Painful, achy legs

Posted: Aug 20, 2012

Does anyone else have trouble with painful, achy legs?  My are hurting after only sitting at the computer for half an hour and then they hurt the rest of the day.  This is especially bad since I had my gallbladder removed four weeks ago.  Does anyone have any suggestions to help the pain?  TIA!

I'd check your chair, make sure it's not cutting of the circulation at the back of your knees, sometimes a big soft comfy chair isn't the best thing. Prop up your feet to make sure your feet, knees, hips and shoulder are all in correct posture.

It sucks when you hurt too much at the end of the day to make it worthwhile..
Redo my whole home office to get 'comfy'. It's well worth it...

Jobst stockings - Vet MT

I've had this problem for years. I wear Jobst stockings when I work, which really helps the burning and throbbing. They have also eliminated the swollen ankles and feet.

It's not my chair--I've had expensive, well recommended chairs and still had the burning, aching, swollen legs. Right now it's a Steelcase Think Chair, and before that it was a Herman Miller Aeron. I just inherited my mother's leg circulation, I guess, but a woman's got to make a living.

Perhaps low in potassium - that causes leg pain

Easy enough to check it out.

Pedal edema? - Lena

I'd guess since it is both legs that it's your chair cutting off circulation, posterior thighs. You could put a big pillow on your chair to help circulation, and also get up frequently and walk around. If foot swelling is severe you may be looking at other conditions and should see your doctor who may put you on an diurectic. Hope you can resolve this!

Do you smoke? - Nancy

My mother has had these problems for years and it was her smoking habit that destroyed the circulation and caused the problems. She quit two months ago (after 62 years) because she now had congestive heart failure.

I second the potassium suggestion; try eating a banana every day to see if it helps. The chair may still be a problem, even if it is ergonomic and expensive, because it needs to be properly adjusted to suit your particular body.

banana or coconut water 4 potassium - a thought.

coconut water has much more potassium than 1 banana. In case you r not hungry but thirsty ;)
Harvest Bay brand is my absolute favorite. unless straight-up fresh coconut!

Painful MammogramNov 12, 2010
I had a mammogram a few days ago which was very painful.  The tech asked if I had a high caffeine intake, which unfortunately I do.  She said this can make the test more painful.  I saw on line that if you reduce or eliminate the caffeine intake about a week prior to the test it will help.  I must say it was painful enough to perhaps make me avoid going back next year.  It has been some years since I have had a mammography.  I am glad I went, but it was not a p ...

Aching LegsJul 07, 2010
For the past three days, my lower legs, especially my ankles have been extremely achy.  I have tried ibuprofen and Vicodin without relief.  I can't afford to to the doctor as I have no health insurance and a lot of medical bills.  Normally the bottom of my right foot aches, but this different.  I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what you did to relieve the pain.  TIA! ...

Painful Thumb And WristDec 12, 2011
About five weeks ago I was cleaning my chairs and sofa with a small Bissel cleaner, and really overdid it.  I have been diagnsed with de Quervain's tenosynovitis of the right wrist.   I tried anti-inflammatory medication which only worked for a day, then back to bad pain again.   My doctor started me on a course of prednisone, which I took for ten days to no avail.   I am scheduled for an appointment with a hand specialist.  I know they sometimes do s ...

Mastectomy/reconstruction - How Painful Is This?Feb 24, 2010
I'll be having a mastectomy with an immediate reconstruction soon.  Can anybody tell me how much pain I can expect?  I was back to work after my TVH in 3 days with almost no pain whatsoever, so I generally bounce back fast, and I'm young (42).  Of course I can ask the surgeon when I see him again, but if anybody can fill me in in the meantime, that would be great.  I want to be mentally prepared.        ...

Stiff Joints. Sometimes Painful, Sometimes Not.Apr 15, 2012
I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem.  Sometimes my finger joints, knees, wrists, and ankles get so stiff that I cannot move them unless I pop them.  Sometimes they hurt extremely bad until I pop them, sometimes no pain, and sometimes they just won't pop.  This is something that I have been dealing with for as long as I can remember, so it isn't something that has been caused by the sitting from doing MT or anything like that.  I have had one doctor ...

Knee Swollen, Tight, PainfulOct 18, 2009
Have been having trouble with my knee since about spring of this year.  I had a knee scope ten years ago for some torn cartilage, and the knee did great for the ten years following, but flared up this past spring.  It gets a very tight and full feeling with a big bulge in the back of the knee, and I keep telling the doctor I believe it is a Baker's cyst, but he doesn't suggest anything for it.  He did tell me that is where the fluid goes because it has no place else to g ...

Strange Question - Do You Type With Your Legs Crossed?Jun 11, 2010
Somehow I got into the habit of doing this years ago and now I can't type with both feet on the ground anymore.  I had an awful time during the 4 months I spent in the cam walker with the broken foot last year because I couldn't cross my legs (right foot was broken, had to prop it and use the left foot). Anyone else with this strange habit?  I use the pedal with my right foot and have to have my left leg crossed over.  I also can't stand to have the little things ...
