Tell us about your rings, and is there a story behind it?

My engagement ring was a 1 carat solotaire - sm

My wedding band wraps my engagement ring with 2 round stones on each side and then a row of baquets next to those. I didn't get an eternity ring but I did recently get a 2 1/2 carat solotaire for my b'day! I love them all!

Well I was one of those "non traditionalists" who picked out her own - wedding/engagement ring

I looked..and looked..and looked..and looked. I ended up picking a thick gold band with a 1 carat marquis, a row on each end of small rounds, and a row on baguettes thru the middle. I believe it had 36 diamonds total. It was gorgeous. I loved it. LOVED it.

I was in the hospital this fall and had to have an IV started. I asked my Mom to hold it because it was in the way for the nurse to start the IV in my hand. My Mom put it on her finger. Right before we left she went to the bathroom and it must have slipped off her finger into the trash. On the ride home I asked her for it back and she gasped when she realized she lost it! (My poor Mom cried for 2 weeks over this!) We quickly drove back to the hospital but the trash had been taken (of course! just my luck!!). We went in the basement and sifted thru hospital trash for hours - very disgusting, thank goodness for gloves! We never found it. Either it got put into the compactor within that 45 minutes or someone found it and pocketed it. I filed a report with the hospital but no one ever turned it in. I had insurance on it thank goodness. I went back to where I got it and they no longer carry it so I haven't gotten another yet.

I can't tell you how heartbroken I am. :(

I don't have a traditional diamond ring. I love emeralds. We had only been dating for about 3 months when we went to a jewlery store one day and I found a beautiful ring that I wanted. A few days went by and my now husband told me they had sold the ring. I was upset, but didn't think much of it because we were just in the talking about getting married stage. A few weeks later he asked me to marry him. He had actually bought the ring to surprise me. It's a thick gold band with an emerald in the middle with two rows of small diamonds surrounding the band and the emerald. I love it.

One night my DH to be suggested we get engaged before I moved in with him to soften the blow with my parents (only daughter and we knew they'd be less than thrilled with it). So we went ring shopping that weekend and the 2nd day I picked out a 1/3 carat marquise with 8 square princess cut diamonds (4 on each side). I love it. He wanted to give me his grandmothers fillagree ring, which is just not my style, plus I doubt his mom would have allowed him too anyway. ---glad this thread came up, I'd hidden my jewelry away back in the Summer when we went away and forgot to get it back out. Went to look and I foud 3/4 bags/boxes I'd hidden away for safety and could not find the bag with my wedding band/engagement ring, and some other rings my DH had given me. Totally panicked. They are insured but still don't want to lose them because I forgot where they were. Took me about 10 mins but finally found them. Now to lose the weight I need to so I can actually wear them again. LOL :-)

I didn't want one, and we were married right out of college. We had a very lean bank account in those days. I told sweetie not to bother with an engagement ring, but I think he felt that not giving me a ring would reflect badly on his manhood. So, he gave me what he could afford, a tiny .2 carat solitaire. Since I'm pretty down-to-earth, I wanted a plain gold wedding band, just 2 mm wide.

I now have lymphedema in my left arm and the rings don't fit on my right hand. I don't wear either ring anymore, but it doesn't matter. We recently celebrated our 25th anniversary, and the rings sit in my jewelry box.

Just a simple band because we were young and had a 6-month-old when we married. I kind of thought I'd get that diamond for our 25th anniversary just past, but didn't happen. Still kind of bummed about that.

We literally made the decision to get married within about a 2 hour time frame. At first I didn't want to marry him. Didn't even want to be near him. Was supposed to go to one destination as a group, but nobody showed up. We looked at some brochures and said let's do this instead. Within 3 days we were married. No money for engagement rings. 30 + years later I still don't have one from him. Instead my mother gave me her ring as she is divorced from my dad.

I actually did pick out my own, it is 1/2 carat marquis (however you spell that), BUT I never wear it......instead we went and got our wedding bands tattooed on our fingers, lol, that way we will never lose them:)

When we married, we had tricolored matching bands. I bought carpet instead of an engagement ring. (miss practical here) I guess my husband felt guilty so for 1st anniversary, he bought a diamond band. For 5th anniversary, he bought a pear-shaped diamond engagement ring. During vacation a few years later, we found a diamond wrap that looked perfect with that diamond ring and he bought that. I told him no more rings, please. My favorite will always be our "beginner" matching bands.

Question... Does anyone have their rings practically permanently stuck on their finger? My wedding rings have made a dent in my finger (19 years!). They don't feel uncomfortable at all ,they spin around and I can smoosh them enough to keep em clean, but I can't really take them off without a lot of soap, oil and a great deal of effort. I'm worried that one day I won't be able to take them off and they'll require cutting. ...
