Zimmerman

Posted: Jul 15, 2013

Watching news over the weekend and especially morning shows today,  it appears lots of protests and pressure on to file federal charges against Zimmerman.

It was brought up by white lawyer/commentator on Today show,  Lisa Bloom, that this indeed was a racial case with Zimmerman profiling black males in 5 previous 911 phone calls (in evidence), yet the prosecution did not want to suggest profling was an issue.

Surprisingly, the groundswell of protestors of the Zimmerman verdict are pretty much equally white and black with some other ethnic groups as well.  The protests are NOT being led by black leaders, Sharpton, Jackson or Obama.

What do you think?  Should feds go after Zimmerman for violation of Trayvon's civil rights?

Something is not right with this case. I believe he instigated it and should do some time for it.

Something not right about Zimmerman - That is obvious

[ In Reply To ..]
Unfortunately the 6 women on the jury did not see things as we do. Zimmerman will not do time UNLESS Feds enter into it for Zimmerman violating Trayvon's civil rights. There is a lot of pressure for them to investigate. This isn't going to go away and this is not just a bunch of rowdy black people demanding justice. The protests are coming from well-educated white people as well as everyday people who are outraged that Zimmerman got away with murder.

I do not agree, but... - see msg

Did whitie go out and stomp their feet when OJ got off, then pull in the federal govt? No.
Why use a slur? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I believe the fed. should have been involved in the OJ trial after he got off. The fact that they didn't doesn't mean they shouldn't do it now.
are you serious? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Notably, neither of the victims' families had to wait around for a month before the police department determined a crime took place.

Furthermore, not only was the OJ crime a completely different type of crime, but OJ never claimed he nearly decapitated two people in self defense. There would be no reason for us white folk to be upset. You get that, right?
EXACTLY - Racism
[ In Reply To ..]
I get so sick and tired of the way this world is. I remember when OJ did get acquitted. I was in college and our entire class went out to a car to turn on the radio and listen. When he was acquitted, the black people jumped and yelled and clapped, etc. This was at the expense of a WOMAN MURDERED, regardless of the color of anyone's skin, she is dead and people are cheering. Now, had a group of white people been cheering and ecstatic about Zimmerman, OMG, the country would have been shut down.

There are MANY, MANY, MANY cases, both black and white people who don't get the justice that I think they deserve. In my state, a black man SAID he hated white people...he SAID this and he killed a white married couple in a parking lot many years ago. Due to the fact that they decided that he must have some type of mental illness, he got 25 years WITH the possibility of parole for his crime. He took the innocent lives of two people, why didn't he get the death penalty? I don't know if the jury was black, white, male or female, but justice was NOT served in this case. I honestly believe if that was a white man that killed a black couple that EVERYONE would have yelled he didn't get the death penalty due to racism.

That's just our justice system in general, no matter your skin color. Child molesters are released while drug offenders are detained. Rather than picking on ONE person, who did have a trial and Zimmerman CLEARLY doesn't make the laws, try changing the laws, argue about the law, lobby your congressmen, etc. That would fix it better than yelling "racism" every five minutes.
Racial slurs are always wrong - Old Pro
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't make racial slurs about any race and I don't appreciate people making slurs about my or anyone else's race.

None of that changes anything - He shot him in self defense

[ In Reply To ..]
Okay, let's reverse this. If a black man had shot a white man, would there be all this hoopla? Hm?? Black men shoot white men all the time, and vice versa. Funny when a white man shoots the black man, though, it's a racial deal.

Give me a stinking break already. Justice was served. Are only black men allowed to shoot people to defend themselves?

Huh? - Opinion

[ In Reply To ..]
If the situation was reversed and Trayvon Martin had followed Zimmerman and murdered him, he would be in jail. You should know this just like 99% of HONEST Americans.

You got a stinking break. The obese Zimmerman is free to kill again. Lots of pesky black teens "up to no good" can be eliminated by Zimmerman and people like him who have been given a license to kill black males.

It's not over. Too many thinking Americans believe Trayvon did not get justice and that is from all walks of life.

You can't be serious. - If Z were black and M white,

[ In Reply To ..]
Z would have been in jail from the get-go!

could you imagine if a 28-yo black man killed a 17-yo white man? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Charges would have been brought instantaneously, as is appropriate. Perhaps we would have found that the 28-yo black man shot in self defense. Perhaps not. Either way, there would have been n-o d-e-l-a-y in charging the shooter.

