Strange question - do you type with your legs crossed?

Posted: Jun 11, 2010

Somehow I got into the habit of doing this years ago and now I can't type with both feet on the ground anymore.  I had an awful time during the 4 months I spent in the cam walker with the broken foot last year because I couldn't cross my legs (right foot was broken, had to prop it and use the left foot).

Anyone else with this strange habit?  I use the pedal with my right foot and have to have my left leg crossed over.

I also can't stand to have the little things on the back of the keyboard up - my keyboard has to be flat.

Any other weird quirks here?

because I would type with my left (or right) leg up in my chair with my head resting on my knee. I've gained some weight now so I can't quite do that comfortably, but I still tend to cross my legs, or put my leg up on the desk or whathaveyou. Or I get REALLY comfortable and slouch way down and put my foot up on the garbage can under my desk. I have a really big smooshy chair, so that helps. I can't sit with both feet on the ground either ;-)

I cross my legs too! - sm

I usually always cross right over left and then my left ends up swelling some during my work day. I TRY to break the habit, but almost feel like I would fall forward if they weren't crossed, wierd, lol.

Oh and the little things on the back of my keyboard HAVE to be up or I can't type.

I don't cross my legs, but... - Old part-timer

I have my feet up on a little platform, maybe 2 inches high and I can't wear a shoe on my "pedal foot" so I walk around with one shoe on and one off. (My other foot gets cold if I don't have a shoe on it!)

And I too HAVE to have the little things up on the back of my keyboard and my keyboard has to be on the very edge of my desk. I recently got a new keyboard that has shorter legs in the back so I have them propped higher right now with a road map and Post-It notes on one side and just Post-It notes on the other!

I used to sit on my "spare leg" - MarineMom

I used to be a legal transcriptionist before medical. I used to be in an office that was too cheap to buy me a new chair (I'm only 5 feet tall), and I had to sit with my left leg underneath me to be tall enough. Yeah, I know it sounds pathetic :) Anyway, it took a LONG time to break that habit, as I would come home and sit that way too. Now I can't do it at all cuz it hurts or my entire leg falls asleep. Sometimes I have a box under my desk that I put my foot on, but usually it's underneath my chair on spoke with the wheel on it.

I still do that! - Eurosepsis

When I first started in transcription (almost 30 years ago), our office in the hospital literally used to be a storage closet and there were 3 of us in there along with the old dictation tank. We had a shelf along the wall that we used as our desk so all of our belongings and reference books had to be at our feet. I started sitting on my left leg to give myself some room and now I can't type if both of my feet are on the ground. God knows I've tried, but I can't stop concentrating on my leg (lol).

My keyboard has to be flat, too. In fact, I had to look to see if my keyboard had the little legs to prop it up.

I don't cross my legs, but I do have a foot stool under my desk. I change right to left foot once in a while, but the foot that isn't using the pedal has to be up on the stool.

and keyboard flat. The problem is, if I get really involved and sit for a long period of time, my legs go to sleep worse than ever! I can't help it! I am surprised I don't drive with my legs crossed, now that would be something :)

this is really weird. Why would somebody - sm

cross one's legs when operating a foot pedal? Does this even work?

I can totally relate, i do sometimes cross my legs. my chiro told me it was bad to cross your legs all the time and he asked me how i do it whilst typing and using the foot pedal. i told him that i adjust the keyboard tray just a little higher and i can cross..cus i'm little too. or sometimes i swivel my chair right and left if its getting to a be long report...but its interesting to hear what others do :)

ps. I ALWAYS have to be eating or drinking!

So-- I'm in the dentist's chair all afternoon, having $2000 worth of work done. At the end, he asks me what kind of milkshake I would like from the restaurant chain down the street. I say no thanks. Which is the last thing I feel like eating, but I take it, to be polite. And give it to a family member. Who wants something frozen tou ...

What Type Of Bread Is Okay??Aug 19, 2012
Hi all, I'm trying to be healthy lately. I've lost 18 pounds just being good.  Part of my reason for wanting to be healthy is, besides my weight, high sugar (not diabetes yet) and high cholesterol. I stopped eating white bread. I thought I had it made with whole-grain bread, since I love it, but then I read here and other places that it's not good, particularly in terms of insulin production. I also know that wheat has morphed such that I almost may as well be eating white ...

I posted earflier about how my local cable TV/internet/telephone company started blocking TV channels unless you rent a "box" from them.  I lost my temper and broke my bundle.  I cancelled TV and phone, ordered Direct TV, moved my phone # to a tracfone, and left internet intact because it's fast and high quality. It turns out that Direct TV couldn't get a "line of sight" to their satellite and so couldn't install.  I called Dish Network, and they're supposed t ...

Strange Things Happening Today, Got A Haint At My House I GuessNov 28, 2009
