Gay marriage helps economy

It's now legal in DC, woot! Check out the last paragraph for the immediate economic impact.

37 years since the legalization of abortion and it still leaves a very nasty taste in our mouths and is not accepted as a good choice/behavior. The same will bode true for homosexual "marriage" regardless of the impact on the economy.

And both are a perfect example of personal - issues the government

[ In Reply To ..]
needs to stay out of. Thought the righties were FOR small government and keeping them out of our personal lives???? Oh, that's right. Except for when righties disagree with the choice. Then, government is fine. Forgot for a moment.

Some choices....sm - Mother Theresa

are so perverted/abnormal and brutal that someone has to step in and take control. Abortion takes away the rights of one human and, in fact, the life of that human. Sexual choices, though perverted, should be at the individual's discretion and not the government's; however, when the individual/individuals demand their choices be construed as normal and go to great lengths to ensure their behaviors are considered "acceptable" by all humanity, then that's where most draw the line. There will always be evil men who will enact laws that are not good for society. No one is disagreeing with your right to commit bizarre sexual behaviors but you have no right to demand acceptance of that behavior. Even the government can't help you with that qwest, no matter how many laws are passed. Homosexual "marriage", as legal as it may be, will never be accepted as normal/good/wholesome, etc. And that's the "righties" choice to believe. ;-)
In YOUR opinion! It is a personal choice, like - it or not, and it is legal
[ In Reply To ..]
and it is none of yours or mine or anyone elses business. The people involved in gay relationships are human beings who are wired differently the "straight" population. Notice, I did not say wrong, or strange, or abnormal, or in your words "evil". What they do is between two consenting adults, involves no one else. For me it is "normal" for those people, just as being straight is "normal" for me.

Regarding abortion, how is that abortion is so abhorrent because it takes away the life of a human but war is okay and the death penalty are okay? To me, to call oneself "pro-life" and still support things like wars, which kill not only our soidiers and that of our opposition, but a lot of innocent people who are just in the wrong place at the wrong time (I have always hated that term "collateral damage"- like it somehow lessens the fact that innocent people are dying) or support the death penalty. IMHO, this is hypocracy at it's finest.
sm... - Mother Theresa
[ In Reply To ..]
I say it is wrong because God says it is and that's the bottom line for me. You are right. It is not my business what two consenting adults do. I never said it was but I DO have the right to believe that this behavior is wrong. So far...I still live in a free country where I am free to believe what God tells us. I don't think I said that war was "ok." You said that. But I do believe we have to defend this country from foreign enemies. Nothing hypocritical there.
You didn't just say that did you? - Lillybell
[ In Reply To ..]
"Some choices are so perverted/abnormal and brutal that someone has to step in and take control"????? Egads! I guess you did say that. Just who do think should be appointed to "step in and take control"? Boy, I thought the dark ages were over. This conversation has been done over and over and over. I can't believe there are some people who actually think like that. I grew up in a very very conservative town. My uncle is now a minister and he performs weddings. Even gay weddings. He told me, while it's not my choice of way to live, that does not give me the right to tell people they can't live like that. He said we do not know why certain things happen, but there is a plan for all of us, and it's not our place to judge. God loves everyone. What I find so abnormal is the people who go to church to sit and be told how to think and act by their worship leader that they come back and spew that hatred thinking that if people don't live the way they do that it's "abnormal".

What is "abnormal/perverted" to one person is their own personal opinion. And you know that saying...."Opinions are like ____. Everyone has one".

Whether a man and woman, or two men or two woman get married is nobody's business but their own, the person performing the ceremony and the guests they invite to their wedding. If they all attend and accept them then that's the only thing that's important. The true evil are in the ones who come out and publicly tell people how "wrong" or "abnormal" it is. People should accept people for who they are and the good they do. Gay marriage is accepted, is normal, and the evil lies in those who publicly profess otherwise.

This is the year 2010, not 1610.
The Dark Ages...sm - Mother Theresa

I think in a country where we are free to murder our young...that's pretty comparable to the Dark Ages.

Your uncle is not a man of God, IMO. I guess God must be truly evil because He is the One who tells us this is wrong. I'm sticking by Him. You cannot serve God and man. I choose God.

[ In Reply To ..]
Being a feminist and loving men at the same time are not mutually exclusive concepts, except in the fringiest corners of the blogosphere. This may come as quite a shock to you, but there are plenty of men around who admire progressive women. I've been very blessed to have attracted more than my share.

Guess you nailed me. I was already a grown woman when the voices of feminism and their struggles finally began to bear fruit after centuries of struggle. I remember exactly how it felt to be subjected to the masters-of-our-fates mentality. I also remember how persistent and brave some of the earlier members of the resistance movements were and how much scarlet letter scorn they endured (quite similar to your impotent attempt), not to mention bloody protests, injuries, incarcerations and fatalities along the road to racial, gender, national origin and sexual preference equality.

Condemn them if you like and dismiss the fact that they fought on your behalf, but do not expect them to sit idly by and allow you to set us back 100 years or so. Not on their watch.
Awfully presumptuous, don't you think, using the moniker "Mother Theresa"? - Really?

It is you who are being judgmental by calling - these people "evil"
[ In Reply To ..]
These are people who are living life the way "God" made them. To use "God" as a way to justify that kind of attitude another group of human beings who do no harm to others and call them evil-that is just sad and bigoted. This is exactly the type of post I was referring to earlier when I mentioned the types of attitudes that turn my stomach in their self-righteousness and sureness that they are right while reacting to another group of people this way. I am out of this discussion. I am tolerant of just about anybody, except people who use God to justify their own bigotry. How some of you will continue the discussion for me and attempt to make this person understand where the "evil" is the attitude she/he is exhibing here.

How many MDs have been murdered vs innocent babies in the womb? - Anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Answer: A handful vs over 40 million. Do you really think those male MDs really cared all that much about women's reproductive rights? Face it, honey, it's all about the money.

It's an over 5 billion dollar industry that is entirely unregulated.

I don't condone what those few vigilantes did when they resorted to violence against the abortionists...but those babies didn't deserve to be killed either.
My uncle most certainly is a man of God - Lillybell
[ In Reply To ..]
And to say otherwise is certainly not very "christian". He preaches and he lives a good life. He marries people and he makes people happy. He lives his life and cares for his family the way he believes God wants him to. For you to come back with such words throughout all these posts....well all I have to say is I'm glad your god is not my God. My God/Creator is loving. He loves all people. It sounds like yours does not.

I have no idea what you are talking about murdering young. I don't think I said anything about that in my post.

But sorry, I will stick with my church and my God and my uncle. I would hate to be involved in the evil, hate filled, and Puritan life you and your god belong to.
You got that right, Lillybell. Your uncle sounds very kind - and wise. Wish we could clone him. nm

you do. And as far as your "God" goes, if that is truly what he represents, I would want no part of it anyway. Personally, I suspect that the problem really is just over zealous so-called "Christians" without a clue who are just regurgitating what they are told. Personally, I would put my money on Lillybell's uncle in a heartbeat with his acceptance of others and open heart over the pseudo-"Christianity" that you are claiming with bigotry, closed-mindedness and complete lack of understanding.

My MarriageJun 27, 2015
So I woke up this morning and took stock of my quarter-century old heterosexual marriage, in light of yesterday's historic ruling by the SCOTUS. The sanctity of my marriage appears entirely unaffected. Oh, and the nation hasn't been destroyed by some cataclysmic event as a resul ...
