doctors visit

Posted: Aug 13, 2013

My grandson had been complaining of abdominal pain for a few weeks on and off so my grandson made an appointment yesterday with a GI doc, well known in my town. We went to the appointment, I paid the $25.00 copay and it was the shortest doctors appointment I have ever been to. He walked in asked what the problem was and then said well lets schedule some tests to see what is going on. He scheduled both an EGD and colonoscopy on an 18 year old. Never touched my grandson, never felt his belly. didn't order x-rays, ultrasound or anything. In and out in about 2 minutes. My grandson didn't even know what these procedures were or what they were for, until I explained them to him. Doctor never even asked if he goes to the bathroom on a regular basis, if he might be constipated or anything. Just lets schedule these procedure. There is no family history of any stomach issues in his immediate family.

After we got home I was thinking about all of this and I feel as if the doctor just did not do his job, period. I am very upset with him and I want my $25.00 back. Am I wrong for feeling like this? Did he do his job or is he just looking for more money in his pocket? Isn't there some type of protocol they go through before they schedule these tests? Labs, radiology, etc., and then order these tests if something doesn't look right? Or am I just being over protective?

GI issues - sm

My husband had a similar issue a couple of years back. Same issue with the GI doctor, except we went ahead with the tests -- which found nothing.

Anyway, after almost a year or so dithering around with Dr. Test-the-wazoo-outta-you, it turned out my husband's problems were due to a wheat and lactose sensitivity, found by our GP (who we really should have gone to first -- live and learn for sure).

doctor's visit - I agree

You are right to feel that this was unacceptable. Unfortunately, this is the present and future in our health care system, thanks to obama-scare. Doctors are forced to see more patients in less time, with less "care" provided. I'm sure there will be people slamming me for saying this. However, they will be affected just like the rest of us. Gone are the days when doctors are able to actually spend time with their patients. They're nothing more than a referral system now, unless they're specialists. Even specialists won't have time to provide care. They'll order tests and prescribe treatment or surgery. I think I would ask for a 2nd opinion at minimum.

Meant to hit dislike... - Oops!

This kind of testing CYA has been going on for a lllloooonnnnggggg time now.

I had no idea that Obamacare was in effect - yet. When did this take

place? I have a myraid of physicians I am going to and have been going to for the last 3-4 years and they seem to all be rushed. Did this start at that time and maybe I am just behind or what? The last time I remember a physician taking time was years before Obama but if you say this now has started, then I better play catch up.

Blaming this on Obamacare is ridiculous! NM - Chavera

Regarding Your Son's Visit....Jul 12, 2010
You are a whole lot luckier than me and my husband.  You got 3-4 hours.  I would love even that much.  Our DIL sounds so much like yours, only much, much WORSE.  Our son is riding in the same boat as your son.  I don\'t know how old your son is but ours is 35 and has 10, 7 and 2-1/2 year old children.  I thought I was alone in my agony but apparently not.  I\'m so sorry for you.  I know that feeling many times over.  It won\'t get any b ...

Visit With NeurosurgeonJan 17, 2012
Well yesterday I ended back up in the ER. My entire spine is numb. They did MRis and I went to see the neurosurgeon. He says it is not my neck and says I have a "central nervous system disorder" and wants me to go back to the neurologist because I have bilateral trigeminal neuralgia. I am so sick of being tossed around I don't know what to do.  Please pray that the previous neuro will see me again. I cannot take any more. Thank you. ...

Do Doctor's Visit Really Cost This Much?Sep 08, 2016
So, I'm one of those people generally don't go to the doctor unless they are spurting blood across the room, but... A couple months ago, I found a lump in my breast, so I made an appointment with a GYN. I went there, they had me leave a urine sample, he felt the lump, wrote me a referral to a breast surgeon and for a mammogram/ultrasound and told me it would definitely need to be biopsied (freaking me out some more) and that was it. I had the mammogram/ultrasound. His office call ...

People Come To Visit And Act Like They Own The Place?Sep 16, 2010
Spouse's daughter and her family are here from Florida again and I don't think I can handle it. They take over my house. No consideration for the fact that they are GUESTS and not permanent residents. Use my collectable cups instead of the everyday ones, hoard the towels and use them over and over (YUCK) and for some reason have a problem shutting the cupboard doors completely. And I won't even mention that they have an aversion to turning off lights and run the tv in t ...

