A bill to provide an incentive for businesses to

Posted: Jul 31, 2014

Blocked by 42 Republicans (see link below for senate roll call).

This is a bill that would have potentially helped our profession of medical transcription by disallowing tax breaks for such as the big MTSOs on their overseas operations.

They won't even let the teeniest incentive to get jobs back here come to a vote.

I have come to the conclusion Republicans do not want Americans to have decent jobs, they also want to cut any benefits due to them taking away our jobs.

What exactly do they want? What's their plan to for the middle class (in our case, slipping to the lower-middle class and further)?

They are just for corporations and the rich, how else do you explain this?

USNEWS.COM

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican senators have blocked an election-year bill limiting tax breaks for U.S. companies that move operations overseas.

The bill would have prevented companies from deducting expenses related to moving their operations to a foreign country. The bill also would have offered tax credits to companies that move operations to the U.S.

Democrats championed the bill, saying it would end senseless tax breaks for firms that ship jobs abroad.

Republicans called the bill an election-year stunt. They noted that Democrats tried to pass a similar bill two years ago, right before the last congressional elections.

The White House says President Barack Obama supports the bill.

And wish you guys would give it a try before you wait for a signal about how to think from your leader.

Honestly, I guess anyone who can stomach listening to Rush Limbaugh for any length of time (not that I'm saying every conservative does, just that they are the ONLY ones who can bear it) is also wanting to be a "dittohead," to be told exactly how to think on every subject.

You really can use your own brain, you know, you don't need someone else to tell you how to think.

On this issue, for example, the real issue is that companies (like MTSOs) are getting tax breaks for setting up shop overseas and this bill was an attempt to bring them back simply by taking AWAY the tax breaks MTSOs get for hiring people to oversee operations in India and OFFERING tax credits for bringing back those jobs to the US.

That's the simple fact, so even if you love business and hate taxes, as an MT this is something you should be for and you should encourage your senator to at least push for these small efforts.

Those MTSOs are not in India to save on their taxes, they are there because they get multiple MTs for the price of one and for this they get tax breaks and no penalties?

This has to be a no brainer, so why you need someone to tell you how to think (or more importantly to attempt to justify the Republican game plan of No No No) is bewildering to those of us who actually read the short bill and can see nothing objectionable and, in fact, those of us who ARE MTs and want action taken to stop the thievery.

Can you think for yourself, are you an MT? Read the bill and come to your own conclusions then.

[ In Reply To ..]
The problem with so much of what the radical right posts is that it's pure fiction and not remotely "intelligently formed," and simple common sense usually disproves it. "Faux News" (since you brought it up) is a propaganda news channel. They lie about all manner of things to advance their political agenda, and the bleating sheeple believe it and repeat it without question.

A recent lie, for instance, when Malaysian MH17 was shot down, the propaganda machine immediately started in with their criticism of Obama and how he was doing nothing and still going on vacation, saying Reagan immediately stopped his vacation when something similar had happened during his presidency in 1983 (a plane shot down carrying 260+ people, including 53 Americans, 1 a member of Congress). So finally Chris Wallace has to break in and inform the bleached blond and the other 2 idiots the truth. The truth is that Saint Reagan was on a 25-day vacation at the time (not a typo--yes 25 days), and no he did not immediately return to Washington (see link). He even wrote in his diary how he hated to leave his vacation to return to Washington.

It's pathetic the propaganda that is spread to further a political agenda, and the retelling of the lies on this board is equally pathetic and mind boggling.

What is the purpose of a business? To make - money. I'm so sick of years
[ In Reply To ..]
of portraying business as evil. We had a small car repair business, doing well, but the taxes and regulations kept us from growing and hiring so we sold our business.
Sen. George McGovern left the public sector - and opened a business,
[ In Reply To ..]
after that he found out how hard it was to comply with crushing regulations and changed his tune on legislation. Of course, he was in the private sector then.
I'm so sick of years of government being portrayed as evil. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Businesses have been benefiting from direct government grants, aid for corporate research and development, subsidized loans and insurance, tax loopholes and tax breaks, and discounted fees for use of public resources for years. They don't mind this corporate welfare one little bit. Businesses get tax breaks for accelerated depreciation and no taxation whatsoever of profits earned abroad. State and local governments also have corporate welfare programs and reduced tax rates to attract businesses to their areas.

Besides all these direct subsidies, businesses get many indirect and hidden government subsidies from local, state, and federal governments creating and maintaining roads, bridges, harbors, navigable rivers, clear water facilities, waste disposal facilities, airports, etc. Then there's education. Companies need skilled and well-educated employees. The public education system, well-funded schools, a clean environment, public funded parks and cultural activities also help to attract skilled workers to an area.

Then there's also direct government funded research and development. ExxonMobil sure doesn't mind the taxpayers' dollars being given to them to the tune of billions of dollars a year, and they will be quite happy with all the pipeline projects they can get the government to foot the bill for. It only helps their profits which are booming, while the little guy whose taxes they're taking are getting the shaft by them. Other big businesses certainly don't mind these government hand-ups into the private sector either. Direct government research and development is approximately $100 billion a year. Drug companies benefit hugely from billions of dollars a year in government research paid for by taxpayers. Listen to the constant whining about Obamacare costs as these drug companies benefit year in and year out from taxpayers' dollars paying for drug and medical research. They're not thrilled about the taxpayers benefiting from taxpayers' dollars; they're more concerned about their hand-ups from the working man's wages.

