What are these greedy GPs charging today for an office visit? (sm)

I'm on Medicare. Can't afford a supplemental plan. Forced to pay $100 a month for Medicare but wish I could opt out as I cannot afford to use it. Every time I see the "doctor" (always a NP or PA) by the time Medicare pays their 80% I have a bill of about $156. when I was seen for about 1 minute to get a medication refill, only to have them refuse to refill in 2 months, requiring another office visit where the med I've been on for decades ,and obviously need, is not even discussed! It's just their way of soaking the system with unnecessary charges and office visits. If Medicare is paying 80% for these office visits, that means the "doc" is charging $750. per visit, where I only say one sentence to the doctor "I need a refill of _____".
Have other's experienced these outrageous prices or do I need to find a new clinic?

[ In Reply To ..]My mom is 73 - on Medicare....when I take her to see her doctor, there is a $20 copay. She doesn't have a supplemental plan either. I am not sure what she gets charged per month for Medicare, but I'm pretty sure it's 100 or less. If she needs a refill, we do NOT go into the office--simply call or order it online. She has Kaiser HMO, so I don't know it that is an option for you, but I would look into it if I were you.
And that is infuriating that your doctor would make you make an appt just to get a refill? This kind of stuff makes me so angry.

[ In Reply To ..]I have a Medicare Advantage Plan with Geisinger. I pay a $7.00 copay at my doctor's office. I pay $25.00 to see a specialist. However, first they deduct part B from my SS check, and then I pay $74.00 a month premium to Geisinger. The amounts you quoted are ridiculous to say the least!

[ In Reply To ..]There are no co-pays with Medicare. I'm sure she means her mother has a Medicare replacement plan. You have to pay the annual $147 Medicare deductible (as I'm sure you, Rose, know) before Medicare will pay the 80% of the allowable amount. Then you are responsible for the remaining 20%. With that said, it sounds like your doctors are ripping you off & are possibly guilty of Medicare fraud. Call Medicare's 800 number and see what they think about reporting your doc for insurance fraud.
