Ankle/foot swelling

Posted: Aug 10, 2011

For the 2nd time in 2 weeks I have had extreme foot and ankle swellling.  Funny enough it has happened exactly a week from the first episode.  I used to swell just a little bit from working but by the next morning, it would have subsided.  Not these past 2 times. Last week, I went to the doctor and got some Lasix and even after taking 1/2-1 tablet per day of this, my feet are still swollen 3+.  It is very uncomfortable and unnerving. Should I go back to the doctor or put my feet up and see what happens tonight.  I am concerned that there could be an underlying issue causing the swellling to not subside.  Exactly how dangerous a situation am I looking at here if this continues.

Ankle/foot swelling - not a doctor

[ In Reply To ..]
Do you have any other symptoms? I had ankle and calf swelling that was caused by a medicine I was taking, but didn't know it until I quit taking it (4 years later!). 3+ would concern me enough to at least call the doctor and ask if there is something else you can do even if you don't make an appointment. Definitely think putting your feet up on a pillow or two is a good idea if you don't call the doctor.

I think you should - long time CMA

call the doctor, especially if they gave you Lasix and it is not helping. In the meantime, definitely elevate your feet. When I worked with an internist who specialized in geriatrics, he would have many patients that would have congestive heart failure and if they refused to be admitted, he would have them come in daily for IV injections of Lasix, so yest it can be serious. Also, if the swelling is only on one side and not both, you can get calf swelling from DVT from excessive sitting.

Definitely call the doctor and let us know who you are. Good luck.

Swollen Foot From Foot PedalMay 29, 2010
Recnetly I have noticed that towards the end of my shift, my footpedal foot gets swollen.  It does not hurt, but if I continue working for a few hours after it starts to swelll, it does get pretty uncomfortable.  The swelling takes a few hours to go back down after I quit working and put my feet up.  I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and what they did about it. ...

Inner Ankle PainJun 13, 2013
Hi all, For the last 2 years or so I have been suffering from right inner ankle pain.  It has progressively gotten more and more painful.  I have had x-rays and it shows nothing is wrong.  I am pretty sure it's has to be posterior tibialis tendinitis, but now it's starting on the left ankle.  When I rotate my right ankle in a circle, I can feel a popping sensation that doesn't really feel like it's bone, but it is so terribly sore.  I wondered if may ...

Right Leg SwellingFeb 28, 2016
My poor leg has taken a beating over the years.  In 2004 I had the right knee scoped and a bunch of things were wrong with it.  In 2009, I fell in the bathtub and sprained my right ankle and ended up having it incised and drained.  Four years after that, the foot swelled up and then subsided after about a month.  Now, the whole shin is swollen and inflamed with dark patchy spots and it itches like he**.  Benadryl and walking seems to help, but when I sit to do my job, th ...

So left leg starts swelling..Go to doc, rule out DVT said my valves are bad. His answer, take a baby aspirin a day (I look like I have been in a fight Im so bruised) and yesterday at end of shift my leg is tight swollen and my foot. Of course I elevated it and this morning it is better (not totally down) but I know by end of shift it will be bad again. Anyone have any ideas. Bilateral Wrist Pain And SwellingNov 10, 2010
Okay, I've been doing MT work for about 25 years and never had much of a problem with my wrists that a little R&R didn't fix.  Lately, I've been having pain that seems to start in my wrists, causes my wrists and fingers on both hands to swell, and the pain seems to travel up both of my arms to my shoulder region.  It hurts to even reach overhead to change my shirt. Has anyone else experienced this?  I do editing most of the day, which might be why I've ne ...

What would you have said if Rep. Boehner (and/or other top officials in the republican party) called the Mary Landrieu into a closed door meeting and gave her $300 million to not vote for the bill. Or if they called Rep. Kucinich in behind closed doors and offered him a deal to not vote for the health bill. Or any of the other people that were going to vote for the bill came out of closed door meetings and were given money (sweetheart deals) for their states, and then they changed their vote t ...

Cellulitis Of FootMar 10, 2015
Early Friday morning (day after a blizzard) I swept off the cement steps outside my apartment. They did not appear icy. It turns out they were. I fell down all 4 steps and since Friday have had bad swelling of the foot and ankle. There is also an abrasion on the top of my foot where the cement steps tore away skin. Sunday my friend talked me into going for x-rays. There is no break, but the doctor diagnosed cellulitis. Since Sunday evening I have been on Keflex 500 mg 3 times a day for 1 ...

Sore Ball Of FootSep 28, 2012
The foot I use on the foot pedal is slightly swollen and the ball of the foot is so sore I'm limping. It helps to wear shoes with padding. I do have periphera neuropathy from spinal stenosis which I think causes me to hold my toes in a different position because I can't feel the floor with the front part of my foot. Larger Muscle On Top Of Foot From Work? SmNov 19, 2015
The muscle on top of my right foot is enlarged.  I had thought for years that it was from years of doing transcription.   I transcribed 15 years and have been doing another type of job for two years, but the muscle is still enlarged. I am now starting to worry about leiomyosarcomas and crazy things like that.  It would be reassuring if other transcriptionists have noticed the same muscle enlargement in their "work foot."  ?? ...

DNC Erects 4 Mile 8 Foot Tall Fence Around PhillyJul 25, 2016
To the Democratic National Committee elites, keeping average Americans away from their convention is a good idea, while protecting the southern border from intruding terrorists, rapists and murderers is a bad one. The DNC has erected a four-mile fence around its convention site at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center. (Isn’t it ironic they’re doing so much to protect a site named after a bank?). The fence, which appears to be about 8 feet tall, is intended to keep out any individuals wi ...
