Asked for a copy of my marriage certificate?
Posted: Mar 23, 2012
I have been married for 30+ years. I just received a form from the health iinsurance carrier requesting a copy of my marriage certificate to prove I can be covered under the family policy. Huh? This is the first time in 30 years I have been asked for it.
The requesting form cites a new law passed in my state passed last summer. The form says they have hired a special auditing form to do this audit. Oh yes, now it makes sense. Republican state legislature is passing more bills to take away our rights and add to the cost of government.
Perhaps the insurance company does not like recent medical test results. Perhaps they are finding another way to deny care. I don't know who to hate more, Republicans or insurance companies.
;
Hate more? Try the Dems and the - regs under Obamacare
[ In Reply To ..]
You aint seen nothing yet. Nothing wrong with any business eliminating fraud. I know the law you are referring to. People have LIED to get family discounts they were not entitled to, thereby cheating another legitimate person from receiving them. Makes complete sense to get rid of the liars and cheaters to benefit those actually doing what they are supposed to for the benefits.
If this is so distrubing to you, cannot wait to see your hair catch on fire when Obamacare kicks in with 92 NEW TAXES, FINES AND/OR IMPRISONMENT if you do not carry the insurance that Obamacare dictates, not to mention the fact that literally anyone in the IRS, HHS and more than 500+ new bureaucratic offices will have access to every single aspect of your health insurance, health care and treatment prescribed by your doctor (if it is approved by Obamacare). Yeah....that makes a whole lot more sense than providing 1 page of proof for the benefit of a family plan. Geeeez, what twisted reasoning just to slam Repubs. Just sayin'
Thanks to Obamacare...sm - oldtimer

her insurance company cannot drop her because of recent medical tests. Being asked to provide your marriage certificate after 30 years is actually amusing.
No thanks to Obamacare - Never was cancelled because of "tests"
[ In Reply To ..]
Never had my insurance cancelled despite, "tests", surgery and other treatments in 35+ years. My insurance was OUTLAWED and cancelled as a result directly due to Obamacare. Pretty clear you have not read Obamacare and have absolutely no idea what is coming down the pike for you. Get a seat belt. Obamacare DID NOT address what needed addressing, just exercises control. The Dems' mantra and talking points don't improve Obamacare and Obamacare has nothing to do with your health. There are 59% of Americans that GET IT and want it repealed because they actually understand the law. Not so for most on this board.
Just because your insurance has not been cancelled...s, - VTMT
[ In Reply To ..]
does not mean others have not been. Under "Obamacare" no ones health insurance will be allowed to be cancelled except for non payment of premium. What is bad about that?
Your wrong VTMT - Insurance is cancelled
[ In Reply To ..]
You are wrong in your assumptions. Insurance IS being cancelled and mine was along with several hundred others using the same policy. That's the problem with people on this board that DO NOT READ WHAT IS CONTAINED IN OBAMACARE and rely only on the dems/libs talking points.
Obamacare dictates what coverage is permissible, dictates what policies they "approve" (read the bill). If Obamacare does not approve of your insurance coverage and does not feel it meets the requirements set forth in Obamacare, it is cancelled. Obamacare does not take into consideration whether or not you are happy with your policy, it serves your medical needs and financial needs...IF IT DOES NOT MEET WHAT OBAMACARE DICTATES, THE POLICIES ARE CANCELLED. UNDER OBAMACARE, IT IS A FELONY FOR ANY INSURANCE CARRIER TO OFFER YOU THAT PLAN IF IT IS DEEMED "UNACCETABLE" UNDER OBAMACARE. Any insurance policy that does not meet what Obamacare dictates is punishable by fine, felony charges and imprisonment.
I have read Obamacare. I did not speak for anyone other than myself. Instead of assuming you know what will or will not be cancelled, try reading the bill; you clearly do not know what you are talking about.
BTW - they are massive, massive misrepresentations that were made by Obama and the Dems regarding Obamacare. Everyone should read it. You can pull up the entire law, all 2700+ pages, on the internet.
Speaking of misrepresentations - Did you read the part about
[ In Reply To ..]
WHICH various requirements go into effect and WHEN? Below you will find the sum total of all measures that have been implemented to date. It's curious that none of them pertain to employers canceling policies or committing felonies for "inadequate" coverage, or any of the other claims you have made in your post. I've read the bill. If you are aware of provisions that can substantiate what appears to be your baseless random misinterpretations, by all means cite the sections, subsections, page numbers, and line numbers. Here are the provisions from HCR that have been put into place so fr:
1. Insurance companies cannot discontinue coverage for being sick. Lifetime and annual coverage limits restricted.
2. Parents' health plans cover children until age 26.
3. Temporary high-risk pools to cover pre-existing conditions until 2014 when insurance exchanges will be implemented.
4. Insurance companies cannot deny coverage to children under age 19 due to pre-existing conditions.
5. A temporary program was established to help companies maintain health coverage for early retirees between the ages of 55 and 64. Expires in 2014.
6. Medicare donut hole rebate rebate for prescription drugs that will eventually eliminate that coverage gap.
7. A tax credit becomes available for some small businesses to help provide coverage for workers.
8. A 10% tax on ultraviolet indoor tanning services.
9. A 10% Medicare bonus payments to primary care physicians and general surgeons.
10. Medicare coverage for annual wellness visits and personalized prevention plan services. New health plans will be required to cover preventive services with little or no copay.
11. Medicaid plan to offer home and community based care for the disabled as an lternative to institutional care.
12. Medicare Advantage service pln costs frozen at 2010 levels and will be gradually reduced to be comparable to traditional Medicare.
13. Employers required to report value of health benefits on employees' W-2 tax forms.
14. Pharmaceutical companies to pay annual fees based on market share. Does not apply to companies with sales of less thn $5 million.
15. Enhanced pay for primary care services under under Medicare to encourage doctors to form "accountable care organizations" to improve quality and efficiency of care. A few of these orgnizations are being developed in my area. They offer expanded hours (M-F 9-9 Sat 9-5) along with low-cost dental services not covered on Medicare to both Medicare and non-Medicare patients. They charge according to ability to pay.
16. A Medicare incentive program for acute care hospitals to improve outcomes.
17. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services traack hospital readmission rates and provides financial incentives to reduce preventable readmissions.
18. Tax reporting changes: Businesses, corporations and individuals required to notify the IRS on 1099 form of certain payments to individuals for certain services or property over a reporting threshold of $600.

