CBO predicts recession for next year? Did we

Posted: Aug 23, 2012

Obama has sunken us deeper.  But that is what he wants.  He wants us to be like a third world country.  He says the majority of people in third world countries are worse off than the poor in this country.  He wants "equality for all".  Damn Communist.

Why must you deflect? Can you just admit Obama is a failure? - Why is it so hard? (sm)

Are y'all embarrassed because you thought he was going to be so great? He was only a community organizer. He voted "present" many times as a State senator. He had no experience running anything. We don't even know how his grades were in school. That was kept hidden. Y'all voted for him anyway. Was it because you wanted to help make history electing a biracial president? To "make up" for your guilt over our ancestors' behavior and maybe even our own? Whatever the reasons you voted for him, you've been misled. He has not helped our country. Why can't you just admit it?
I did not think you would have answer but I though I would try anyway. - nm

our upcoming New Year's Eve plunge off the fiscal cliff. They're the ones who backed themselves into their own corner on looming tax hikes, debt reduction grandstanding and bully tactics that produced wildly unrealistic Pay-go spending cuts that will trigger this predicted recession.

There's a plan in place that extends tax cuts for all those making less than $250,000. Once enacted, the cliff disappears and goes the way of the previously predicted millennium clock hysteria. But nooooooooo. If uber babies don't get theirs, we all go down with the ship.

I hear McConnell is getting nervous about the sudden emergence of democratic backbone on this issue. Dem camp messaging tells us they are thoroughly prepared to stand their ground and let the plunge occur. McCottle has failed so far in coming up with a Plan B Hail Mary pass, since the bully tactics failed to make their mark. They thought the threat of recession would beat the dems into submission, but the tables have turned and they are now running scared from their own self-inflicted miscues.

It's possible the October surprise will be an 11th hour GOP Congressional cave-in to President Obama's thoroughly workable plan, in a desperate, last ditch-effort to paint the GOP as transparently phony, compromising white-horse chargers, who rode in to save the day, just in time for the election.

Correct, and the UE rate will reach 9% unless Congress does - oldtimer

Why is $250,000 the dividing line? What makes that significant?

It has to do with the numbers of people affected - by W-cuts phaseout.

This designation has to do with the current tax-bracket structures. It's always been the line Obama draws around the middle class. It is also affected by the small business demographic, where the majority of them fall below that group. Personally, I do not consider individuals making a quarter-million as middle class.
Thank you. - SK

So you think it was a game?? Why can't (sm) - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
people get it through their heads, the American people do not want the debt ceiling raised. They don't want any more spending!!! It was not a game by the republicans. Still isn't.
The last GOP prez to reduce debt was Eisenhower; Nixon was last one - to balance the budget.
[ In Reply To ..]
Ryan's plan would have us wait until he's 80 before any of that happens. Meanwhile the uber tax cuts become permanent. I seem to recall the American people weren't all that crazy about the credit downgrade.

I'll not be going down the word-salad parse path this morning with concrete thinkers suffering from metaphor allergies. I'm much more interested in hearing why the GOP is determined to push us all over the precipice and their explanation as to what their alleged "better offer" REALLY looks like in the light of day. So far, all I've seen is a wide pass and an impressive full-field run toward the lying-their-behinds-off end-zone.
Interesting. I didn't know that. - nm

.
Even more interesting - is how Eisenhower did that.
[ In Reply To ..]
During Eisenhower's administration, the marginal tax rate on regular income over $400,000 ranged between 91% - 92%. Maximum tax rate on long-term capital gains was 25%. This was a carry-over policy from Truman that he did not change. That's what makes this real-time GOP caterwauling over returning to Clinton's 39% max (still a low rate when put into historical perspectives) so absurd.

BTW, I picked up these two tidbits this morning from the Bill Press news show on Current TV (Gore's channel). He had an anchor sub on there, John Fuselsang, who will be getting a daytime slot on Current soon (not sure when). Loved his format. He's a gifted comedian brimming over with all kinds of useful info, entertaining as Jon Stewart but a lot more informative. His Jesus Was a Liberal segment on Biblical ProChoice passages was awesome.

Why We Are In A RecessionJun 11, 2012
We are in this recession because of the largest financial meltdown since the Depression, brought about by total lack of regulation of the financial industry.  Do you really think we can climb out of this in just a few years?  Do those of you who want to get rid of Obama want to put back the people who brought about this recession in the first place?  Unless there is some oversight of the financial industry, the same thing will happen again.  The Dems may not have been able to ...

The worst U.S. recession since the Great Depression has ended, but weak household spending as the labor market struggles to create jobs will slow the pace of the economy's recovery, according to a survey released on Monday. Is Janet Yellen Trying To Trigger A Recession ForMar 09, 2017
Trump might want to put a call in to Janet Yellen. The Fed is supposed to be a neutral, independent entity. However, that myth went out the window when Bernanke “gifted” QE 3 to Obama in 2012 to aid with the latter’s re-election bid. The Yellen Fed seems to be even more committed to defining the Fed as nothing more than a leftist establishment mechanism. Back in October when it still looked like Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 Presidential election, Yellen commented that she was c ...

New Year's Traditions? Dec 26, 2013
Anyone have any specific traditions they do New Year's Eve or NY Day? Both of those days vary for us as we've gotten older. NY Eve we USED to do it up big, get all duded up, go to a banquet hall, dance, ring in the New Year with Champagne, leave after midnight. These days, we just go out for a quiet dinner with friends, or do a little thing at someone's house. Staying up until after midnight is optional for us these days, but we've been doing pretty good ringing it in. ...
