I can always remember my mother telling me "If you want to get your mind off of your own troubles, do something good for someone else." She has been gone now for almost three years.
This week I decided to go to Wal-Mart and stock up on things for our local animal shelter. Every month I say I need to do it, and every month the money goes for something else. (I do, however, have a deduction every month from my checking account for the A.S.P.C.A.)
Wednesday I drove to our local shelter, and two young volunteers went to my car with me to help unload the car. Our shelter has a "wish list" posted on line, so I bought items from that list that I knew were needed. They currently have 147 dogs, and over 400 cats needing homes.
I can't do as much every month, but I intend to do something on a regular basis. It gave me the most wonderful feeling, and it's been a long time since I felt that good. Life isn't just about me. Just needed to share that to remember her.
Thanks, mom.
