[ In Reply To ..]Although the John Edwards and Rielle Hunter affair was reported on by the National Enquirer in October 2007, there had been whispering in certain political circles about the affair, and the first mention of it in print appeared in the New York Post in August 2007. The Post didn't publish the names, but anyone reading it who had the least bit of knowledge of political candidates knew who was being discussed. At that point, tabloids and Internet blogs began discussing the issue.
In September 2007, Sam Stein, a political reporter with The Huffington Post named Hunter and reported that Hunter's web documentaries regarding Edwards were taken off the Internet.
On October 10, 2007, The National Enquirer published an article which claimed that Edwards had engaged in an extramarital affair with a female campaign worker but did NOT publish the name of Hunter. The same day, Sam Stein published another article in The Huffington Post that contained additional details including Hunter's name and the web videos. The following day, New York magazine published a piece linking Rielle Hunter to the Enquirer allegations that did NOT name her.
So the Enquirer was NOT the first to report the affair nor were they the first to publish the name of Rielle Hunter, and the article they published about John Edwards already had legs on Internet blogs before they named Edwards in print. The Enquirer is not so much the hard hitting journalists they appeared to be, but they did waste no time printing the gossip already discussed in the New York Post and being talked about on political blogs.
As for the ring, even the slugs at The National Enquirer are intelligent enough to deduce that a politician who has a longstanding issue of repeatedly facing and having to deny baseless rumors that he is a Muslim would not choose to openly wear a ring that actually proved the rumors he repeatedly denies. Interesting too that the same people who criticize Obama as being a committed disciple of the Reverend Wright (who is a Christian) also believe with equal fervor that Obama is a devout Muslim intent on destroying the US while also being an atheist who wants to take God off the US currency. Yep, silly stuff.
