Effexor XR for anxiety and depression...
Posted: Dec 20, 2014
37.5 is the dose. I'm perimenopausal and very anxious and depressed. Has anyone had relief with this med?

Not Effexor - but

fluoxetine. Really helped PMS and perimenopausal stuff.
Effexor made me feel really hyperactive so it escalated the anxiety.
Been menopausal for a few years now and it's wonderful, all the hormone-related stuff has vanished. Something to look forward too!
SSRI Withdrawal - CP

Be very careful when trying to come off of any SSRI. Taper very, very slowly. Symptoms are horrific if not. My mom was on an SSRI when she had lung cancer. She was hallucinating on them. She stoppped the SSRI and the hallucinations stopped.
Good advice...SM - Old Anon

always taper under a doctor's supervision if possible, not on your own.

Depression And AnxietyJan 13, 2011Has anyone been actually treated for depression and anxiety? I have been going to a psychologist, but it seems like it's going to take forever to make any progress! I get just as frustrated and panicky knowing I have to go to an appointment as I do sitting at home wishing for work!
Just wondering if anyone has had any success with therapy, or if anyone has any real life suggestions or stories about how they overcame this illness. I've been feeling helpless and at the ...
Severe Depression And AnxietyMay 16, 2016This is going to be all over the place, but please bear with me. I have to get this out.
I've been fighting severe depression since I lost my dad, and that was in 2011. I went for months and months not even wanting to get out of bed, waking up and immediately having a panic attack. Who has a panic attack when they first wake up?
It seems as thought negative life events have just piled up so far, that I don't have the energy or the motivation to care anymore.

Have You Tried Effexor?May 22, 2012If so, do you consider it helpful? Has it caused ankle edema, breast swelling and/or hair loss? What other side effects have you noticed? I feel I'm at a place where I need something to pull me out of my severe mental anguish and have tried various antidepressants over the years but the side effects always caused me to stop taking them. About 15 years ago I was prescribed Effexor, and immediately I felt an alleviation of anxiety, but the insomnia was awful. I told the prescribing do ...

Panic/anxietyJan 19, 2010Years and years ago, during my horribly traumatic and ugly divorce, I developed panic/anxiety disorder and was treated with medication and counseling. Lately I feel like I cannot manage my stress and am getting headaches, sensation of painful lump in the throat, racing heart, insomnia, all the old symptoms of panic again. I want to go back to the doctor, but there are sooooo many symptoms I don't want him to think I am "crazy" (haha...). How can I address these issues with ...

Vertigo/anxiety/nausea......Been Going On For Almost Mar 21, 2010Semi-controlled on medications. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. I had to go to the ER because I had so much anxiety I thought I would have a heart attack. They just gave me Zofran and valium and sent me home, telling me to follow up with ENT and/or neurology. I had a CT (negative) and an MRI, which I had to repeat because they wanted to get a closer look at my pineal gland. Now, I'm terrified I might have some kind of a brain tumor becau ...

Need Prayer For Anxiety DisorderJul 20, 2014I would really appeciate your prayers for both my daughter and myself. We both suffer from anxiety disorder. I have had this my whole life, and it has made life difficult, but even more difficult is seeing my 23-year-old daughter struggle with this also. Anxiety/panic Attack TechniquesAug 08, 2013I've had medication and it works, but I don't want to go down that road again.
After 3 years of not having any attacks or problems, they're back. :( I don't know why, but I thought the problem was gone forever after I left a troubled relationship. Something went wrong last month and I've been teetering on the edge ever since.
I'm thinking of buying a biofeedback machine. Has anyone tried it?
I've been trying to do meditation and I know it's ...
Adjustment Disorder With Anxiety And Depressed Mood Jun 17, 2015is my (MT-related) dx after finally visiting a shrink last week. One of these days, I'm optimistically hoping to be "adjusted" again, in a new field! Not that I'm not a good MT, I have confidence that I'm very good at what I do, but it's just -- you know.
Thanks for reading. This forum is the only place I have any communication at all with "coworkers," and I can't begin to tell you how much I value it. It lets me know I'm still sane. : ) ...
Depression, What To Do?Sep 22, 2011As horrible as it sounds, I hate my job. We have new QA's and they're horrible. Nine years of working for the same company and I suddenly find myself unable to get out of bed in the morning. I'm so tired all the time and dread working. I'm lucky to have a job and naturally can't quit it but does anyone have any suggestions on how to pull yourself out of this funk? I've started getting out once a day and walking and that takes all I have but t ...
DepressionMar 09, 2010How many people get circumstantial depression from this job? I find working at home is very isolating and depressing. DepressionJun 05, 2010I have had depression for as long as I can remember. For the past few months I have been keeping to myself and avoiding much socialization. As those of you who have major depresssion know, it is a hard cycle to break. I cannot take antidepressants; have tried them all. I become worse and have suicidal ideation on the medications.
There have been several issues in my own life and some also with close family members that are making the depression worse.&n ...
DepressionSep 07, 2013I need prayers and I hate to ask, no idea why. After 12 years of marriage, I don't think I can take it anymore. He's extremely verbally abusive and the weekends are horrible. Depression Is NotMay 20, 2016I remember at the worst of my depression, people would say, even church goers that I was feeling sorry for myself. Then I would get the you are not a victim. I beg to differ about the victim.
At any rate, I got mad when people would say that I was feeling sorry for myself and I stopped going to church if the pastor would say that in a sermon.
That is one of the worst things anyone can say to someone. It is not guilt I felt as much as anger that my own Christian brothers and sisters in Chri ...
Depression, Etc.Jan 18, 2015If I am not mistaken there were those in the Bible who suffered from depression and they followed God.
Now my opinion is that it does not help anyone to say to them that they are having a pity party. That person is trying to explain how they got to feeling as they do. Others can depress you with their actions albeit deliberately or whatever. To criticize anyone going through a hard time by saying this turns me off. I have heard preachers on TV start talking about pity parties.
Okay, lastl ...
MT DepressionSep 08, 2015Anyone just sit and cry doing MT - not because the report is depressing but because you are just so down about your job? Depression In SeniorsOct 19, 2009My boyfriend's parents are quite elderly and mother is slightly demented but alert and oriented most of the time. They sleep until 11 or 12 noon daily and go to bed around 10 p.m. The rest of the time they drive to McDonald's for 2 meals a day and otherwise sit in chairs staring at the TV (which is turned all the way up, rest of the house dark). The father is cranky and argumentative, increasingly so. The family calls them "happy as clams." I see depression -- they would appear to have ...

Depression And The LordJan 10, 2015I have a question. A deeply religious person told me once that people who have depression, have it because they haven't found the Lord.
Explain, please. Does that mean (in their belief )that people with depression are being punished??
Also, I know some very deeply religious Christians who have found the Lord and still suffer terribly from depression. In other words, they found the Lord, but still have depression. So, that doesn't make sense to me.
No Bible quotes, please. ...
Has Anyone Ever Taken A Homeopathic Medicine For Depression?Apr 14, 2011I've tried several of the traditional medications for depression - Prozac, Effexor, and Zoloft. They work for a while, I had some side effects, but then they stopped working and the depression came back every time. I've heard more cons than pros about St. John's Wort, so I'm not sure I want to go that route, but would like to hear from anyone else who has tried the homeopathic route and got good results (or bad, so I know what to stay away from!)
