Regarding your son's visit....

Posted: Jul 12, 2010

You are a whole lot luckier than me and my husband.  You got 3-4 hours.  I would love even that much.  Our DIL sounds so much like yours, only much, much WORSE.  Our son is riding in the same boat as your son.  I don\'t know how old your son is but ours is 35 and has 10, 7 and 2-1/2 year old children.  I thought I was alone in my agony but apparently not.  I\'m so sorry for you.  I know that feeling many times over.  It won\'t get any better.  Our son has been married for 11 years and regardless of whether you say anything and fight with all your might or whether you give in and lick the dirt from her shoes, you will lose, especially with children involved.  They are the weapons of choice.  If your son is like mine, he won\'t want to be a weekend dad and he will stab you in the back even if he wishes not to.  It is a requirement when married to these types.  Learn to live with it and prepare yourself for major heartache.  Our son lives about 7 miles away and they never come to see us.  We have to go over there and then put up with nastiness from her.  I really, really feel for you as I know what you\'re going through.

I appreciate your reply, even though my post was deleted. I did have my say with my son yesterday, I had to or else I would have burst. My son and I have a unique relationship apparently...he's 23, married for almost 2 years, and has an 11 month old beautiful little girl. He married his wife after only a few months of dating, in my opinion only because he was going into the Air Force and didn't want to go alone. I pray that he isn't one of those who will turn on his family because of his wife. I'm still holding out hope for her that she'll come around and learn that we aren't here to hurt her, but to welcome her into our family and love her like a daughter. She's very defensive and has walls up, so hopefully with time and love, she'll come around. They are leaving today, which I'm very, very sad about. I don't even feel like they've been here, and don't feel as if I know my granddaughter any better than I did 2 weeks ago. I'm sad, angry, and hurt but I'm a big girl and guess I'll get over it!

I do hope for you and your family's sake that your DIL will come around. Ours never has and probably never will. She is a very possessive and controlling person who won't even allow our son to bring the kids over. She threatened divorce 10 years ago when the oldest (a boy who is a gem) was only 6 months old. The other 2 are beautiful girls. We have been through hell and back. As with you, we have always been a close family. This son is our baby and we were always very close. I believe we still are and he is tortured just as much as we are but doesn't know what to do. She makes threats and she makes his life very miserable if he doesn't comply with her wishes. He has told us many times, if he didn't have the kids, he would be long gone. Only her parents are allowed to babysit and they only spend time with her parents and do things with her parents/family. Our son is made to choose between his 3 kids or us. To me, this is not love and it certainly doesn't make a marriage. We see our son and the kids at ball games our grandson is involved in. In other words, events that are open to the community. Sometimes they just get worse and I pray this is not your fate. We are no longer even invited to the birthday parties. We have a hard time understanding why our son puts up with this kind of thing because I know that neither I or my husband would allow this sort of thing to go on with our parents but I know how bad our son wants to keep his family together, at least for the kid's sakes. We (mostly me) have fought for many years to try to obtain what we believe we deserve...that being time with our son and his children...but to no avail. Even when we give in to her demands, she piles on more and more and she has treated us so badly while we continue to respect her simply because she's our son's wife and the mother of our grandchildren. I pray your situation turns out different than ours because I could fill a swimming pool with the tears I've cried. I've been sad, angry and hurt for more than 10 years and I'm still not over it. Good luck to you in whatever decision you make. It won't be an easy one. :)

Visit With NeurosurgeonJan 17, 2012
Well yesterday I ended back up in the ER. My entire spine is numb. They did MRis and I went to see the neurosurgeon. He says it is not my neck and says I have a "central nervous system disorder" and wants me to go back to the neurologist because I have bilateral trigeminal neuralgia. I am so sick of being tossed around I don't know what to do.  Please pray that the previous neuro will see me again. I cannot take any more. Thank you. ...

Doctors VisitAug 13, 2013
My grandson had been complaining of abdominal pain for a few weeks on and off so my grandson made an appointment yesterday with a GI doc, well known in my town. We went to the appointment, I paid the $25.00 copay and it was the shortest doctors appointment I have ever been to. He walked in asked what the problem was and then said well lets schedule some tests to see what is going on. He scheduled both an EGD and colonoscopy on an 18 year old. Never touched my grandson, never felt his belly. ...

Do Doctor's Visit Really Cost This Much?Sep 08, 2016
So, I'm one of those people generally don't go to the doctor unless they are spurting blood across the room, but... A couple months ago, I found a lump in my breast, so I made an appointment with a GYN. I went there, they had me leave a urine sample, he felt the lump, wrote me a referral to a breast surgeon and for a mammogram/ultrasound and told me it would definitely need to be biopsied (freaking me out some more) and that was it. I had the mammogram/ultrasound. His office call ...

People Come To Visit And Act Like They Own The Place?Sep 16, 2010
Spouse's daughter and her family are here from Florida again and I don't think I can handle it. They take over my house. No consideration for the fact that they are GUESTS and not permanent residents. Use my collectable cups instead of the everyday ones, hoard the towels and use them over and over (YUCK) and for some reason have a problem shutting the cupboard doors completely. And I won't even mention that they have an aversion to turning off lights and run the tv in t ...

From The Woman Who Had The 2 Girls VisitOct 20, 2013
I was reading the post on the Gab Board about the person asking how to get trust back in her partner. I was amazed to see that a person on here was guessing about "the one with the 2 girls for summer." Were you not ever told not to assume things? This is the person with the 2 girls for the summer, so you put it. The person writing about the trust issue is not me. I have no trust issues with anyone, certainly not my husband. I have no idea why coming on this board and asking the most simple o ...

Pope/Trump VisitMay 24, 2017
Trump said he "won't forget what" the Pope said to him in their private meeting. And the Vatican put out a nice statement after their meeting saying the two leaders talked about "the promotion of peace in the world through political negotiation and interreligious dialogue" I hope world peace is what he won't forget. I hope that he will stop the incessant attacks and bombing by the U.S. In other news, Trump seems to have taken back that NATO is "obsolete" with a simple statement ...

Keeping Kids Busy While They VisitMar 06, 2013
This summer I am hopefully going to have some little girls come and visit, sisters, one 9 and one 11. I hope they will be visiting for about 20+ days. I will be working part-time while they are here and interested in finding some activities to keep them busy while I am working. I am probably going to get Netflix but do not want to have them just constantly watching movies. I know they like to draw, write letters, do artsy stuff but other than paper, pens, crayons and the like, hoping to get som ...

What Are These Greedy GPs Charging Today For An Office Visit? (sm)Apr 09, 2014
I'm on Medicare.  Can't afford a supplemental plan.  Forced to pay $100 a month for Medicare but wish I could opt out as I cannot afford to use it.  Every time I see the "doctor" (always a NP or PA) by the time Medicare pays their 80% I have a bill of about $156. when I was seen for about 1 minute to get a medication refill, only to have them refuse to refill in 2 months, requiring another office visit where the med I've been on for decades ,and obviously need, is n ...

News Is Casey Turned Down Visit From Her Mother. BafflingJul 11, 2011
Cindy is sounding screwier than her daughter.  Why in the world would Cindy want to see Casey after accusing her son and her husband of incest?  What would they talk about?  Would Cindy want to know about the accidental drowning? Would she ask Casey who hid the body, how it got to the swamp area near their house, who double bagged and duct taped the drowning victim?  Would she ask about the incest?  The commentators are all fired up that Casey would turn down ...