From The Woman Who Had The 2 Girls VisitOct 20, 2013
I was reading the post on the Gab Board about the person asking how to get trust back in her partner. I was amazed to see that a person on here was guessing about "the one with the 2 girls for summer." Were you not ever told not to assume things? This is the person with the 2 girls for the summer, so you put it. The person writing about the trust issue is not me. I have no trust issues with anyone, certainly not my husband. I have no idea why coming on this board and asking the most simple o ...

Pope/Trump VisitMay 24, 2017
Trump said he "won't forget what" the Pope said to him in their private meeting. And the Vatican put out a nice statement after their meeting saying the two leaders talked about "the promotion of peace in the world through political negotiation and interreligious dialogue" I hope world peace is what he won't forget. I hope that he will stop the incessant attacks and bombing by the U.S. In other news, Trump seems to have taken back that NATO is "obsolete" with a simple statement ...

Keeping Kids Busy While They VisitMar 06, 2013
This summer I am hopefully going to have some little girls come and visit, sisters, one 9 and one 11. I hope they will be visiting for about 20+ days. I will be working part-time while they are here and interested in finding some activities to keep them busy while I am working. I am probably going to get Netflix but do not want to have them just constantly watching movies. I know they like to draw, write letters, do artsy stuff but other than paper, pens, crayons and the like, hoping to get som ...

What Are These Greedy GPs Charging Today For An Office Visit? (sm)Apr 09, 2014
I'm on Medicare.  Can't afford a supplemental plan.  Forced to pay $100 a month for Medicare but wish I could opt out as I cannot afford to use it.  Every time I see the "doctor" (always a NP or PA) by the time Medicare pays their 80% I have a bill of about $156. when I was seen for about 1 minute to get a medication refill, only to have them refuse to refill in 2 months, requiring another office visit where the med I've been on for decades ,and obviously need, is n ...

News Is Casey Turned Down Visit From Her Mother. BafflingJul 11, 2011
Cindy is sounding screwier than her daughter.  Why in the world would Cindy want to see Casey after accusing her son and her husband of incest?  What would they talk about?  Would Cindy want to know about the accidental drowning? Would she ask Casey who hid the body, how it got to the swamp area near their house, who double bagged and duct taped the drowning victim?  Would she ask about the incest?  The commentators are all fired up that Casey would turn down ...

Doctors ErrorsJan 04, 2012
I've got the local respiratory creeping crud.  Saw the doc and he prescribed prednisone.  The pharmacist had to call him back today.  Prescription was written for 20 tablets, "1 on day one then 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 on successive days once a day".  I'm thinking that this makes no sense at all.  All of this MT work pays off.  He meant 6 on day one then 5 on day 2, 4 on day 3, etc., but the rx was written exactly as above.  How do common folk ever know what the ...

Doctors Trying To Talk Down To Me, Really?Mar 19, 2013
I am wondering if others run into what I have or is this just me who seems to have a bull's eye on them and others think they can say what they want and I will not respond. Anyway, this morning I went back to the ophthalmologist, had cataract surgery about 3 weeks ago. I noticed the first visit the day after surgery he seemed a little put off like he might have been a little huffy but nothing else happened that time. This morning we were talking and I was telling him about not being able to ...

Hospitals Should NOT Hire DoctorsSep 18, 2016
At least, not if they are going to be interacting with patients or dictating reports. I know I'm preaching to the choir here but this is ridiculous.    I'm not xenophobic or racist but it just plain puts patient care in jeopardy when they can't communicate effectively with patients or speak clearly enough for MTs to understand them. I sit here and scream obscenities at my computer while these people are ruining my line counts because if I don't then I'll prob ...

Doctors Rally Against ObamaCare In D.C.Mar 21, 2010
Wow, what an inspiration they are!  They took time out from their busy practices to rally in Washington.  This is from late last year.  At bottom of page is a COMMENT section containing comments (many of which are recent) from lots of other docs and nurses who couldn't make it to the rally.
