Wedding Ring

Posted: May 12, 2014

Question...  Does anyone have their rings practically permanently stuck on their finger?  My wedding rings have made a dent in my finger (19 years!).  They don't feel uncomfortable at all ,they spin around and I can smoosh them enough to keep em clean,  but I can't really take them off without a lot of soap, oil and a great deal of effort.  I'm worried that one day I won't be able to take them off and they'll require cutting.

Take them off - And do what I did

Take them off before you end up with a problem. I gained a lot of weight over my 38 years of marriage, and finally decided to take them off and leave them off, thinking it would be good incentive to lose weight. I kept thinking I would lose enough weight, and I never did, so I finally had a piece of white gold (which is what mine are) put in.

It's better not to wear them. Cutting them off would not be a good thing, and you'd end up having to put gold (or whatever the metal is) in them anyway to save them, and my way is probably cheaper. I think. Personally, I would not want someone with a saw anywhere near my finger.

One of my bad, bad memories of when my mother was dying of cancer. Her fingers became swollen from the treatments and she had to have the rings cut off. She was in enough pain already and it was awful that she then had to endure that too. It has bothered me so much over the years, I quit wearing my wedding rings 25 years ago.

See msg pls - sm

To the poster who took her rings off because of an unusual experience with her mother, please---you do have to know there's always "warning" before you have to take them off, no matter what the situation.

Don't deprive yourself of those rings because of an unusual situation you observed. If you feel your fingers getting fat for any reason, take them off, then decide to have them fixed--if you can afford it. But don't just take them off for absolutely no reason other than you witnessed something horribly uncomfortable with your mother. Wear them with joy. You will have plenty of time to take them off if they start getting tight!

what a coincidence... - broken rings

Just this last weekend I had to have my wedding rings cut off my finger because about 2 weeks ago I was clearing a fence line on my property and got into some poison ivy which I am extremely sensitive to. My husband can wallow in it like a pig, but I get it extremely bad. Anyway, fast forward a week later of course I am covered with it - my face, legs, stomach, hands, arms. Just everywhere. I am an oozing, dripping mess. I have had it before like this. Well, I had it particularly bad on my wedding ring finger. While doing the yard work I kept saying I needed to take my rings off so as not to damage them. I kept forgetting, left them on, and that one finger became swollen 3x its size and my rings would not budge. I could not even twist them. My finger was an oozing mess from the blisters. I kid you not, swollen about 3x normal size. I told my husband we needed to go to the ER now! We did. My finger had turned purple! The fluid build-up was in my finger, and the rings would not let it escape from the pressure. I was like...cut these rings off!!! It took about an hour b/c my wedding ring is extremely (was) thick. I'm glad I had it done. I like my finger more than my rings.

I wore my ring for 21 years, never taking it off - until

I lost one of the smaller diamonds. I was afraid of losing the larger diamond in the middle and the one remaining smaller diamond on the side, so I decided the ring needed to come off. Except it wouldn't!

Weight gain over the years and some swelling from trying to pry it off with lotion and that dental floss wrapping technique (which didn't work)and it was stuck good. Then tried to ice my finger and keep my hand over my head for 20 minutes but it still wouldn't budge.

I decided the only way it would come off was to lose 5 pounds. So, a month later, it finally slipped off with the help of weight loss and thick lotion.

I got a cheaper (and larger size!) ring from QVC to mimic my wedding ring.

It was a relief to finally get that ring off. I too was afraid of having to get it cut off.

Good luck!

Antidote for poison ivy - sm

When I was young my aunt showed me what poison ivy looked like, and also what the natural antidote looked like. The antidote Jewel Weed grows near the poison ivy. There are pictures and more information in this link.

It also helps to wash immediately after exposure - Seriously

Wash the exposed area with soap and water. Nothing special is required. Even plain water helps.

You just have to do it within a ten or so minutes. Probably faster for you.

I worked about 3-4 days outside. I would stop halfway through and come in and take a bath, change clothes, put fresh clothes on and when I finished for the day do that again - every day. I wore gloves and socks. I was VERY careful! I never got this as a kid, but after my first child I seemed to develop a really, really bad sensitivity to it. Thanks for the suggestions though! I will have to Google the antidote method. I told my husband I will make sure not to get it again b/c it could put me in the hospital the next time. Now, I have to get my rings fixed!
No, you washed after 4 hours. - 15 minutes is the max

You have to wash the stuff off within 15 minutes, not half a day.

A good friend's granddaughter is getting married. I have been invited to the wedding with no plus 1, just me. I have to drive at least 7 hours to get there. My friend will be sitting at the family table. I will know no one else and will be sitting at a table where I know no one. Wouldn't it have been nicer to let me bring a plus 1, or is that the way things are these days? Just trying to figure out what to do here. P.S. I am single and have been for years. ...

Anybody Looking Forward To The Royal Wedding?Apr 26, 2011
Just curious if anyone else will be watching.  I watched Charles & Diana (can't remember if I watched Andrew & Fergie).  Yes, I know, I'm not English (except for ancestors), they've got tons of money while the country is in shambles, and William is the antichrist (LOL), but I just find it interesting.  Wondered if anyone else will watch.  I heard the Queen is hosting the reception.  That would be interesting to be a guest.  Some people find it ...

OPINIONS ABOUT WEDDING CAKEJun 30, 2010
My 25 DD is getting married next June.   She does not want to have a receiving line after the mass which is a Catholic ceromony because she said it is awkard.   So intead she would like to have a receving line at the reception where the guests line up and the bride and groom pass out the cake and then thank people for coming. I am totally against this but she said that is the way it is these days. She has only been to two weddings in her life.   I have not been ...

Talk About Saving Money On My Wedding...Oct 15, 2009
Well, yesterday we went downtown to get our license and our excitement got the best of us.  We ended up having the ceremony performed on the spot and walked out as husband and wife, lol!  Total cost was $79, as compared to the approximately $250 I had managed to shave it down to by having the wedding at our apartment. Well I took it, had my daughter try it on for a laugh, but now I don't know what to do with it. It is in bad shape.
