Hey, I just wanted to let all those below who gave me good advice that

Posted: Jan 24, 2014

two evenings ago, my daughter and I were having a pretty good time together and so I asked her what she would feel about going to a support group called Alateen.  She asked me what it was and I told her its a group of kids who have an alcoholic parent or family member that they have to deal with.  I told her we could go once and check it out and she doesn't have to talk, just watch and listen.  She got real quiet and I said "what do you think?"  She said "I think that's a good idea."  So we are going to our first meeting next week.

I just felt like it was a little breakthrough for us.  One step closer to her being less angry with me.  :)

That is wonderful.

The goal, though, is not to have her not angry with you; the goal is for her to be well. If her becoming well means she can express anger towards you (in a controlled environment), then so be it. She does have a right to be angry with you for making a bad choice, then having to put her through the loss through your bad choice.

Your daughter is number 1 now and she should not have to take care of your anger; she needs to understand her own, of which is most entitled to. DO NOT make your child feel guilty for being angry with you. You will get nowhere with that. That would be putting her back to taking care of you (in a similar manner she had to with her father). She already had to take care of one parent, let's not make her have to take care of another. Okay?

Bless you for moving forward with this and let us know how it goes!

It's a great start, Noney,...SM - Old Anon

Gave All To The Kids - Now Lonely - Need Advice About LiveJul 09, 2014
Hi all - While I feel like I did the right thing by not getting in any serious relationships whlie my kids were younger, now that they are busy teenagers (and with their dad part of the time), I am alone a lot.  I know I am whining, but since I am not married and my kids are gone a lot, I am finding myself spending too much time alone.  I have friends, but of course they have lives of their own.  My son is 17 and hates for me to have company over.  He is a good kid, never get ...

Let's Talk Candles...Advice WantedSep 20, 2013
I need to buy some candles, wax warmers, etc., for my office and was just wondering about something. Is there really any difference between the brand-name candles (Scentsy, Yankee, Gold Canyon) versus the common varieties, such as Better Home and Gardens, Glade, etc., that can be purchased in a regular store? I know very high-end candles, such as Diptyque, as the very, very best, but can no longer afford such luxuries on my earnings. I'm hearing mixed reviews and just curious as to ...

Good Advice From My MomAug 17, 2012
I can always remember my mother telling me "If you want to get your mind off of your own troubles, do something good for someone else."   She has been gone now for almost three years. This week I decided to go to Wal-Mart and stock up on things for our local animal shelter.  Every month I say I need to do it, and every month the money goes for something else.  (I do, however, have a deduction every month from my checking account for the A.S.P.C.A.) Wednesday I drove to our ...

In Need Of Some Good Advice And Support Please (sm)Jan 01, 2011
I have two grandchildren who are my life.  I have kept them at home since birth, they spend a lot of time with myself and my husband, spending nights during the week and weekends, taking them on trips with us, just loving every second with them.  My son-in-law has now decided to join the military and they will be moving to goodness knows where.  I am completely heartbroken, all I do is cry.  Now when they are here we make the absolute most out of every second but when I look ...

You Can Get A Lot Of Good Advice From NOLO Law.Mar 21, 2016
much of which can be downloaded (or at least read) for free.  Their books on landlord/tenant law are worth buying... might try Amazon, or eBay to maybe find used.  They might have them at the local library, too.The poster that said you should consult an attorney gave you good advice.  Although bad landlords get away with a heck of a lot these days, bad tenants have even more rights.  I manage the apartment complex where I live for reduced rent, and have learned a LOT from our ...

Good Advice From Charlie Daniels. It's Time To Cowboy Up.Nov 18, 2016
the MSM and DNC is going to hit you with everything they've got. I have never seen a party so divided win anything, much less the White House, while retaining both houses of Congress and a preponderance of the state houses. Many of you don't deserve this win. Some of you so disliked the party’s presidential candidate that you threatened – and perhaps really did – vote for the opposition. Others chose to remain silent and distanced yourself predicting there would be a cata ...

I Gave Up Going To ChurchMay 31, 2013
I used to be an avid church-goer. Catholic, back when you went into a confessional to confess what you felt was a sin. Then one day, the priest (in all his glory) during a mass said, "I forgive you all for whatever you have done." That really got my goat. You didn't even have to feel bad about whatever it was you did, you were just now automatically forgiven, in one big swoop. I knew people in that church that were horrible to their children and spouses. So, I just knew that they went to c ...

Then the other couple of not so considerate siblings start... " ...

I'm Surprised Bill Gave A Speech At AllSep 05, 2012
actually.  I know Bill is a popular democratic president and all but I would have thought he would have avoided that kind of thing especially if Hillary decides to run in '16.  If Obama gets re-elected and things don't improve or, God forbid, get worse, that isn't gonna help Hillary much when she runs next.    I'm curious on something else as well.  Is there anyone on this board who voted for Obama but actually wanted Hillary?  ...

At 10 Years Old I Told My Mom I Wanted To Be A BoyNov 07, 2016
I must have scared my mom when I told her I wanted to be a boy. Transgender issues were the furthest thing from my mind.  I knew I could never be president because I was a girl.  I heard this at school.  My teachers always gave the boys the most attention in class and I knew that the same opportunities were not open to me.  I even had to argue with my dad that I should go to college--there was no question in my mind that I deserved to go to college.  I saw the only thing ...
