painful feet and bunions

Posted: Dec 16, 2010

Just wondering what to do about this, as i'm starting to have problems standing and walking for long periods of time.  I want to be conservative a while longer before I have surgery to remove the bunions and realign my toes.  Any shoe recommendations?  Any conservative treatments I may have not heard about?

Try Arcopedico shoes (sm) - Yochana

I am in the same boat you are, but I have elected not to have surgery. I have found Arcopedico shoes to be the answer, especially the link I have included. These are very pretty shoes...prettier and dressier than the photo. It is a stretch fabric that stretches around the bunion without pain. It also has a nice supportive rubber sole. I can wear these shoes all day without any discomfort and that is saying a lot for me. I also ordered the Arcopedico Scala and Flower. They are a butter soft leather, but I had to send them back because they don't come wide enough for my EE feet. I was only able to wear the L-18 because of the stretch fabric. They do not look like orthopedic shoes at all. They are a bit pricy...$99.00 to 140.00, but I can wear them to the dressiest functions that I would ever go to. I have been wearing Propet Pedwalker 11 http://www.propetusa.com/product.aspx?pid=595 and these are clunky and ugly so I am really happy to have the Arcopedico shoes.

Painful MammogramNov 12, 2010
I had a mammogram a few days ago which was very painful.  The tech asked if I had a high caffeine intake, which unfortunately I do.  She said this can make the test more painful.  I saw on line that if you reduce or eliminate the caffeine intake about a week prior to the test it will help.  I must say it was painful enough to perhaps make me avoid going back next year.  It has been some years since I have had a mammography.  I am glad I went, but it was not a p ...

Painful Thumb And WristDec 12, 2011
About five weeks ago I was cleaning my chairs and sofa with a small Bissel cleaner, and really overdid it.  I have been diagnsed with de Quervain's tenosynovitis of the right wrist.   I tried anti-inflammatory medication which only worked for a day, then back to bad pain again.   My doctor started me on a course of prednisone, which I took for ten days to no avail.   I am scheduled for an appointment with a hand specialist.  I know they sometimes do s ...

Mastectomy/reconstruction - How Painful Is This?Feb 24, 2010
I'll be having a mastectomy with an immediate reconstruction soon.  Can anybody tell me how much pain I can expect?  I was back to work after my TVH in 3 days with almost no pain whatsoever, so I generally bounce back fast, and I'm young (42).  Of course I can ask the surgeon when I see him again, but if anybody can fill me in in the meantime, that would be great.  I want to be mentally prepared.        ...

Stiff Joints. Sometimes Painful, Sometimes Not.Apr 15, 2012
I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem.  Sometimes my finger joints, knees, wrists, and ankles get so stiff that I cannot move them unless I pop them.  Sometimes they hurt extremely bad until I pop them, sometimes no pain, and sometimes they just won't pop.  This is something that I have been dealing with for as long as I can remember, so it isn't something that has been caused by the sitting from doing MT or anything like that.  I have had one doctor ...

Does anyone else have trouble with painful, achy legs?  My are hurting after only sitting at the computer for half an hour and then they hurt the rest of the day.  This is especially bad since I had my gallbladder removed four weeks ago.  Does anyone have any suggestions to help the pain?  TIA! ...

Knee Swollen, Tight, PainfulOct 18, 2009
Have been having trouble with my knee since about spring of this year.  I had a knee scope ten years ago for some torn cartilage, and the knee did great for the ten years following, but flared up this past spring.  It gets a very tight and full feeling with a big bulge in the back of the knee, and I keep telling the doctor I believe it is a Baker's cyst, but he doesn't suggest anything for it.  He did tell me that is where the fluid goes because it has no place else to g ...

Help Me With My Feet! They Hurt So Bad, Are Soo Dry, AndJun 03, 2011
I have cracked heels that bleed and hurt extremely bad.  I also have cracking up the outside of my foot as well.  I have used foot fungus creams and sprays.  I have used that Miracle Foot Repair and many, many different lotions and moisturizers.  I use a callus shaver to shave the hard dry skin off my heels and then moisturize, but it doesn't help at all.  It gets really bad in the summer when I start wearing flip flops a lot.  It seems my heels get worse with ...

