Cold feet

Posted: Jan 14, 2016

I am reaching out to my fellow MT's to ask what to do about my cold feet.  This time of year my feet get extremely cold while I type all day.  I have never typed in shoes, and really cannot because I can't feel the difference in the pedals.  If I wear shoes I end up backspacing or forwarding all the time.  I can wear house shoes with a very soft, flexible sole most of the time, but my feet freeze this time of year.  Any suggestions?

try a sporting goods store - for thermal socks

They have a lot of outdoors, cold weather gear.

Try a space heater - Bella

I have a small space heater on the floor near my desk. I sit smack dab in the northwest corner of the house and this helps! Plus 2 pairs of socks :)

Cold feet - wordie

I can sure relate. Even when the rest of me has warmed up with the heat on this time of year, my feet always feel cold. Here are the two things I do to warm them up, both of which have worked great for me.

First I wear down booties. Here is where I got mine. http://www.thecompanystore.com/family-down-booties-for-kids-and-adults/t679-ps-j15.html

Second, if it's super cold and my feet aren't warming up enough, if I'm working, I slip a couple of Hot Hands toe warmers into my booties. http://www.amazon.com/HotHands-Toe-Warmers/dp/B00SA6KMAE/ref=pd_sim_468_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=51DI%2BEWHPlL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR126%2C160_&refRID=0CGJFAPJTXB31DB1AS14

If I'm in bed or sitting around, I rest my feet on a microwave corn heating pad, which I got from Etsy.

Hope this helps.

You could make your own heating pad for the microwave--sm - anon

To warm up shoes, take an old tube sock and fill with rice, close with a rubber band or some twine and warm in the microwave.

If you do not want to warm the shoes, but just your feet in socks, take an old bandana or similar sized fabric and fill with rice, tie off and warm in the microwave.

In the winter, I make sure to wear warmer socks. My favorite are smart wool but I have other thick socks that also work well.

Diathermic oil radiator. - sm

Try a diathermic oil-filled radiator like a Delonghi. They are toasty and very safe. They have one small enough to fit under your desk.

I have this problem and have tried many different things - sm

The thing that works best for me is a small electric blanket. I can put the heat right where I want it and also use it over my hands sometimes.

THANK YOU ALL! - Rusty

Thanks to all of you for the great suggestions. I have made a list and will try them all and let you know what worked best. I was considering buying a heating pad, but the thermal socks and all the other suggestions seem more feasible for the situation, since I have to feel the foot pedal. Thanks again, and keep warm. Going to drop in the single digits again here first of the week. Come on spring!

I can't post a picture, but THIS is THE most wonderful invention for cold feet. I got it last year and have used it every day of winter since. I love it. And it sits over the top of your pedal, so it doesn't impede your ability to use it.

Where has this been the last 25 years? I am going to order this just as soon as I get my paycheck Friday! Thank you so much. It is perfect. I think all MT's should have this. I didn't even know things like this existed. Thanks again!

Most Welcome! :) - mel268

It's the absolute best. Just love mine. And I agree! I never knew anything like this existed. And it's nice and roomy...actually room enough for an entire other set of feet in there. The cord is nice and long so that you can use it almost anywhere. And it doesn't get so hot that it damages the floor or your equipment. There are about 5 settings I think. Best thing ever. I originally saw it in a FB compilation article about ways to stay warm, and I received the hand warmers (link below) from my husband which are also nice as my fingers used to freeze in my last home office. Best of luck! I love mine!

I have cracked heels that bleed and hurt extremely bad.  I also have cracking up the outside of my foot as well.  I have used foot fungus creams and sprays.  I have used that Miracle Foot Repair and many, many different lotions and moisturizers.  I use a callus shaver to shave the hard dry skin off my heels and then moisturize, but it doesn't help at all.  It gets really bad in the summer when I start wearing flip flops a lot.  It seems my heels get worse with ...

Is Trump Really Trying To Hold Their Feet Jul 23, 2015
So, if Repubs don't treat him "right," he may run 3rd party.  Where would that 24% (I think that is the highest I have seen) get him?  Nowhere, but it would destroy the Repub's chances.  That's 24% of their own.  Unlike Bernie, I haven't seen any articles that show any party-crossing for Trump...not a single Democrat voting for him.  Oh, there must be someone, sure... So wil the Repubs let him run with it?  The only silver lining is that this i ...

Florida ColdFeb 19, 2015
At the risk of getting tomatoes thrown at me for those people in the north, here in SW Florida, we're not used to cold weather. It's 56 today, and going into the 30s tonight. I can't stop shivering. The heat in many of the homes is not efficient at all (it shouldn't have to be!), and our windows and doors aren't insulated. We have an open floor plan and high, vaulted ceilings, so heating it is almost impossible. And it's windy out so all the cold here is coming in t ...
