Doctors Rally Against ObamaCare in D.C.

Posted: Mar 21, 2010

Wow, what an inspiration they are!  They took time out from their busy practices to rally in Washington.  This is from late last year.  At bottom of page is a COMMENT section containing comments (many of which are recent) from lots of other docs and nurses who couldn't make it to the rally.

Remember that many practices are SMALL BUSINESSES, so these guys will be getting a double whammy from taxes, not just from CommieCare.  What does that mean to us?  EVERY DOCTOR WHO RETIRES OR HAS TO CLOSE HIS PRACTICE MEANS ONE LESS CLIENT/ACCOUNT FOR US.

support some version of Obama healthcare reform, most think there should be a public OPTION.

I just had an appointment with my doc three days ago and (sm) - Nikki

I asked him what he thought about all this healthcare reform stuff.

He asked me if I had an hour, and I said, "I do, but I doubt that you do."

He then explained how he has always been very political and even gives presentations in favor of healthcare reform. He said, in 1994, he had the opportunity to intern at the White House, which was a very special opportunity for him; however, he was against the Clinton healthcare plan.

He told me that he's now in favor of HRC in its present form, but ONLY because it will establish a law that hopefully can be fixed later. His first preference is a single payer system, on moral grounds.

I always liked this doc because I got the feeling that he was in medicine in order to help people and not for the money. (In fact, he runs the residency program for a low-income clinic.) What he told me confirmed that feeling.

I know that HE won't be quitting if the HCR goes through. He'll just be working behind the scenes to fix the flaws that remain. I really "lucked out" when I got this doc and wouldn't trade him for anyone else.

The docs who are only in it for the money can all quit, as far as I'm concerned. I'll take someone whose morals are in the right place any day over greedy, uncaring physicians who are only in it for the money.

Hmmmm.......Sure....how convenient!...Would you have told us if it was the other way? - nm

and when I saw mine 2 months ago he said if it passes he will definitely leave practice. There are six physicians in this group, and 4 of them intend to leave the practice if the bill passes, which I admit does seem to be a done deal thanks to the underhanded methods being employed. He says it is because he does care too much about his patients to allow government bureaucracy to tell him how to treat them. You see, nikki, there are 2 sides to this. I love this doctor and don't know who I will go to in this event. I have trusted him with my life and I don't want to trade that for a physician such as yours who favors a government-run show. I am happy you have a physician you appreciate. I wish you felt that same way towards me and mine rather than trying to force your kind of system on all of us.
I don't want to force anything on you, and from what I (sm) - Nikki
[ In Reply To ..]

understand, you will get to KEEP the doctor you have. I doubt that Obama is twisting his/her arm to quit the practice of medicine.

Where are you finding information about government - deciding treatments
[ In Reply To ..]
patients can receive, or am I misreading? My understanding is that the few physicians who say they may leave are mostly primary care physicians who are worried about a 21% cut in reimbursement for Medicare patients which, by the way, is no longer the case.
honestly.... - cj
[ In Reply To ..]
honestly, there is no such information out there, but many feel it is a logical outcome from the legislation in the works. No one knows what this bill will or will not accomplish. some view it with optimism, some with pessimism, but no one can really say with certainty "it will do this" or "it will not do this." ALL is speculation on the parts of those who think it is a good thing and those who think it is a bad thing. My physician thinks it will be a bad thing. It's that simple. I hope and pray that I am wrong, because otherwise, we are in for a rough ride, particularly those of us who are well past our 20s and 30! Since, as I said, I do think it is a done deal, I will continue to hope and pray that I am wrong - it would not be the first time by any stretch of the imagination! My point, though, is that no one knows. We will all have to wait and see. I personally just don't have much faith in my government right now so I will wait and see with a little less confidence than some might. The one good thing that has come from this debate, however, I think is that America has woken up to the need to stay informed and active in the political process.

Yesterday I heard President Obama tell Congress to not worry about keeping their seats but to do the right thing. sounds good, doesn't it? Personally, I thought it sucked. He basically told them to ignore what the people want and do what he wants. He told them to ignore their constituencies. As I said, I have very little faith in my government right now. I think it is time for some housekeeping on both sides of that aisle.
I see what you are saying. I hope so too. The really - difficult part
[ In Reply To ..]
of all this is that congress knows that the vast majority of citizens do not understand, and that there are many sources giving us false information. It's a tough situation to be in, to be responsible for doing what is right for people who do not (and aren't really expected to) understand. It would be nice if each and every one of us understood how the laws work and could predict the outcome, then we could perhaps be relied upon. But, so many special interests out there just preaching doomsday, and so many people listening. Also folks saying it's a good thing, but they're not as loud it doesn't seem. I for one really do hope that the people we've elected will not worry about themselves, but will do what is right for us.
what is right for us... - cj
[ In Reply To ..]
would be to actually listen to us! It is their job to represent the wishes of the people who elected them, not go against them. A large portion of the populace has come out against this legislation, to the point the majority have indicated there will vote out any representative who votes yes on this measure. That is the height of their arrogance. to tell us they know better and to feel justified in not doing the job WE elected them to do, to represent us. If this were put to a public vote today it would be soundly defeated. Thus, it should be defeated in Congress, too. That would represent the vote of the people. Again, no one knows what is going to happen. you choose to believe one side; I choose to believe the other. Please do not tell me your side is right and mine is just preaching doomsday. We do not know who is correct or incorrect in their assessment and we will not know for quite some time. If I actually am correct, then today is a very sad day for the US. If I am incorrect, I will be pleased to see a positive change in the current state of health care delivery. You see, I do realize there is a need for change. I simply do not like the direction I see this particular legislation moving. I only wish that many on the other side of the debate would acknowledge that indeed they may be incorrect and this legislation could hold the potential to cause harm.
We elected them - not much more to say - except
[ In Reply To ..]
what I already have. Oh, and I didn't say I was on any side. I just want a good decision to be made by those we elected to make those decisions for us.
if I misread - cj
[ In Reply To ..]
If i misread your post, I sincerely apologize. I read your post as saying that you feel they should vote what they want and ignore the voters as the public does not understand enough to make decisions for themselves, thus leading me to believe you are absolutely pro reform. Seriously, if I misread it, I you have my apology.
oops - cj
[ In Reply To ..]
about that statement "many sources giving us false information." I don't think that is all one sided, do you? i think false info is coming from those in favor of as well as those opposed.
I didn't say one side or the other was correct - ??
[ In Reply To ..]
or that one side was giving misinformation any more than the other. Calm down.

Well, I work for 3 doctors, all of whom hate this bill - with a passion, say it will ruin the system

[ In Reply To ..]
bring down the quality of healthcare, and hurt the economy even more than it is hurting. Also, we will pay for it for years before many benefits take effect at all. Doctors I have spoken to want HRC, but say this bill is not the way to go.. not even close.
Well, I worked in an office with 50+ docs - and while I did not talk
[ In Reply To ..]
to all of them about it, the ones I did talk to about it (and the subject did come up a lot because it was a teaching clinic with 1st, 2nd and 3rd year resident as well as established docs in a variety of specialities that largely catered to people w/o health care coverage) were ALL very much for HCR.

I suspect all of us could quote our personal experiences with doctors and show instances where they agreed with us so I guess this tit for tat stuff is really pointless.

Obamacare Is Failing From Behind... His Goals For ObamacareJul 20, 2016
