I WISH EVERYONE HERE A VERY HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!

Posted: Dec 31, 2009

See ya next year....and hopefully it will be better all the way around.

I splurged even though I shouldn't have, but those 1 pound giant lobsters looked too good to let anyone else have them.  Now I'm going to enjoy.

;

Thanks BT and to everyone too a Happy New Year - just me/hmmm

Enjoy your lobsters - that sounds good. I don't have anything special like that. Just munchie junk food tonight. Anything I don't have to cook and I'm fine.

I wish everyone on this board no matter what differences we share in politics and issues a very happy new year. And like Backwards Typist said - prosperous. I hope everyone's wishes for this next year come true.

I hope our government will turn around and improve the lives of all citizens of this country, and if anyone is doing something to contradict that I hope they receive the full consequences they deserve.

I hope this next year the board will become a little more "anonymous friendly", but then again it's a political board. Need I say more. LOL :-)

Just wishing everyone a happy and healthy holiday.

Same to you! And I am jealous of those lobsters! - Colleen

Thanks for giving me a laugh after I read a reply in the main board of someone calling me a jerk and to do everyone a favor and stay off the board.

This made me smile. I thought Colleen is jealous of a lobster??? HA HA HA (I knew what you meant, just had to give you a hard time).

Wishing you and your family a happy New Year Colleen (and everyone else I debate).
And also to you! Hopefully, this year will be one that - Colleen

to make a difference. I am going on a Caribbean cruise in January, stopping at the island of Dominica where I have been before. It is a very beautiful but poor island and the school children are in dire need of school supplies. I am in the process of gathering school supplies to bring with me, toothpaste and toothbrushes too. It is such a good feeling to help someone less fortunate.

I think that is AWESOME! - Colleen

I will find ways to follow your lead. That is an EXCELLENT resolution! And for my own resolution, I am going to make a point that I try to do something for anyone who truly needs it, regardless of race, country, sexual orientation, relgion, etc, in whatever way I can, even if it is just to get an old blanket out for the homeless guy under the bridge.

What a wonderful heart! (sm) - Nikki

I don't know of anyone who would do what you're doing! You are absolutely inspiring. I have done itty-bitty things (like invite two neighbors without family to my home for Thanksgiving and to give food and coffee to another neighbor who is worse off than I am), and that's nothing compared to what you're doing, but I can attest to the great feeling it gives to try to help someone who needs it. I hope you have a safe and happy journey.

(I hope they allow you to take the toothpaste on the plane!)

No praise needed. I am taking a vacation. I am just happy to know...sm - oldtimer

that my small offering will be appreciated. If anyone wants to read about a real inspiration, here is Chris Lawrence's website. She is a retired English school teacher who lives in Dominica and volunteers her time to help the schools there.

kids kept coming up to them and begging for what they thought was peso's, until the tour guide told them they were saying pencils! They just wanted pencils for school! Makes me want to cry. Oldtimer, you should feel extra proud of yourself for this act of kindness.

I went to Dominica some years back and - L

before arriving asked husband who was already there to find a place with a pool. When we landed and went through the town I was thinking I hope I have a roof! Extremely poor place and much begging goes on with the children there. One evening family including my child of about 8 or so was out at a restaurant, approached by many kids begging and my child wanted to know where were their parents. She knew it was dark and here all the children seemingly alone. With a few baseball caps and tennis shoes I think you could about swap for anything there. The need for soap is great also.

Goes to show how spoiled we as Americans can be - Colleen

So much that we take for granted, food, water, school supplies, clothing, soap-there are so many out there suffering so much more. If I can ever afford to take a trip, maybe that would be a great way to get rid of kids outgrown clothes; hand them out there.

