Baby Einstein giving refunds/school kids

I just thought that was interesting and wanted to share. I found this story in my email inbox. Apparently, Baby Einstein does not make your baby smart and is just a way to keep them entertained or as stated in the article from Yahoo...

"According to the article, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under two years old stay away from watching screens. In the letter threatening Disney with a class-action lawsuit for "deceptive advertising," public health lawyers hired by Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood cited a study which found a link between early television exposure and later problems with attention span."

I bought one of these videos when back in 2004 when my Dixie was 3 months and I thought it was the most boring, uneducated thing out there... but it was for babies so I thought that even though I didn't get it maybe she did. I didn't buy anymore than just that one though. I suppose that is a good thing because they are now giving refunds! Now about that one product "My Baby Can Read" I wonder if that is a scam too? I think this falls under the category that if it is too good to be true than it probably is. If you can teach a baby to read then I suppose that the government or school system would use this to their full advantage.

My daughter in kindergarten is learning how to READ!!! I didn't learn how to read until I was in 1st-2nd grade. She knows how to write all her letters and numbers! So I figure they are trying to push kids to learn at a more early age then before. It won't be long before preschool becomes mandatory. Right now in Georgia they have a lottery system that you sign up and if your name gets pulled out of a hat you get to go! That is literally how they did it at my daughter's school. They put all signed up names in a hat and drew 60 names and the rest went on the waiting list. Now I don't see how children can go into kindergarten without having preschool because they just need to know so much before they even get there!!!! Thanks for reading!

My daughter wouldn't stop screaming and fussing -- EVER. So out of desperation I bought Baby Mozart and Baby Bach on the recommendation of an acquaintance. Immediately she stopped crying and fussing and was riveted to the TV. I was in complete and utter shock and I very cautiously went about attempting to do a load of laundry, wash the dishes, prepare dinner, etcetera. For the duration of the video she was captivated by the music and images. I was so happy I went out and bought nearly all the BE DVDs and would play them for her while I tried to sneak in an hour of work here and there. I bought a portable DVD player and brought it in the car and on vacations and to restaurants (using headphones of course). Then I just bought the music CDs so she could listen to the music. She loved it! To this day (she is now 7) she can tell me which composer wrote which piece and she loves to play her violin, piano, and sing. I don't know if it actually had an effect on her IQ or not, and frankly I don't care. She is happy, healthy, the teachers tell me she's gifted, she has no real interest in television other than a few minutes to wake up in the morning, and believe it or not she shows no early characteristic tell-tale signs of growing up to be a serial killer. So, I think people need to just chill out and do whatever works for them. There may be no scientific data to prove that it enhances intelligence but it certainly doesn't HARM them. I'd rather she listen to classical music and watch toys and learn colors than watch Spongebob or Hannah Montana or any of those other ridiculously obnoxious stupid kids shows out there that teach kids to be sarcastic and rude and talk back to their parents and teachers.
