Lie of the Year 2011: 'Republicans voted to end Medicare' http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2011/dec/20/lie-year-democrats-claims-republicans-voted-end-me/;

according to Politifact - Dara

Politifact is a known left-leaning publication. How about that?!

Thank you for finally coming up with some facts...sm - JTBB

[ In Reply To ..]
And no, Dara, Politifact has never been left-leaning. It has always been neutral.

I still don't like the idea of privitizing, and it does state that folks will be paying more in the future for the same services. If that would apply with outside competition, I don't know as of yet. If it would turn out like Medicare D, then it would be a nightmare. I need to do more research on the subject and go over the Ryan plan. We also don't know at this point if Romney would actually adopt Ryan's plan or if would be a combo of the two or what. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I heard they had to throw cons a bone - after

[ In Reply To ..]
they threw so many fits over 2010's honoree, government takeover of health care, and their first-year award in 2009 that went to Palin for her death panels bah-loney.

Last year's determination was such a stretch, many believe the 2011 Lie of the Year should have gone to Politifact, since it essentially boiled down to what article after article after article has said was an incorrect sematic interpretation of ONE WORD. Politifact admits it got buried under "an avalanche of criticism."

I'm sure you picked up on this since the con blogs are trying to assemble their artillary in preparation to mount their defense of Ryan's plan to gut the immensely popular program. His proposed budget cuts on which the Ryan/Romney ticket will be campaigning will undoubtedly become a realtime testament to precisely why so many people did not buy into Politifact's pander to the wingers.

sigh....sm - JTBB

And I wanted to take it down piece by piece...lololol...party pooper :D

Sorry about that. - sm

Hope I saved you valuable time chasing another ingoratio elenchi. I think you'd have a lot more fun reviewing the bounty of articles attacking PF's 2011 faux pas. I found those articles very helpful in bolstering the case for the very same claim the 2011 LOTY tried to construe as a falsehood. Party on, JTBB, in celebration of the VEEP pick that seems to have left cons on this board so unimpressed they had to revert to pitching endless rounds of how-low-can-you-go gang warfare against the prez (as opposed to jubilation over their own ticket) within 24 hours of the announcement. Meanwhile dems are making margarita toasts and dancing the macarena.

"surprise" when the Republicans, using Ryan's budget as a guide, ended Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and SSI. Taxes also increase on the poor/middle class so someone can pay for a tax cut for the richest 2% in the country.

Voting for Obama and hope he wins again.

"Fact of the Year" is so delusional - Still can't do the math on what Obozo

[ In Reply To ..]
has cost the middle class...that's the problem using Obamanomics. Makes about as much sense as Obama himself. For the math impaired, Obam would rank as a -700 trillion on on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the best. Can you figure that out? No...well, your local community college offers math and economics classes. If you're in the 47% takers (strong possibility) you get the classes for free. Just sayin'

47% are "takers". The statistics show that approximately 47% of the US population pay no taxes. Included in that 47% are all Americans under the age of 16, senior citizens whose incomes are not high enough to pay taxes, the working poor, and tax cheats in general, as well as the "welfare moms" and slackards.
YOU NEED to rid yourself of the delusion - YOU HAVE ALL THE FACTS

As usual, quick to tell other posters what they can think, say, post. If you don't like it, you start with the namecalling.

Get your facts straight, then come back with a coherent, logical thought if that is not too difficult...K

Lysol Takes The Award This Year. Nov 20, 2010
Lysol gets the award for dumbest ad of the year.  They are advertising their dispenser that keeps germs from getting on your hands when you are washing them by automatically dispensing soap when it is activated by hand motion or whatever device they have implanted in the dispenser.  What they are really saying is that their "soap" is not strong enough to kill those germs that are on someone's hands before they wash them.   Make this item money waster #1 on your list.&nbs ...

2-year-old Kentucky Girl Accidentally Killed By Her 5-year-old Brother May 01, 2013
"A 2-year-old Kentucky girl was accidentally killed by her 5-year-old brother who fired a rifle he had been given as a gift, officials said Wednesday." Parents can be arrested for not reporting a missing child. It's not even legal to let your child drive a car without a permit. Yet, this sad, sad story is unfortunately way too common. We MUST start holding adults accountable for guns in the home. ...

New Year's EveJan 01, 2011
Another year has come and gone.  We ended up going to the movies to see the Little Fockers.  It was pretty funny.  We went to the grocery store beforehand to pick up some snacks for today and then grabbed dinner at a fast food place the kids picked. Overall, it was a pretty good evening.  I went to bed about 11:30 (I tried but could not stay awake), but the kids stayed up till a little after 12 with DH.  After that, they went off to bed.  I'm actually looking ...

It's A New Year And I Just Want To Cry...Jan 01, 2015
I'm the parent of a toddler, no other kids.  I'm 42 and she just turned 3.  My husband is at home too, but he is disabled from physical issues as well as mental ones.  I was a stay-at-home transcriptionist way before I became a mother and I am overwhelmed with it all.  My husband is there for us maybe 50% of the time, which just isn't cutting it.  He is my only source of support, as we have no family, no friends (thank you isolating career move), and we ju ...

12 Year Old Boys - Anyone Have Or Had One? SmNov 03, 2009
I have a 12 year old son in the 7th grade.  Yesterday he cried and almost missed his school bus because he was not happy with his hair and said there was no possible way he could go to school with his hair like that.  It looked the same as it always does.  I had to make him leave and go get on the bus and I felt awful having him leave upset.  This morning, it is about 40 degrees outside here, and he did not want to wear a jacket of any sort.  He has about 10 hoodies tha ...

New Year's Traditions? Dec 26, 2013
Anyone have any specific traditions they do New Year's Eve or NY Day? Both of those days vary for us as we've gotten older. NY Eve we USED to do it up big, get all duded up, go to a banquet hall, dance, ring in the New Year with Champagne, leave after midnight. These days, we just go out for a quiet dinner with friends, or do a little thing at someone's house. Staying up until after midnight is optional for us these days, but we've been doing pretty good ringing it in. ...

How Is It Possible That A 76-year-old WomanFeb 13, 2014
Yeah, it's my mother. Maybe that says it all. She has told me she wishes she could change how she and my father parented my brothers and me when we were growing up. In the 60s and 70s nobody really thought about how to parent. They just did it, good and bad, so I'm dealing with the fallout of their choices just like every other person alive.  I think we've had the normal ups and downs, although my mother has been and continues to be a very critical, judgmental person, not jus ...

Ahh, Retirement In One YearMar 11, 2016
Okay, so I got out of MT 3 years ago (for obvious reasons), took a nice little part time job answering telephones for a mom & pop business. I plan on retiring completely in one year, and am trying to get ideas on what you plan on doing (or are doing) in retirement. Or, heck, even if you have many years ahead of you in terms of needing to work-work, I'm open to ideas. I am thinking of volunteer work. I do know that I don't want to sit around and watch movies all day. I'm th ...

Don't they have thoughts of their own? Can't they think for themselves? It certainly doesn't look that way. I'm surprised the women are being bamboozled so badly.
