Rush is right - as usual (sm)

Posted: Mar 26, 2014

The Hobby Lobby case will come down to how Kennedy feels on the day the vote is taken.  No more, no less.  Since HL is only objecting to the 4 forms of birth control out of 20 that cause abortion, I don't see what the problem is.  There are 16 forms of BC left, in addition to holding an aspirin between your knees.  He didn't say that last part, I did.

"The Supreme Court has completed the quasi-religious ritual of oral argument in the Hobby Lobby case, which will decide whether a corporation can declare its piety and thus absolve itself of the need to follow laws it finds unworthy of divine blessing. Now all we need do is wait for Anthony Kennedy to deliver his judgment, and the question will be settled."

"As far as I can tell, there isn't a conservative anywhere who isn't taking Hobby Lobby's side in this case, despite the radical reimagining of the First Amendment they propose. Of course, the case involves more than just contraception, but I haven't seen anyone on the right say, for instance, that while they stand with Hobby Lobby in principle, all the publicity this case is getting is just one more thing convincing Americans that they're anti-contraception, and that's not going to do them any favors politically. Quite the contrary-from what I can tell they have no fear of any backlash."

that it's only 4 forms of birth control out of 20 that this company objects to? Only 4! I guess I don't get what the big deal is - the government cannot control every aspect of everything!!

Thank you. I just came back to post something (sm) - Trying again

similar as my original post used a "banned phrase." What I was trying to say is pretty much exactly what you said. MANY PEOPLE who are criticizing this religious freedom case don't realize that it is not birth control that the Republicans are against, it's only the 4 METHODS that cause ABORTION that Hobby Lobby is objecting to. I don't know why this is such a hard concept to follow. Maybe it's because it's because the Democrats WANT everyone to believe that Repubs are against birth control - that is not what this is about. It might help if the MSM would report on this, but of course they don't - as they are all left wingers. There, I didn't use any banned phrases that time. Ok, moderator?

No, they don't understand this. - LM

medications that are a lot more important than Plan B. Also, the morning after pills are OTC - why should insurance cover them at all? Isn't that like saying I have sinus problems sometimes so my insurance should cover my Sudafed? I just don't get what the big deal is.

But it's not just contraception...sm - Tanya

It goes further than that. Suppose a corporation is owned by people whose religion doesn't allow blood transfusions. Are they allowed to deny life to someone based on their beliefs?

A corporation has no religion and thus cannot claim a religious exemption for any health procedure, whether it's birth control or life support or blood transfusions. That was brought up by the Supreme Court justices.

Once Hobby Lobby's owners incorporated to protect themselves in case of bankruptcy or lawsuits, they lost the right to dictate health care for their employees.

"A corporation has no religion." I feel this is how - it should be.

[ In Reply To ..]
And I agree with you about the blood transfusions-my family are JW's and do not believe in them. The lines get really blurry once we allow religion to make health decisions for employees.

Exemptions for non-profits. So what you're saying is - a non-profit IS a person? Corporation not?

[ In Reply To ..]
Splain please.

There should be no exemptions...sm - Tanya

[ In Reply To ..]
No exemptions, nonprofit, church, religion, none. And churches and other "nonprofits" should pay at least the school tax portion of property taxes.
But Obo has given nonprofits exemptoins. So the question stands. - me

to predict that this conservative-majority Supreme Court will once again rule in favor of corporations so Mr. Limbaugh, I'm sure, will be back to crow about it.

Polls have shown that as many as 68% of women oppose corporations having decision-making powers over their personal health decisions, but apparently the 32% is well represented on this board.
68% of women... - Laura
[ In Reply To ..]
If 68% of women don't want their employer to have any say in their health care, then those 68% of women should not take health insurance coverage through their employer and get it somewhere else - there are choices people - if you believe in abortion, don't work for Hobby Lobby. How many people realize that there is Christian music playing in Hobby Lobby stores? Will that be the next thing that someone objects to? That their rights are being stomped on because they have to listen to Amazing Grace while they shop? We live in a free country - shop somewhere else or go work somewhere else. So far, I haven't heard any Hobby Lobby employees stand up and say they are being treated badly. Didn't I just read that Hobby Lobby pays their employees pretty good?
that's just not the way it works - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Historically, your employer doesn't get to pick and choose covered services. It's not like an employer can choose not to cover pregnancy because they feel it's too costly, they are against, it, or their workforce is postmenopausal. Employers don't get to choose not cover Zovirax because they disapprove of genital herpes.

It's not like the cost of insurance to the employer changes by standardizing covered services. Folks at Hobby Lobby who choose not to use contraception are not having their religious rights trampled. Rather, folks who work at Hobby Lobby are having their medical rights infringed upon by their employers' religious beliefs, which should not come into play where medical insurance is concerned.
Brava! You hit the nail squarely on the head! - nm

That's exactly what I did - NK
[ In Reply To ..]
While they have the right to play whatever music they wish in order to inflict their religious views on every consumer, I have the right to shop somewhere else so I stopped going in there for overpriced silk flowers over a year ago. I hope the other 68% percent follows suit to protest Hobby Lobby's and the Mennonites' birth control edicts that the morning after pill and IUDs are, in fact, abortions.
