Right leg swelling

My poor leg has taken a beating over the years. In 2004 I had the right knee scoped and a bunch of things were wrong with it. In 2009, I fell in the bathtub and sprained my right ankle and ended up having it incised and drained. Four years after that, the foot swelled up and then subsided after about a month. Now, the whole shin is swollen and inflamed with dark patchy spots and it itches like he**. Benadryl and walking seems to help, but when I sit to do my job, the swelling and itching start all over again. I get up every hour and move around for about 5 minutes, but this cuts into my production. I hesitate to see my doc because I've got that crappy Obummercare insurance with a $6000 deductible.

[ In Reply To ..]Is it hot, red and painful? Could the infection have returned? You may need a course of antibiotics. Is it painful like a DVT? I hope you can get some medical help for this. It sounds horrible to have to work with this problem. Maybe elevating and ice would help in the meantime. Hope you get some answers.
Cellulitis - Chi-town Lady
[ In Reply To ..]My boyfriend took me to ER last night because I just couldn't take it any more. Turns out I have cellulitis. They gave me IV antibiotics (Ancef) and sent me home with a script for Keflex. If it doesn't get better or actually worsens, then I have to return and be admitted. Keeping my fingers crossed that doesn't happen.

[ In Reply To ..]Wear an Unna boot. It's basically nothing more than gauze soaked in calamine location, but my husband has used it during times of a leg infection with swelling. It works wonders for him and everything is resolved within a week.

[ In Reply To ..]After only 2 days of treatment, the inflammation and swelling have pretty much gone and there are only a few areas of discoloration left. I plan on spending most of today off my feet to give it even more rest.

For the 2nd time in 2 weeks I have had extreme foot and ankle swellling. Funny enough it has happened exactly a week from the first episode. I used to swell just a little bit from working but by the next morning, it would have subsided. Not these past 2 times.
