Foot and Leg Cramps

Does anyone else get foot cramps? They wake me up in the middle of the night and can last for 15 minutes, and are 8/10 on the pain scale, easily. No idea of the cause. Not on any medication.

[ In Reply To ..]I would get toe cramps and/or leg cramps in the middle of the night if my feet are a little too cold, even if you don't feel cold. I had to use a heating blanket on my legs and never got cramps again, although you can get them from walking to much and not stretching or taking potassium, calcium and magnesium supplements and more liquids. Sitting and typing for 8 hours can also cause cramping.

[ In Reply To ..]These wake me also, extremely painful but would not describe as cramps but rather extreme pain on the top of the foot, does not go all the way thru to the bottom. Have had for years, at first the left foot but then about 3-4 weeks ago the same exact thing happened with the right. Oh, well, if not that then I have a levator ani muscle spasm that wakes me in the night and that has now gone on for the past 40 years after I had a hysterectomy. My sleep sometimes is not a good solid night's sleep. I know of nothing that will help the foot issue but I usually get up and with the other foot will stand and put pressure on the one hurting. The last time this happened I used some hot/cold medicated cream and rubbed it down plus took 3 ibuprofen. Doncha just hate it when you have to hunt medicine when you're sleepy?

Recnetly I have noticed that towards the end of my shift, my footpedal foot gets swollen. It does not hurt, but if I continue working for a few hours after it starts to swelll, it does get pretty uncomfortable. The family practice doc I type for has been telling patients to put a bar of Ivory soap under the sheets in their beds to help RLS and leg cramps. I thought "how bizarre" but the patients are swearing up and down that it actually works. I googled it and sure enough, a lot of people are using it. Early Friday morning (day after a blizzard) I swept off the cement steps outside my apartment. They did not appear icy. It turns out they were. For the 2nd time in 2 weeks I have had extreme foot and ankle swellling. Funny enough it has happened exactly a week from the first episode. The foot I use on the foot pedal is slightly swollen and the ball of the foot is so sore I'm limping. It helps to wear shoes with padding. I do have periphera neuropathy from spinal stenosis which I think causes me to hold my toes in a different position because I can't feel the floor with the front part of my foot.
