Holiday squabble

Posted: May 13, 2013

I have two grown 30+ year old sons who have jealousy and rivalry issues.  One son invited me, their step-dad, his sister, and his grandmother to lunch for Mother's Day.  I accepted and asked if his brother was invited and he said no.  I thought maybe my other son would be at his in-laws, but he wasn't.  He got hurt.  I tried to make other plans with him in the afternoon, but he was hurt and rude.  I finally told the oldest son that I would have to cancel lunch, that I couldn't have Mother's Day with two thirds of my children while the other lives right in the same town.  They BOTH proceeded to begin a texting war and called me names and the oldest even said "F-you" to ME on Mother's Day.  I cried all afternoon.  It ruined Mother's Day for my teenage daughter.  She asked her brothers to "grow up" and they (via texts --- nobody is rude in person anymore) called her names including the "B" word and berated her.  All of this was after we had gone to CHURCH.  Prayer is the only thing I believe can help.  I think they are selfish men with sin in their hearts and God can change them because I sure can't.  Thank you.

horrible holidays - grown to hate holidays

[ In Reply To ..]
I have the same issues with two of my daughters. I used to love the holidays, big gatherings, fun, loved having entire family over. Now I hate the holidays and it always ends up in a huge arguement and both of them mad at me. They absolutely refuse to sit in a room together at any time, birthdays, holidays or just get togethers, so everything has to be done separately. When either of them have birthdays for their family they don't invite the other family and since I am going they get mad at me. I have tried to explain to them this is their arguement and they need to solve it themselves (they are both in their 30s), that mommy is not solving it for them but if I had too then they both need to be turned over my knee and given a shift spanking and kick in the butt. That definitely did not help the situation but too bad. I agree with you completely, they are selfish and immature. For myself I am about ready to say stay at your house for the holidays and I will stay at mine and just drop the gifts off.

This has been ongoing for the past 7 years and I wish I knew how to nip this in the bud but I don't. Last Thanksgiving I went to Florida to visit my son so I wouldn't have to go through that again.

Holidays were always such a big thing in my family and now I dread them. I have prayed to God and asked for help with this situation but so far nothing.

I have spent many holidays or birthdays with just me and my husband because of this fight and believe me they were at least quiet. In fact when my husband and I got married, my oldest daughter would not let her children come or be in the my wedding nor did her family come to my wedding because of this nasty fight. They are never wrong, its always the other one that did something to tick off the other one and I feel like I am raising 2 year olds again.

I wish I had an answer for you but as you can see I don't have one. Only thing I can think of is to disown both of them and they are coming real close to that. It will kill me because then I won't get to see my grandkids anymore but I can't stand this fighting any more.

Well - Hmmm

Obviously, they have no respect for their mother. I would reckon this is not the first time you called them selfish men with sins in their heart. That line is sure to win them over, eh? I'd have a few choice words for you, too, mom if that's your attitude. You don't sound particularly lovable or deserving of any respect.

I know, you're going to pray for me for my hate in my heart. Okay. I am not going to pray for you, because you are obviously perfect and don't need anybody's help.

No it was the first time - I called them that

and I sure don't get your anger. This is a prayer request board and that was what I asked for. If you don't want to pray for me, don't. I suspicion it wouldn't be heard even if you did.

What I Learned This Holiday About Next Holiday ...Dec 27, 2009
I learned I will not purchase any gifts from the "wish lists" of the youth in our family.  Yes, this includes my own kids. Only 1 out of the 4 had any surprises at all in their gifts.  Mind you, these 4 range in age from 9 to 24 years.  The 24yo was surprised.  The other 3 knew exactly what they were getting - recognized the boxes - made such statements about knowing all their gifts.  Not hateful, not ungrateful but expectant. The 2 youngest are my nephews.  Neith ...

Holiday SeasonNov 28, 2009
I get so resentful around this time of the year.  All the expectations!  It makes it hard to enjoy it.  Feeling like everything has to be perfect.  This year, I am so broke I'm not going to be able to have one of those "perfect" Christmases.  And I resent that.  Gosh, I wish it could just be another day!!!!  ...

Holiday Gift GivingNov 08, 2011
ONE GREAT IDEA!!! Christmas & Chanukah 2011 -- Birth of a New TraditionAs the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods -- merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor. This year will be different. This year Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse that, at giftgiving time, nothing can be found that is produced by A ...

Holiday Tipping QuestionNov 21, 2012
Here's my question - The owner of the salon where I get my hair cut and colored is the one who does my hair 95% of the time.  Her prices are very reasonable for the area where I live, about half the cost of other places around.  I've always tipped in the past, which she often refuses or gives me free product in return, and yes, I know you're not technically supposed to tip the owner of the salon, but I've always felt like you tip for good service.  I'm won ...

I have 3 recipes I want to share that I make for the holiday.  I share these each year and people have liked them.  These are recipes that I can sit and eat the whole thing by myself. :-) My Grandma's jello salad. - This is one of the most refreshing things to add to the menu.  It's not a holiday without it. 1 pkg large jello (I swear by black cherry, my mom swore by lemon - both are good). 1 pkg cream cheese 1 can crushed pineapple. 2 cups boiling water Soften the ...

If You Are Opting Out Of Holiday Commercialism This YearOct 23, 2013
Since the holiday season is only about 2 months from now, I wanted to share this great idea that was just passed along to me from a friend. If you, or someone you know is bowing out of the commercialism and materialism of the holiday season by saying "no more stuff", you can register on the SoKind Registry so that the gift-giver instead can give "experiences" like various types of lessons (cooking, music, etc), national park passes, zoo memberships, classes to learn a new skill, hot balloon ride ...

Vent About My Hubby During This Wonderful Holiday Season ... (sm)Dec 23, 2010
Every year at Christmas my hubby is able to take two weeks off, which is wonderful for him but is beginning to stink for me.  By the time his vacation is over I will be extremely resentful towards him and I hate that.  In years past he has always done everything he can to help me out while I am working, cleaning the house, wrapping presents, picking up little odd and end gifts, etc.  However, this year all he has done is lay on the couch and sleep after sleeping until 11:00 every ...

Hillary Off Campaign Trail For 'drug Holiday'Oct 19, 2016
http://mobile.wnd.com/2016/10/hillary-off-campaign-trail-for-drug-holiday/ “A ‘drug holiday’ is often prescribed for Parkinson’s disease patients,” Noel explained to WND. “The problem is that Parkinson’s patients need increased doses of their medication as the disease progresses.” A drug holiday, he said, would “allow her physicians to get her drug-free for a while, so she can be on lower doses when the drugs are restarted.” “She needs to be able to come on stage a ...

Sarah Palin Questions Obama White House Holiday Card Dec 22, 2011
Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (R) attacked the White House holiday card in an article on Fox News Radio. The front of the card shows the Obamas' dog, Bo, sitting in a very Christmas-like setting, with a fireplace decorated with wreaths and red ribbons, and a table with a poinsettia plant and presents. "From our family to yours, may your holidays shine with the light of the season," reads the inside of the card, which is signed by the Obamas (including Bo). Palin characterized ...
