What with all this talk about guns did y'all know (sm)

Posted: May 2, 2013

that while Newtown parents were appearing with Obama as props in his push for gun control and violating our rights, that when offered a budget that would have them pay for armed security at schools, they rejected it.  Interesting, huh?  They want us to pay for it, but they're the ones with the murdered children and they don't want to pay.  Something definitely wrong here.

I'm not sure what you're speaking of. Can you link us to a - story about this?thxNM

...when someone accuses American citizens of being props when they lobby their Congress. We've had this discussion before, and you may be bringing this up to challenge me, among others, who strongly disagree with this viewpoint.

Just because the very thought of firearms is so understandably abhorrent to them, and in this particular case the President agrees with that viewpoint, does not make them props. It makes them American citizens who have the right to lobby their Congress on any subject whatsoever they feel strongly about, just like you, as an individual American, have that right.

That doesn't make them props. That makes them Americans taking hold of the freedoms that this great country offers and using them as they were meant to be.

I reiterate, one doesn't have to be a money-grabbing and throwing large corporation to partake in these freedoms. They are for everyone.

Not all the Newtown parents were for stricter gun laws but - those parents were not included

They didn't agree with those who are. Why would you group yourself with differing opinions and beliefs? There is a group who are not for stricter gun laws, who I am sure would have been more than happy for those with similar views to join. They, as well, have every right to lobby for THEIR views. Whether they chose to go or not was entirely their decision.

Koch Bros/Tea Partiers. Not grieving parents who lost their children due to gun violence trying to do something about it.

It looks like you're not gonna post a link to what you're talking about, but my guess is that the Newtown families are not necessarily for the whole armed security in schools thing... Not that they didn't want to pay for it (are you seriously insinuating that they're being cheap??). Many folks don't believe that the solution to gun violence is more guns...I'm raising my hand here.

That was my exact thinking when I asked for - the link

It seems logical they would be against the NRA push for militia school protection.

Sometimes the answer to gun violence IS more guns. See, these nutjobs go to places like schools because they know they are gun-free zones.... nobody will be there who can challenge them. If there were armed guards and armed staff in schools, do you think anyone would dare to go in and wreak havoc?

And going back to Obama and his props... does anyone recall when he was trying to pass Obamacare, when he had all those white-coated doctors standing behind him? Even though most doctors hate the whole idea of Obamacare... Or how about the young boy who stood next to him as he signed that law? Yes, he uses props.

Of course he uses props - every chance he gets (sm) - Phony baloney

American Medical Assocation, American Academy of Family Physicians, and American College of Physicians all support Affordable Healthcare Act as being a big step in the right direction. I guess all those doctors aren't real?? The fact is that the reaction is mixed among physicians overall, as one would expect.

But my doctor isn't in it for the money. He genuinely cares about people and donates his time speaking at a lot of different conferences.

I like my doctor and wouldn't want to be treated by anyone whose greed for wealth overcame his/her true desire to help people.

The United States Military Commissions Act of 2006,[1] also known as HR-6166, was an Act of Congress[2] signed by President George W. Bush on October 17, 2006. The Act's stated purpose was "To authorize trial by military commission for violations of the law of war, and for other purposes."[3]

It was drafted following the Supreme Court's decision on Hamdan v. Rumsfeld (2006),[4] which ruled that the Combatant Status Review Tribunals (CSRT), as established by the United States Department of Defense, were procedurally flawed and unconstitutional, and did not provide protections under the Geneva Convention. It prohibited detainees who had been classified as enemy combatants or were awaiting hearings on their status from using habeas corpus to petition federal courts in challenges to their detention. All pending habeas corpus cases at the federal district court were stayed.

In Boumediene v. Bush (2008), the US Supreme Court held that the MCA was unconstitutional because of its restrictions of detainee rights. It determined that detainees had the right to petition federal courts for habeas corpus challenges.

Guns And Intrinsic Danger. Or, "guns Don't Kill, People Kill"Dec 15, 2012
If I were at a party, left the adults and put a nerf ball in the familiy room where the children were playing, nobody'd think anything of it. If I put a loaded gun in there, every adult would rush to get it before the children did. THAT IS BECAUSE GUNS ARE INTRINSICALLY DANGEROUS. The only thing that changed was the presence of a gun, but no one would claim it was actually the children who were dangerous. Suicides by gun are much more likely to result in death than ANY of the other usual ...

Americans Never Give Up Your Guns!Jan 10, 2013
Americans never give up your guns 28.12.2012   By Stanislav Mishin  These days, there are few things to admire about the socialist, bankrupt and culturally degenerating USA, but at least so far, one thing remains: the right to bear arms and use deadly force to defend one's self and possessions.