Make all the accusations and insults you want. I have my paperwork regarding my insurance being dropped for the reasons mentioned in regards to Obamacare. Personally, I don't give a rat's A$$ whether anyone believes a post or doesn't. I know what I had before Obamacare and I know what happened to my insurance after it was passed. Regardless of the "time line" you posted, that is not written in stone. I also know that hospitals and medical facilities in my area and state, have begun to establish compliance with Obamacare whether you believe it or not, due to the monstrosity of it. The isurance policy several hundred of us carried was deemed "illegal" under Obamacare. The policy, for that reason, was removed from the market. Now flame away.
Probably because it was deemed that your company - was ripping you off! nm

Probably because it was deemed that your company - was ripping you off - This comment is so stupid it's pathetic
[ In Reply To ..]
Based on your own ridiculous, nonsensicial, stupid comment, try spinning this.
My insurance was very reasonably priced ($125.00/month), covered everything I needed, had it for several years through lab tests, surgery, diagnostic studies and routine checkups. OBAMACARE deemed it illegal. Obama's solution was to offer a replacement upgraded to what OBAMACARE dictated that was 4 times the cost ($500.00/month), had substantial increases in out of pocket expenses, less coverage, higher annual deductibles and caps in areas I had no caps before (ever hear of rationing)? SO YOU TELL ME O LEARNED ONE WITH NO COMMON SENSE, ARE YOU NOT CAPABLE STILL OF SEEING THE RIP OFF BY OBAMACARE?
Like I said, I don't give a rats a$$ who believes what; I have my paperwork to show to people in person what the Anointed One will evetually do to all of the Americans...Oh yeah, all the while giving the illegal aliens a complete total pass and all health care free. Sink your money into math lessons; you need them.
No you're wrong. sm - VTMT

Presently and for the past eons, before certain Affordable Healthcare sections kick in, your state is responsible for regulating insurance companies. For some reason either your state or your insurance co. decided for some reason not to do business together. It has nothing to do with the President's healthcare plan. I have a very reasonable health insurance policy and my friend in NH cannot get the same policy as my company does not do business in NH.
our insurance was outlawed? what do you mean? - please explain

