An African holiday resort popular with Western tourists has been stormed by gunmen with hostages reportedly being taken. Shots were heard by local residents near Le Campement Kangaba, to the eastern edge of the Malian capital Bamako, with plumes of smoke also seen billowing into the air... Officials have said it is believed that the attack was carried out by jihadists, but it is not yet known if there were any casualties. ;

Suspected jihadists in the West African country of Mali have attacked a luxury resort popular with foreigners on the outskirts of the country's capital, a security official told the Associated Press.
The official with the U.N. mission known as MINUSMA, said people had been killed and wounded but gave no immediate toll. The AFP news agency reported that at least two people had died.
There also were believed to be hostages in the luxury Campement de Kangaba resort area near Bamako Sunday.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to journalists.
Officials from the French military mission in Mali, the European Union and the U.N. also were there this weekend, he added.
Residents living near the resort told Sky News that shots were fired while smoke could be seen in the air.
"Security forces are in place. Campement Kangaba is blocked off and an operation is under way," said Baba Cisse, a spokesman for Mali's security ministry.
Sunday's violence came about a week after the U.S. State Department warned of "possible future attacks on Western diplomatic missions, other locations in Bamako that Westerners frequent."
Mali has been fighting a jihadist insurgency for several years, with Islamist fighters active in the country's northern and central regions.
In November 2015, at least 20 people died in a siege at the luxury Radisson Blu hotel in Bamako.
The attack was claimed by Al Qaeda's North African affiliate, Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).

When I first heard about it, I didn't know if it was a hate - crime, a guy mad at his wife,

No one knew if it was maybe ISIS inspired, but I doubt it because the Finbury Park Mosque has links to radical Islam.

The mosque became notorious when Abu Hamza al-Masri became the imam in 1997. Hamza, who had one eye and no hands and used hook devices, lied that the injuries were suffered when he fought for al-Qaeda against Russian forces in Afghanistan. He preached a strict interpretation of Islamic law and was outspoken about acts of terrorism.
In a sermon he spoke about the need for Jihad: “Allah likes those who believe in Him who kill those who do not believe in Him. Allah likes that. So if you Muslims don’t like that because you hate the blood, there is something wrong with you.”
The mosque became a meeting point for militant Islam’s most notorious figures. Zacarias Moussaoui, 9/11’s alleged 20th hijacker, and shoe bomber Richard Reid, were among those to attend the mosque.
More than 100 officers from London Metropolitan Police raided and shut down the mosque in 2003 over the alleged bioterrorism plot to attack the London Underground rail system.
classified US documents released by Wikileaks in April 2011 said the mosque has served as a “haven” for Islamic extremists. According to the files, 35 men has passed through Finsbury Park Mosque before being sent to fight against allied forces in Afghanistan.