Republicans don't see these companies getting billions of taxpayers' dollars as takers; they see the American taxpayer as takers. Republicans don't mind hand-ups at all that have been going on for decades and decades at the taxpayers' expense to benefit big business, but just listen to them whine about corporations having to pay taxes. Corporations' idea of fair taxation is government giving them handouts from workers while benefiting from all that government has to offer.

The hypocrisy is staggering.
You may not see it, but the evil was still there, - all the same. Our govmt. is CORRUPT,

[ In Reply To ..]
but when a government takes over the role of "charity" they take away our responsibility and assume the role themselves, and it usually winds up being those receiving from the govt vote people in who promise more.

We are all hurt by this, because as taxes go up we tend not to donate as much. We just don't have the disposable income to do it. And the people who could have been helped are hurt by it, too.

What a load of complete garbage! - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Just because a person doesn't think government is evil does not mean that person is enjoying dependency. This is where the radical right seems to have a complete disconnect. Contrary to what you seem to think, there are a great many of your fellow "conservatives" who get government handouts, all the while complaining about the so-called "takers" when they resemble the definition. Not every liberal gets a government benefit. I get NOTHING and have NEVER been on food stamps or unemployment or received ANY type of government handout whatsoever: NOTHING, EVER.

Try to learn to accept the fact that not everyone fits into the neat little boxes conservatives wish them to. Republicans are takers too, and some of the biggest government benefits go to corporations and are hand-ups.
Indeed. - See msg.

Government always grow into a tyranny. Businesses - who are run by immoral
[ In Reply To ..]
people are no better.

There are rules for both if you are a person of faith. Weights and measures is a parable for how to treat people in business. Big business now is in bed with the government (both parties). Small business is the one who gets hurt.

The prophet Samuel warned us about the path to tyranny when Israel wanted a king. If you an atheist, Thomas Paine wrote Common sense.

The Tower of Babel is also an excellent example. Even if you aren't religious, the moral of the story is timeless.
Government can print money and all these - other entities you mention
[ In Reply To ..]
cannot. I'm for small government, but the items you mention are not the role of government to begin with.

Your whining about Republicans is humorous. The two party system we have now is really both sides of a coin, other than a few small govt hold outs.
My dad had an auto business. He paid his taxes, - paid his employees well, and - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
did VERY WELL. He was rich, but he broke no laws getting there. He didn't take the profits solely for himself and not the workers. As the business grew, so did the employees' salaries. He paid a lot of taxes - probably a disproportionately large amount, when you compare his business with a big corporation, which pays few, if any. He may not have been happy about it, but it still didn't lessen the need for employees, and there were never layoffs at his place.
He isn't the "big business" being described - as the takers.

This is a bill about NOT rewarding companies for doing things that hurt USA jobs and trying to reward companies by offering tax CREDITS for those who relocate back here in the US.

But, of course, pointing this out is just another crazy right wing tactic....right NJ? ...

Does Anyone Use Bill Pay Through Their Bank?Feb 16, 2010
I am thinking of using bill pay through my bank and my question specifically is if whether anyone has had a problem with it...any kind of problem...did the check get out late?  any problems with delivery or lost checks?  I would like to set up my mortgage payment but worry it would get lost in the mail. ...

Is It Even Possible To Repeal A Bill That Has BeenMar 25, 2010
passed by the House and the Senate and signed by the president? Did this EVER happen?  To my knowledge, not. Where are the Republicans going?  Resorting to violence?  What a shame! BTW: Bush never vetoed a bill.  He signed each one and then  added "signing statements," and made his own rules, circumventing the Constitution, claiming wrongly that he could do this since he  had the highest executive power. ...

READ THE BILL!!!May 14, 2010
So Eric Holder has done nothing but criticize the AZ immigration bill but admits he has never read the 10-page bill.  How can you criticize something when you haven't even read it.  How can you give factual information about what is contained in the bill if you haven't read it?  Seriously.....what is it with dems?  They pushed Obamacare through and most of them...if not all...didn't read the bill.  However, the pubs and many citizens who were concerned abo ...

Bill Press?Jun 12, 2012
Never heard of this guy before. He sounds like quite a tool.  He was listed #77 of "Most Important Talk Radio Hosts" by Talkers magazine in 2012.  No big surprise there.     Talk show host, Bill Press, doesn’t like the Star-Spangled Banner. Imagine: a liberal talk show that’s not on NPR! His radio show is simulcast on Current TV. Bill Press likes provoking conservatives, but I’m not sure we should be provoked by his outburst against the National Ant ...

Healthcare BillJun 29, 2012
This healthcare bill only has a few good things in it, but it was passed so it can insure 30 million people in america that don't have health insurance.  there are 300 million people in the united states.  The healthcare bill is not about health care or insurance at all, it's about making the government more powerful.  Now they can tax our behavior.    It's about expansion of government.  Exerting behavioral control over american people.  Th ...
