My 12 year old son just asked me if he could sleep over at a friend's house tonight at a boy's house, with 4 other kids. I asked him who the kids were.... three of them (including my son) would be boys, and two girls! I said no. He is very upset and says it is no big deal. Would you have let your child go?
;Whether you actually know or hear about it or not, this situation will present to him again, and another time he might not tell you there will be girls there. Don't think ... oh that won't happen with my kid, he doesn't lie. Teenagers find ways around parents' rules, and a classic is "The Omission".
Just keep that in mind. This co-ed sleepover trend is all over the place and does not look like it is going away anytime soon. I first heard about it when my 14 y/o niece wanted to do it - that was 12 years ago.
For the record: I am a no-way-no-how on this also.