I can't remember any specifics such as - provision number SM
[ In Reply To ..]
etc but there is a provision in the bill that prevents anyone, IRS, etc., from actually acting on collecting any taxes, fines, if you do not get insurance. The whole provision was read out loud so before you state otherwise you should read the whole bill. This provision is in there.
I can't remember any specifics such as - provision number - You are wrong
[ In Reply To ..]
YOU should follow your own advice and read the whole bill. The IRS can sweep your bank account any time they want, without your permission or the bank's, and take funds directly out of your acount to satisfy the fees, fines, etc. If it was a dem that supposedly read this "out loud", I would not believe it for a minute. It is in the law which means they can act on it when they choose. Guess you are also not aware of the provisions for the HHS Sectary (Killer Sebelius) to make changes to the law, without public knowledge or consent, as "deemed" by the HHS at the "discretion" of the HHS at any time, without Congressional approval. "Before you state otherwise you should read the whole bill" and then post intelligently on the subject.
Hey, just throwing it out there what I heard, - which was a SM
[ In Reply To ..]
nonpartisan statement BTW. I admit there are many aspects of this that I don't know and I am making an effort to learn as much as I can. However, there are so many people against this simply because it is from Obama so some so-called "facts" from those people may be slanted. I keep this in mind while trying to get to the truth. I am an independent, and I believe that something has to be done so people don't have to use ERs for basic health care, which in turn increases the cost of health care to those who do have insurance. I do have insurance but at this point it is basically catastrophic care as I could not afford it any other way. I don't feel my post was unintelligent, just putting out there what I heard, hoping for some intelligent discussion on it.
Throwing it out there - Conservative
[ In Reply To ..]
I, too, am an independent; however, I do not support Obamacare, except for 2 or 3 points. I agree people should not use ERs for basic health care. In our area there are free clinics, Urgent Cares and several other options. Obamacare does not address insurance issues, but is rather about complete control over individals and take over of 1/5 of the entire US economy. I watched all 7-8 hours of the Obama photo op with the Repubs and he flat out refused to listen to any other ideas, other than his own and stated so. Several members came to that conference with very good, solid ideas for insurance reform that would reap immediate benefits; Obama again stated that he refused to review any of them. He basically told all in attendance it was his way or the highway. He also was very insulting and rude to any Repub that wanted to give any input. Then, before the meeting was completed, while members were attempting to discuss their points/options, Obama abruptly stood up and walked out.
What makes no sense about Obamacare is that those that have insurance are being forced into difficult siutations such as yourself, that will more than likely force them into government single-payer insurance, which adds literally millions to the Medicaid plans, swelling those enrollments anywhere between 10 to 30 million per state. Just because Obamacare wanted to "cover" the 10-million or so, he claimed had no insurance.
I find it disgusting that I also am being forced to pay for illegal aliens to have free care when they have already shown complete disdain for America and her laws. If you follow the recent CBO information, Obamacare is going to cost AT LEAST double what Obama stated. Obama also guts senior care through Medicare by 575-billion. Not to mention all the fuzzy math Obama used.
I understand your desire for intelligent discourse on here, but on this board it is extremely hard to come by. Too often, posters are more interested in insulting each other or trying to come off as if they have all the answers. Throwing up a link or a website does not mean much of anything, depending on the slant of the article/website/link, etc.
The bill itself is the best place to get all you need without biased input. However, it is very, very difficult to read and muddle through due to the way the bill was written (very poorly). Quite extensive cross-reference and cross-linking is required to get the full impact of what is going to happen to us (God help us), if this bill is not repealed.
Thanks for post and I hope you continue to do so...do not get discouraged. The nasties eventually wear themselves out and move on....LOL
I disagree but we will just have to see what the - SCOTUS says next month. nm

we had to show proof of marriage and show birth certificates for our children. While I find it crazy that they have to ask, I also understand that when you are asked something like this, it is because some one has obviously committed fraud in the past.
Really, though, I find it no more ridiculous to show basically proof of eligibility to my insurance company than I do to have to show proof of insurance coverage to the government.