There can be consequences, some of which may not be what you expect. After visiting the same resort in Jamaica yearly for over 20 years with a group of 12 couples, we saw some of it. The place had a very consistent staff, and we got to know some of them. One year we all left books, shoes and some clothing for our housekeepers and their children. Next year we went back and they didn't work there anymore. Turns out the management thought they had stolen those items for guest rooms. Can you imagine how awful we felt? Poverty is so great, though, and theft so common that if anyone who had anything new or of high quality it was assumed to be stolen goods. Now when we leave something behind we always let the management know that we are leaving something for the staff and provide a detailed listing. Every time I think about this I feel so horrible about the unintended consequences of our actions. While trying to help, we certainly did more harm.
That is a great thing to know! Thanks! - Colleen

wherever you want to help. Chris Lawrence knows the head of the Rotary in Dominica who is also the port customs agent. We deliver the donations through him to Chris. Also, the danger of handing out donations to beggars is that they most often sell them and the people most in need don't get them. We also have an address where we can mail donations to the customs agent and tag it donations for Chris Lawrence's school children. As you can tell, I am really excited about this.

I’m talking about an economic depression in the blue states that went for Hillary. Here is an amazing statistic. 2-year-old Kentucky Girl Accidentally Killed By Her 5-year-old Brother May 01, 2013
"A 2-year-old Kentucky girl was accidentally killed by her 5-year-old brother who fired a rifle he had been given as a gift, officials said Wednesday." Parents can be arrested for not reporting a missing child. It's not even legal to let your child drive a car without a permit. Yet, this sad, sad story is unfortunately way too common. We MUST start holding adults accountable for guns in the home. ...

HAPPY DAY!Mar 27, 2011
I love to cook!  Always have.  Since I was young I have collected family recipes, changed them around (or not) and have honed my skills to the point where I have earned the title of "family cook".  I can do it all!  I even make homemade cakes and decorate them for family gatherings.  I have index cards, ringed binders and tons and tons of recipes on random pieces of paper put away in boxes. A couple of Christmases ago I decided that since times are tough and gifts for o ...

I Was So Happy To See This!Apr 21, 2011
This story is one illustrates why government-controlled health care can be a dangerous thing.  The doctors and the government took choice away from these parents and basically said "sorry, your child is just going to die, no tracheotomy for him."  Religious organization from the US stepped in, brought him down here, US docs did the trach, and now he can spent his last days comfortably at home with his parents. One can only hope that never happens here. ...

Anyone Happy?Aug 03, 2010
I am still in school, and it seems like everyone on the boards is miserable and there's no future for MT.  Not very much to keep anyone motivated in school.  I still have about 6-9 months left.  Is anyone happy, or at least content in their job?  I am a future WAHM, mother of two sons, ages 7 and 2.  I used to work in social services, and thought I'd do this for a while.  Please give me some hope! ...

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone. (sm)Nov 26, 2009
I know we often disagree on this board, but I hope that everyone -- liberal, conservative or in between -- has a wonderful, safe and happy Thanksgiving. If you're spending it with your relatives (as you might do every year and sometimes dread doing so), try to look at them in a new light and be grateful you still have your family. If you have no family, cook a meal and invite a neighbor or someone who also has no family to share your meal with you. It might wind up being your best Tha ...

From Rasmussen... In Nebraska, just 17% approve of the Medicaid deal cut by Senator Ben Nelson to secure his vote on health care reform. That’s a big change from the seven-point lead enjoyed by Democrats when President Obama was inaugurated. Coincidentally, Obama's approval rating has sunk to -16.   One can only hope th ...

I drug myself out of bed this morning feeling tired and mad at the world.  Nothing new!  I'm not really a morning person.  I took a shower, felt better.  I opened up the sliding glass door in my bed room and WHOOSH!  A gust of fresh air blew in!  It was cool and smelled green and fresh from the rain last night.  I opened up the other windows and doors throughout the house and the breeze and scent swirling around my house lifted my spirits.  I had a fe ...

Are You Happy With Your Weight?Apr 18, 2013
Just wondering if any woman is ever truly "happy" with her body?  I have always had weight struggles and had gotten very heavy and I lost it all about five years ago.  I was happy, at first, but then it went away.  I am not underweight and am actually at the high end of "normal" weight, but I just cannot be happy about how I look.  I decided I needed to lose 10 more pounds for this summer and worked hard and lost it, but I still look in the mirror and I think I see myself a l ...
