Can't seem to part with mother's 65-year-old wedding dress...help...

My sister was cleaning out her attic and found my mother's old wedding dress from 65+ years ago. She asked if I wanted it and I said I at least wanted to look at it. Well I took it, had my daughter try it on for a laugh, but now I don't know what to do with it. It is in bad shape. It's all wrinkled and the lace is crunchy, but the main fabric is a lovely heavy satin (although yellowed and stained). My mother hated it and I sent her a pic of it and she still hates it. She said she just bought the cheapest dress she could find. It has no special memories because of that and the fact that my parent's marriage was not a happy one. I could donate it, but I'm not sure anyone would want to buy it from the thrift store because it's in such bad shape. I don't know why I'm having such a hard time throwing it out. Any suggestions?

since it's "supposed" to have special meaning, but since it has no special meaning for your mother and it was not a happy marriage, it's just an old dress. I would toss it... assuming you do have other things that hold special meaning for you from your mom. If that's all there is, then maybe you might want to keep it.

I have a pin that I gave my mother when I was a little girl. I shopped for it with my dad so it has special meaning for me of both of my parents. I think that's a better keepsake than the dress.

I suggest that you cut a piece of lace and fabric that could possibly someday be used in the making of a ringbearer's pillow, and then toss the dress.

Granted, it was my dress, not my mom's. But my marriage ended in divorce and I was happy to give the dress to the local theatre company. They always appreciate clothing that they can use as costumes in plays and musicals.

Crafters love old wedding dresses for the appliques, lace and use the rest of the dress material for handmade flowers.

I'm sure you could e-bay it and it would be snatched right up. Even stained. Some crafters tea dye the lace anyway for a vintage look.

My new parttime job is at one of those electronic stores where everyone wears khakis and polo shirts or short sleeved cotton shirts with the store name on them. A good friend's granddaughter is getting married. I have been invited to the wedding with no plus 1, just me. I have to drive at least 7 hours to get there. My friend will be sitting at the family table. I will know no one else and will be sitting at a table where I know no one. Question... Does anyone have their rings practically permanently stuck on their finger? My wedding rings have made a dent in my finger (19 years!). The dress material is very sheer so will have to wear undergarments. I am trying to make a choice between an extra long slip or long undergarment pants, one chosen would be worn with a nude colored camisole. Any thoughts on which to choose? TIA ...
