yourselves and your loves ones...

What do you have and where do you keep it so you'll have it whenever needed? How about places that don't allow them. Do you ever get challenged or have it confiscated.

I'm thinking of getting some kind of Kimber (a friend of mine swears by them). The only way I can see having it if and when I need it is with some sort of holster so it is on my body at all times. My state allows concealed and nonconcealed carry permits, but you must take a training course (which of course I would anyway).

I'm wondering how a shoulder holster would work with my 42DDDs. I thought about keeping it in my purse, but I don't always have that with me.

I don't what one with a really long snout on it, but I do want it to do the job if I'm attacked or invaded.

I'm open for any advice.

Maybe it was the thought that you were going to put a gun up by your 42DDDs, or maybe just you saying that you want it to "do the job" or maybe that I suddenly feel unprotected, but either way, I literally got shivvers. My daddy always told me "Never use a weapon that could be taken and used upon you," and knowing that most attackers are men, I know they could over-power me and take my weapon, potentially using it on me instead.

Sorry I am no help... but I am just freaked out now.

Married to a guy whose grandchildren came over and eventually lived with us for awhile. The grandchild asked me 1 day what did I have for protection and my reply was "I dont have any, do not feel the need for any." He then went on to tell me about how many guns his maternal grandmother had in and around her. I told her if someone comes to my yard that is not invited, I just call the police. Older chick here and never have thought I needed to carry a gun nor have at the house.

keep in a boot, a pocket or even the old garter belt derringer. I feel if you are packing for self-defense there is simply no reason to have something that could bring down an elephant or fire more than 1 or 2 rounds. Also you would be less likely to be up for murder if you ever did have to use it.

the temptation to use it on myself would be far too great.

Another reason not to keep one is that it often invites break-ins. People who use guns for crimes prefer stolen guns that are registered to someone else.

I think good locks, an alarm system, and a big dog are far better crime deterrents.

If I need added protection, I just carry pepper spray. Cheap, easily available, far fewer legal ramifications to using it, and it's highly effective. (I've accidentally sprayed myself. It WORKS.)

I am a big time proponent of BANNING personal handguns.

When I posted that recently, I got totally blasted by people who felt they were entitled to guns to protect themselves.

Why do these people think they will have the weapon when they need it or it won't be taken from them by someone who will use it on them.

To make a point? What point? That people who don't like guns should dictate what other people who need them for protection or hunting should and should not own. So that you can justify your point of view?

and clips that hold 30 bullets should be legal IMO. I don't recall anyone saying a person should not own a handgun for personal protection or guns for hunting. Do you know anyone who uses an assault weapon to hunt? I want these gun shows to require strict background checks, I want a ban on assault weapons and large clips or drums. I want all guns licensed. Of course nobody thinks they are insane and everyone else is. "Insane" is just your viewpoint.

I think taking away guns from responsible citizens while you stock up on millions of round of hollow point ammunition is insane, but again, that's my viewpoint. I thought the breaking into a home with knives (not guns) was insane, again that's my viewpoint.