Feet SwellingOct 19, 2013

Cold FeetJan 14, 2016
I am reaching out to my fellow MT's to ask what to do about my cold feet.  This time of year my feet get extremely cold while I type all day.  I have never typed in shoes, and really cannot because I can't feel the difference in the pedals.  If I wear shoes I end up backspacing or forwarding all the time.  I can wear house shoes with a very soft, flexible sole most of the time, but my feet freeze this time of year.  Any suggestions?  ...

Feet Issues- For YearsAug 22, 2013
I have no idea where to go to get some help for myself. I have tried every single speciality that I thought perhaps could help but this has been going on for over 10 years now and no help. Tried ortho, podiatry, neurologist, nerve conduction studies, x-rays, MRIs, nothing found and no treatment and still going on. If not for Birkie's, have no clue what I would do but still feet aching. My left foot used to have electrical current that would hit, only when walking, never at night. That elect ...

I Have An Aversion To Feet, Especially Ugly, Oct 12, 2013
calloused, fungi-infected man-feet.  I hate typing reports that involve foot care. I don't mind nice feet but these feet that people present to doctors and NPs are just waaaay too ugly.  Cracked, swollen, peeling, ingrown nails, fungus, sub-ungual debris.  Yuck yuck and yuck again.  ...

Is Trump Really Trying To Hold Their Feet Jul 23, 2015
So, if Repubs don't treat him "right," he may run 3rd party.  Where would that 24% (I think that is the highest I have seen) get him?  Nowhere, but it would destroy the Repub's chances.  That's 24% of their own.  Unlike Bernie, I haven't seen any articles that show any party-crossing for Trump...not a single Democrat voting for him.  Oh, there must be someone, sure... So wil the Repubs let him run with it?  The only silver lining is that this i ...

Freezing Cold Hands, Feet And Nose But Hot And Sweating Everywhere ElseJan 17, 2011
Does anyone else have this problem.  I can not stand it.  My hands and feet and nose are so cold.  I have socks and slippers on.  In fact, my right foot is much colder than my left and is painful cold.  The veins in my right wrist are recently smaller and the left are still normal and stick out like the right used to but now they are teeny tiny.  I do not know if this is all related or not, but sick of feeling like crap and having wierd symptoms that gets the r ...

Fair Game-Holding Bankers' Feet To The FireJul 18, 2010
By GRETCHEN MORGENSON Published: July 16, 2010 KUDOS to the Federal Housing Finance Agency, overseer of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the crippled mortgage finance giants. While some in Washington have continued to coddle the big banks even after they drove our economy into the ditch, this agency seems serious about recovering money for taxpayers by holding bad financial actors to account. The agency announced last Monday that it had issued 64 subpoenas to a throng of unidentified financial ser ...

Update On My Dry Cracked Sore Feet! I Know Y'all Been Waiting On Pins And Needles...Jun 14, 2011
I went with whomever it was that suggested Surgeon's Secret.  I bought some of that.  Plus I bought a pair of "Heelies" which are these little heel socks that have a gel lining along the heel that infuse minerals and oils into your skin.  My feet get really hot and I don't like to sleep in socks and these only cover the heels and halfway up the foot.  I L-O-V-E them!  During the day when I'm working, I've been using the Surgeon's Secret all over ...

"HAPPY FEET" (sm) :o)Oct 23, 2009
My cat just did something I haven't seen a cat do before: You know how cats knead their front paws ("make biscuits") when they're very happy?  Well, my cat sometimes does her "happy feet" not just with the front paws, but all FOUR at the same time! The other evening she had climbed into bed and was kneading with her front paws, like always.  Then, she flopped over onto her side, and continued kneading the blanket (and occasionally my arm... good thing I'd just trimmed ...
