp of that vaccination.

Not everyone survived measles intact. It can - lead to heart disease, blindness, etc.

[ In Reply To ..]
I had it and was lucky - no lasting physical effects, though the 2 weeks of second grade I missed changed my school experience forever. After that I was always behind in class, always berated by the teacher for being behind, and because of it, I was always trying any way I could possibly find to avoid going to school. So there was a lasting problem with school that was a direct result.

Not only that, but I remember being sick with measles. I was VERY sick, didn't even get out of bed.. just wanted to watch TV. But I couldn't do that, either. My eyes were so sensitive I couldn't stand to have the light on, so I lay in a darkened room. I wasn't allowed to read or watch TV because of the risk of measles-related eye damage. So I couldn't keep up with my schoolwork while at home, either.

All this happened to me - a HEALTHY, robust kid. I can only imagine what this disease might do to a child with a weakened immune system.

Some Survived, some didn't - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
Some were blinded, some were left deaf. Some were left sterile.

Does anyone care to see this happen again?

Same with polio. Anyone care to live in an iron lung again if they survive?

I certainly wouldn't. Not only was that "Doctor" that Jenny McCarthy and her group use as truth, debunked, he was also stripped of his medical license!

TY, Truthhurts - I didnt know

[ In Reply To ..]
about Jenny McCarthy's doctor being debunked, but I'm glad to hear it. Ms. McCarthy has done a lot of damage.

The media is doing the politicizing... - they are asking the question

[ In Reply To ..]
The media is asking the question - next question - Do you believe in circumcision? Silly reporters.....

It is still a choice in our country whether to get vaccinations - personally, I think anyone who doesn't is wrong, but both Christie and Paul's point was - it isn't against the law not to vaccinate - parents have the first line at that decision - hopefully, they will make the right decision -

Kids always had to be vaccinated to go to school - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
Has that now changed? If so, I think it's ridiculous. Putting other people at risk is selfish, including kids.

Also, measles can also cause brain damage. Any parent who decides their 'opinion' is more important than the life of their children is, IMHO, selfish and ignorant.

In my state ~ sm - Anoni~

[ In Reply To ..]
If you personally don't want your kids vaccinated a doctor has to sign a form saying he/she has explained the risks and parents have elected not to vaccinate.

Same if there are true medical reasons not to give the vaccinations.

For religious reasons...the parent has to fill out a form.

Home schooled kids are exempt unless they decide to go to college.

Unfortunately there are plenty of ways to get around the school issue. :(
I think religion shouldn't be an excuse for non- - vaccination, either. But if they - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
MUST bow down to people's stupid religious beliefs, then those kids should at least be required to be home-schooled.

Where do you draw the line on parental "choice"?...sm - scribe

[ In Reply To ..]
Should a parent be allowed to choose not to have chemotherapy if their child is diagnosed with cancer? Measles is serious, side effects like encephalitis and pneumonia, sometimes resulting in death, as well as deafness, and is not just a benign childhood disease as some would have you believe.

I think they're both idiots. Next they'll be - against the polio vaccine.

Both Christie and Paul's children are vaccinated - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
This is one time that I totally agree with Obama when he said, "“you should get your kids vaccinated…The science is, you know, pretty indisputable.”

I don't care for Rand Paul. I am a little shocked at Christie's statement though, because it is required for kids to be vaccinated in NJ to go to school.

I think it should be a choice - Trigger Happy

[ In Reply To ..]
however, I would like to think that parents would be smart enough to choose to vaccinate their children. I am a mother of an 11 y/o autistic son. My son was who he is since the day he was born. There was no change in him after the MMR shot. My daughter is 5 and does not have autism and I had her vaccinated as well.

Even if vaccines caused autism (and I'm not saying that they do) I'd rather have an autistic child than a dead child.

McCain quoted heavily from a Wall Street Journal editorial that slammed Paul’s filibuster on the Obama Administration’s drone use, including a line that said “If Mr. Paul wants to be taken seriously, he needs to do more than pull political stunts that fire up impressionable libertarian kids in college dorms.” McCain called Paul’s concern that the government could kill any American with a drone “totally unfounded.”  Graham also chided his fellow Re ...

Rand Paul Is Wrong. What Trump Did Is Distinctly NOTApr 08, 2017
More than 125 times in our history, Presidents (including in recent times Reagan, Clinton, Bush, Obama and Trump) have taken military actions without the approval of Congress.  Obama is an interesting case in point.  He sought approval from Congress to launch attacks in Libya, failed to get it and then launched the attacks anyway, arguing that he had the Constitutional and legal authority to do so (which he did).  Two years later, after the chemical attacks in Syria, Obama's ...

Rumors Of Paul Ryan And Chris Christie Joining Pres. RaceAug 16, 2011

German Federal Supreme Court: Measles Is NOT A VirusJan 26, 2017
This is the strangest vaccine story I have ever come across.  Several scientists proved successfully in Germany that measles is NOT caused by a virus.  The case was heard before the German Federal Supreme Court (equivalent of our U.S. SupremeCourt).  The plaintiff was a biologist, and he was awarded monetary damages. Reseachers in the past decades committed a critical mistake:  They used no controls.  As a result, components of regular cells were misidentified as vira ...