Should go after the parents for not properly supervising - their son and raising him right. sm

[ In Reply To ..]
If there's any followup lawsuits, that ought to be the first one. The kid was a gangbanging thug just looking for trouble. Doesn't matter black, white, or purple skin.

Sickening that so many of these kids these days of any skin color are allowed to run wild and get themselves into trouble with entitlement attitudes and 'the world owes me' attitudes, then when they get a taste of real trouble, the parents all cry foul on their precious baby who never did any wrong.

Huh? - You know nothing

[ In Reply To ..]
Your mindset is frightening. You know NOTHING of Trayvon's background.

Trayvon was looking for trouble? He was on his way home from 7/11 with Skittles and a cold drink to watch a basketball game when an ARMED Zimmeman was actually looking for trouble so he followed the kid and shot him.

I thank heaven you are in a minority. I am embarrassed you are an MT because I thought MT's were smarter and more logical. Obviously I was wrong. You prove MTs can be racist and without logic.

and you, of course, know everything and have all the perfect answers. - should have been in court to set things right. sm

So many of you are funny with your imaginary law degrees and licenses with minors in ethics, political studies, philosophy, social work, and so on.

why bring profession in this? - Agree with her 100%

[ In Reply To ..]
I think your mindset is frightening. You are embarrassed she is an MT why, because her opinion differs from yours. To be honest with you I agree with her. The parents refused to help police with the investigation from the get go. Why? If someone just killed my son I would do everything in my power to help the police catch the person. I don't know and don't care how he was raised to be honest. Fact is this was not a white on black crime. Zimmerman is Hispanic. Your insults even of Zimmerman calling him fat, etc., is embarrassing. Zimmerman did have injuries although not lifethreatening, but he got them some how, so obviously there was a confrontation between the two. Lastly and most importantly you have Flordia law, the No Back Down law. So since he felt his life was in danger then he had the right to protect himself. If you are on top of me repeatedly hitting me I would think my life was in danger and yes I would shoot too. So if you have a problem with the trial maybe you should take it up with the Florida law makers.

I would feel very protected if Zimmerman was my neighbor. He was found not guilty so whether that is right or wrong its done and over with. He is free to walk the streets and if it happens again then that will have to be dealt with also. Remember innocent until proven guilty. He was proven innocent so why all the hate.

"Followed him and shot him"??? - Not quite

[ In Reply To ..]
The way you make it sound, he was just walking down the street and got shot in the back. There was a bit more to the whole confrontation than that.

And Z wasn't a thug? Domestic violence? - Resisting arrest?

[ In Reply To ..]
Assaulting an officer? Perjury?

This is not "thug" behavior?

do you know how many young men walk home from 7/11? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
And how on earth does walking home from 7/11 represent not being raised right? The kid wasn't a gangbanging thug. There is nothing about this young man that suggests anything about an entitlement attitude. Where do you pull this stuff out of? Do you not realize how biased you are? This WAS someone's precious baby. It's a heartbreaking episode that didn't need to happen. I certainly hope your derisive talk about a dead youth and his family doesn't come back to haunt you.

I am generally very conservative in my opinions - but.....

[ In Reply To ..]
I am sure the Martin kid would not have been my cup of tea nor would I allow my kids to behave in the manner that he was alleged to have behaved previous to this incident, but I do believe that Zimmerman was a gun nut with a chip on his shoulder just dying to have an excuse to use his weapon. As far as I know, walking home from the store, whatever your race, criminal history or age, is not an illegal activity and certainly not punishable by death. My husband disagrees with me, but I know he would not have shot this kid, even if he was getting beaten up. By the way, I am of mixed race and have guns in my house.

Zimmerman - sarmt

[ In Reply To ..]
Let's not forget that Zimmerman and his wife lied about how much money they had early on (taped conversation) while he was in jail. He also had a hidden passport. I heard on news Shelli Zimmerman still has to answer perjury charges. All GZ had to do was stay in his vehicle and wait for law enforcement who would have arrived on scent within minutes. Nonemergency operator said "we don't need you to do that" (follow TM). The man brought a gun to a fist fight. Like Casey Anthony, he will never be able to live a normal life, no matter where he goes in this Country.

Justice is not always served - As we have all seen

[ In Reply To ..]
There have been several high-profile cases lately that bear that out. But our justice system is set up that the defendant is presumed innocent and it's up to the prosecution to prove otherwise. The case wasn't proven; there just was not enough evidence.

It's easy for people to voice their opinions as to who was in the wrong, but I believe if they were on the jury, they would have come to the same conclusion; the evidence just was not there.
