I just learned that under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) companies with greater than 50 employees are required to offer insurance to all employees who work an average of 30 or greater hours per week. My company offers us insurance but you have to meet a production requirement consistently in order to qualify for this, and I know a lot of MTs struggle with this production requirement and therefore even if they work 35-plus hours per week they may not make the production requirement to earn any benefits. I wonder if this will change now with the Affordable Care Act stating that anyone working 30-plus hours a week is full-time and has to be offered insurance. Even though we are paid on production, my company does require us to fill out a timecard based on hours per day, week, pay period, so this is what they have to report to the government (from what I understand) regarding our full-time/part-time status. Has anyone else heard of this part of the ACA or seen any changes made in their company because of this?
