Feet swelling

Posted: May 8, 2013

I just recently started working an 8-hour shift, sitting behind the computer.  I have always had split shifts before.  After the 8 hours, my feet are so swollen.  Has anyone else had this?

Yes, I get that too, especially when the weather gets hotter. They say to get up every hour and walk for 5 minutes but that doesn't work for me. Also, could try an Ace wrap to compress.

Could be deep vein thrombosis! (see the thread about "just ranting" to feel better!

At put them on in the morning before your feet swell. Get up frequently and walk around.

A DVT would be painful and one sided. If swelling is just on one side, see your doctor.

What works for me is a tbsp of lemon juice, no sugar, in 32 oz water. (sm) - anon

You do get used to the taste and it really works well to keep the swelling down. I start drinking it every day as soon as the humidity starts rising in the spring.

I cut out all salt (carbonated beverages have lots of salt so I cut those out too) and the swelling is less pronounced. I drink a lot of cold water and that forces me to get up to urinate about once an hour. My washroom is on another floor, so I get things moving pretty well. By the end of a full day of typing my feet are only slightly swollen now.

Right Leg SwellingFeb 28, 2016
My poor leg has taken a beating over the years.  In 2004 I had the right knee scoped and a bunch of things were wrong with it.  In 2009, I fell in the bathtub and sprained my right ankle and ended up having it incised and drained.  Four years after that, the foot swelled up and then subsided after about a month.  Now, the whole shin is swollen and inflamed with dark patchy spots and it itches like he**.  Benadryl and walking seems to help, but when I sit to do my job, th ...

So left leg starts swelling..Go to doc, rule out DVT said my valves are bad. His answer, take a baby aspirin a day (I look like I have been in a fight Im so bruised) and yesterday at end of shift my leg is tight swollen and my foot. Of course I elevated it and this morning it is better (not totally down) but I know by end of shift it will be bad again. Anyone have any ideas. Personally I would rather have it fixed then deal with this, I have 3 more years to work at this job and I'm only ...

Ankle/foot SwellingAug 10, 2011
For the 2nd time in 2 weeks I have had extreme foot and ankle swellling.  Funny enough it has happened exactly a week from the first episode.  I used to swell just a little bit from working but by the next morning, it would have subsided.  Not these past 2 times. Last week, I went to the doctor and got some Lasix and even after taking 1/2-1 tablet per day of this, my feet are still swollen 3+.  It is very uncomfortable and unnerving. Should I go back to the doctor or put my f ...

Foot Swelling, Any Ideas?Mar 14, 2013
I have recently noticed left foot swelling, more so than right although a little on the right sometimes. I also feel like I am having swelling in my trunk area, not necessarily my abdominal area but the trunk. I am not using added/excessive salt. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas on the cause of this. ...

Bilateral Wrist Pain And SwellingNov 10, 2010
Okay, I've been doing MT work for about 25 years and never had much of a problem with my wrists that a little R&R didn't fix.  Lately, I've been having pain that seems to start in my wrists, causes my wrists and fingers on both hands to swell, and the pain seems to travel up both of my arms to my shoulder region.  It hurts to even reach overhead to change my shirt. Has anyone else experienced this?  I do editing most of the day, which might be why I've ne ...

Help Me With My Feet! They Hurt So Bad, Are Soo Dry, AndJun 03, 2011
I have cracked heels that bleed and hurt extremely bad.  I also have cracking up the outside of my foot as well.  I have used foot fungus creams and sprays.  I have used that Miracle Foot Repair and many, many different lotions and moisturizers.  I use a callus shaver to shave the hard dry skin off my heels and then moisturize, but it doesn't help at all.  It gets really bad in the summer when I start wearing flip flops a lot.  It seems my heels get worse with ...

Cold FeetJan 14, 2016
I am reaching out to my fellow MT's to ask what to do about my cold feet.  This time of year my feet get extremely cold while I type all day.  I have never typed in shoes, and really cannot because I can't feel the difference in the pedals.  If I wear shoes I end up backspacing or forwarding all the time.  I can wear house shoes with a very soft, flexible sole most of the time, but my feet freeze this time of year.  Any suggestions?  ...

Just wondering what to do about this, as i'm starting to have problems standing and walking for long periods of time.  I want to be conservative a while longer before I have surgery to remove the bunions and realign my toes.  Any shoe recommendations?  Any conservative treatments I may have not heard about?  ...

Feet Issues- For YearsAug 22, 2013
I have no idea where to go to get some help for myself. I have tried every single speciality that I thought perhaps could help but this has been going on for over 10 years now and no help. Tried ortho, podiatry, neurologist, nerve conduction studies, x-rays, MRIs, nothing found and no treatment and still going on. If not for Birkie's, have no clue what I would do but still feet aching. My left foot used to have electrical current that would hit, only when walking, never at night. That elect ...

I Have An Aversion To Feet, Especially Ugly, Oct 12, 2013
calloused, fungi-infected man-feet.  I hate typing reports that involve foot care. I don't mind nice feet but these feet that people present to doctors and NPs are just waaaay too ugly.  Cracked, swollen, peeling, ingrown nails, fungus, sub-ungual debris.  Yuck yuck and yuck again.  ...

Is Trump Really Trying To Hold Their Feet Jul 23, 2015
So, if Repubs don't treat him "right," he may run 3rd party.  Where would that 24% (I think that is the highest I have seen) get him?  Nowhere, but it would destroy the Repub's chances.  That's 24% of their own.  Unlike Bernie, I haven't seen any articles that show any party-crossing for Trump...not a single Democrat voting for him.  Oh, there must be someone, sure... So wil the Repubs let him run with it?  The only silver lining is that this i ...

Fair Game-Holding Bankers' Feet To The FireJul 18, 2010
By GRETCHEN MORGENSON Published: July 16, 2010 KUDOS to the Federal Housing Finance Agency, overseer of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the crippled mortgage finance giants. Update On My Dry Cracked Sore Feet! I Know Y'all Been Waiting On Pins And Needles...Jun 14, 2011
I went with whomever it was that suggested Surgeon's Secret.  I bought some of that.  Plus I bought a pair of "Heelies" which are these little heel socks that have a gel lining along the heel that infuse minerals and oils into your skin.  My feet get really hot and I don't like to sleep in socks and these only cover the heels and halfway up the foot.  I L-O-V-E them!  During the day when I'm working, I've been using the Surgeon's Secret all over ...

"HAPPY FEET" (sm) :o)Oct 23, 2009
My cat just did something I haven't seen a cat do before: You know how cats knead their front paws ("make biscuits") when they're very happy?  Well, my cat sometimes does her "happy feet" not just with the front paws, but all FOUR at the same time! The other evening she had climbed into bed and was kneading with her front paws, like always.  Then, she flopped over onto her side, and continued kneading the blanket (and occasionally my arm... good thing I'd just trimmed ...
